01/04/05 4 Day Magic Roll Call

Did I see that you can make Palo reservations now? I'm interested in brunch and a dinner but thought I had to make them on the ship. Gail, is there still room in your Palo's private party? Last I saw, you were full. I'd like to do both since this is our first and may be our last cruise for a very long time. Airfare is the killer for us! Has anyone heard any more about a third ship- ported in LA (possibly)? Is the Palo's brunch only on our at sea day?
I think we are going to make a quick trip into Nassua since we don't have the funds to do Atlantis or much else. But we need to just experience it for an hour or two. Maybe a quick trip through the straw market, tool around a bit then back on the ship?

So many questions, so little time for this newbie!

Hi there. Yes, I have two spots open as two people have decided to decline. The two spots are yours. Please pm or e mail me to confirm. I will need your first and last names and room #. I just sent you a pm.

The brunch is on the day we have at sea. I think the earliest time is 10:30am for the brunch. The brunch is only offered once for the 4 night cruise. That is the time that myself and DH are going to try to get. We are also going to do both. I am not sure when we will get to do the DC again. We want to try to get it all in and also have some relaxing time as well.

Has anyone heard anything about the stingray city and blue lagoon combo tour in nassau?
Also, at castaway cay we were thinking about doing the seahorse snorkel adventure. I have done a lot of reading and am totally confused. We don't want to do a lot nassau and want to be back on the ship for dinner. DH wants to do the straw market but I keep telling him I've not heard anything good about that place.
Any comments on that?

Got my happy pills last week so I can get on the plane and get to the ship. I DON"T fly and am having issues with it so the Doctor gave me some nice little pills to take before we get on the plane, and it should be worn off by the time we get to the Raddison. Is anyone else staying there the night before the cruise?

Everyone have a great day!

We went to the straw market last January.

I was totally unimpressed. I just wanted to get out of there.

There were just aisles and aisles of the same merchandise with different pushy sales people "attacking" you as you walked past.

I did not find it a pleasant experience at all.

Now that is just me, someone else may have loved the place. I would not go there again.

Dorenda, I've seen posts where people love going into downtown Nassau and other people have not liked it at all. Maybe it depends on your personality and where you live. I'm in a big city, so I'm used to people trying to get my attention and sell me things. Nassau can be fairly intimidating though. To get off the ship and wander through the tourist building is not bad. It's kind of like an indoor craft fair. It's once you go through and into the downtown area that you'll be asked for hair braiding, tours, taxi rides, etc. I just kind of give the royal wave and pass on by. If you're fine with that, I say go and explore. Make a point to stop by the shopping lecture on the cruise. You'll get coupons for discounts and free items. Have an adventure, get your free stuff and have your shopping card punched. The flip side is that the ship is a nice place to be when everyone else is off sightseeing. We split up into 3 groups for Nassau. My DH and DD did the Catamaran Sail & Snorkle then visited Atlantis with $20 for a drink and the slot machines. They had a blast. My DS went with my cousin and her boys on the shopping card adventure. She is a real hot ticket and was able to negotiate a horse drawn carriage ride, if the driver could guarantee that he'd find all the shops on her card. They had a blast. DD8 and I did some swimming, then watched a movie in the theatre. She wanted to buy a shirt at the Del Sol store, so we got off the ship. No one bothered us really, except for the occasional hair braiders. We went to that one store, bought her t-shirt and she was done. I think it had more to do with the price of the shirt than anything else. Picture an 8 year old telling the store clerk that she thought her merchandise was way overpriced :teeth: . We were back on the ship within an hour and having lunch at Topsiders. We had a blast.

I'd say it's worth seeing once. If you don't like it, you head back to the ship where there's plenty to do.

Oh, I definitely agree with Tammi.

If you have never been to Nassau before you should get off the ship. It is important to see what the culture is like and how the people act etc. You should get off at least for a walk around the main street.

If you stay only an hour then that is fine. But at least you have experienced Nassau.

Everyone should experience it at least once. After that you can make up your own mind about whether it was worth it or not.

I've been outvoted at home anyway. The boys want to see the market. We work in Chicago so we are used to pushy people so we should be fine. I figure and hour or so won't hurt. We are also going to do the stingray city & blue lagoon tour. Where do I make reservations for these trips?

It's raining here again for the 3rd day in a row and very depressing. I have been online the last 3 days looking at trip reports and photos and that has helped. I showed DS10 the ship photos last night. He was so amazed at how big it is. He is getting really excited.

Everyone have a good day.:hyper:

Good Morning everyone. Happy Friday to all.

Bumping up so we do not fall to far behind.

Have a great day everyone. Gail

The Palo Dinner is confirmed-BUT we have a family of three that would perfer to decline at this time. They have been kind enough to pay for their seats if they still do not want their seats once we are on board. They would give up the three seats if someone else is intrested. So the bottom line is we still have the private room confirmed. It will all be charged to our stateroom and everyone can reimburse me for their seats the night of the dinner-No shows or cancellations can drop off the $ at our cabin 8024. We are looking forward to meeting everyone.

What is everyone doing for Thanksgiving????????????

We are going upstate, NY to Rocking Horse Ranch for two nights with the children. It is about 2.5 hours from our home. Our families on both sides are ALL away and we wanted to do something fun since our families are not around. We are leaving Wednesday after school and will be home Friday late afternoon.

Have a great day everyone. Gail:earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsgirl: :earsboy:

The three of us will be staying home and watching the Thanksgiving Parade from Philadelphia in the morning, while starting to put up our Christmas decorations. We are planning to go and see "Christmas With the Kranks" in the afternoon.

:wave2: Since we had Thanksgiving in October, no plans for us.

I do have a very busy week ahead though with lots of extra things going on besides the normal running around.

Have a good week everyone. The clock is ticking even faster isn't it????????

DD19 is on her way home for Thanksgiving break. She's taking the train this time, so we'll see her in the morning. Anyway, after cleaning her room and getting ready for the invasion of laundry, I had some time to look through my Passporter and online Navigators. I'm trying to plan out our days. So far, I have it looking something like this:

*Monday night, arrive in Orlando staying at the Hyatt

*Tuesday, DCL transfer to the ship
***meet my fellow DIS'ers from 5-6pm
***25 minute Chakra Capsule for DH at 6:30 (first timer)
***Hair salon appointment for me at 6:30 (wash & style)
***Dinner at Palo's 7:30

*Wednesday, Nassau
***Spa facial for me at 11am, Chakra Capsule for DH if he liked it, if not then the Rainforest for him
***Visit Atlantis in the afternoon for slots and a drink

*Thursday, Castaway Cay
***Personal Watercraft eco-tour (me riding w/DH)
***Spa time in the late afternoon

*Friday, Sea Day
***Palo's Brunch 10:30am
***Wine Tasting 3-4pm

First question, do you think that they'll follow the normal 4 night schedule for activities, even though this is a special cruise? Second question, will it be too cold for the wave runner eco tour on Castaway Cay. Maybe if we book the last one of the day (2:45pm) and then go right back to the ship afterwards?

It's getting so close, I love it.
