!0 year old nephew got earring

I love an earring on little boys! It looks so cute! Matt was asking for an earring from the time he was 2...at 4 he got his first hole (as soon as he finished with chemo and the Dr said it was safe to get) and around 7 he had a second one done (again after a relapse and another round of chemo) in the same ear as the first. When he actually had hair as soon as it grew in from falling out around 3 he wanted it long and it was long until it fell out and then he grew it long again and when he joined the junior fire fighters and had to cut it. He loved it and didn't care what anyone said to him about his hair or earrings (which most of the boys in school thought was so cool he had an earring!)

No big deal. If he keeps it fine, and being a 10 year old boy, once he changes his mind it will grow over quickly.

JMO, but on a boy that young I feel it looks cheap and classless, reflecting on the parents. My DSs are 8 & 5 and no way would I allow it right now. I would have no problem with a girl of any age having one, but I definitely feel differently about boys.

Its not really a big deal to me either. Neither of my teens have any piercings but if they wanted one it wouldnt be a problem for me. Though they have done various things with their hair such as bleaching or dying a different color. To me, all of that is just the small stuff and there is no need to stress out over it.

::yes::

There was a parent that "allowed" their 1st grader to do this locally and made the News when the school said he could not wear it to school. The parents fought it with the school board. Give me a break. :sad2:

Does he have a mullet too?

I am not being funny--Really. Most young boys that get their ear pierced around here, well, they sport a mullet as well. Poor buggers.

Ear piercings for boys is a very 80's thing. Now, if he had asked to have his nose/eyebrow/tongue........

But, I think you are smart for not saying anything. Better to MYOB.

What's a mullet? And I agree that getting a young boy something just because the teens are doing it is setting the wrong precedent.

ITA. Couldn't have said it better myself.

I wouldn't be pleased. After DD had an ear piercing go bad (Really bad) I would not allow my kids to get any piercings until they were grown and on their own. I know lots of kids do with no negative effects, but I just envision all the heartache and pain we went through and don't wish it on any youngster. We even had it done at a reputable place, sometimes bad things happen.

10!! Yikes...I think it's ridiculous...but then again it's ok to say...if he wants it then by all means get it done....(I am using sarcasim here)

Holycow

I am with you. If he has to have an earring at 10, what will he want at 14? A whole body tatoo??

Ok, a mullet is the WT hair cut that's short on the top, long in the back (or "business in the front, party in the back")

Here's a prime example of a mullet:

:sad2: Holy cow! I'm a 28 year old girl who wasn't allowed to get her ears pierced until 12!!! WOW! A 10 year old boy?! Wish my mom had been that "cool." :teeth: But on the flip side, I gotta admit, it's not my taste... I thought guys with pierced ears were cool in the 90s, but I kind of thought the fad stayed in the 90s. :earboy2: Guess not. Who knew! I must live under a rock. :teeth:

Other names for mullets:

Sho-lo (short-long)
Ape Drape
Canadian Passport
Tennessee Tophat
Kentucky Waterfall
Arkansas Neck-warmer
Missouri Compromise
Hockey Hair
Beaver Pelt
Mud Flap
2-in-1 (2 haircuts in one)
10/90 (proportion of hair on top & back)

and my favorite...

LMAO!!!

Blech....I HATED those haircuts in high school and still do. I always want to walk up behind them and cut away!! :earboy2: Sort of the same thing as a rat tail, remember those? ICK! And I can't picture either haircut without an earring in.

If my 8 year old asked for an earring, he'd be told he has to wait until he's 18 to get one! I don't think it's a bad thing for a man to have an earring, just think it's not the wisest decision to allow a child to get one.

In my store, I end up seeing lots of pre teen males, and several have earrings. One little guy came in, no more than 4 and had two earrings in each ear and a serious rat tail going down the back of his head. I had to bite my tongue, because I really wanted to ask the mom "what were you thinking?"

i begged and BEGGED to get my ears pierced and my parents let me when i was 8...and in high school took them out and let them close back up. maybe he will grow out of it too. of course the holes never COMPLETELY closed up, and if i could do it all over again....i wouldn't. :guilty:

When my sons were that age they wanted one in the worst way. I told them they could get one when they were 15. They are 17 and don't have one. Think they're stupid. It's just one example of how it's good sometimes to make kids wait a bit. I wouldn't care if they got one now, just not at 10.

You just brought back BAD memories of Junior High :scared1:

My reason for saying no is that if they did this at ten what would they want at 13. I always think there should be a little something that your kids want that you say no, not now.

I think any jewelry on a man (or boy) is tacky--except a watch or wedding ring.
