~ºoº November 27, 2010- Western Magic! ºoº~

Add my voice to the chorus of appreciation for all your hard work! I am in awe...I can't seem to get spreadsheets to work for me! I am in awe! :worship:

Thanks for all your hard work, Darcy!

Wow - I haven’t checked in since Monday and I have 4 pages to catch up on! :goodvibes

Welcome Michael!!! :welcome:You and your family will love the cruise.

Getting to go to a wine tasting event for work. I’d rather stay home and just hang out, but I guess I could force myself to drink a couple glasses of wine since I’m going out anyway :rotfl2:

All for now,
Gailyn

Clearly, some of you are WAAAAY more organized (and in the know) than I. :worship:

Was wondering what is the dress code for each night? Can someone tell me what are the nights? Meaning, I know there's a pirate night, a formal night, a semi formal night, a prince/princess night, a Golden Mickey's night. What other nights are there? And, what exactly is the proper attire for each of these nights? I don't want my DS to feel left out if all the other kids are dressing up. :confused3

We're still contemplating on what to wear for formal nights. May have to dust off some very tight-fitting gowns (which weren't so tight when they were originally purchased). :rotfl2:

Thanks!

There are 4 "cruise casual" nights, 1 formal (was the Golden Mickey's and I believe is now the Prince and Princess since the Golden Mickey show was replaced by the Villians Tonight show) 1 semi-formal, and of course, PIRATES NIGHT!!! I believe the order on the Western is:

Casual
Casual
Formal
Casual
Pirate
Semi-formal
Casual

As to what proper attire is, it runs the gamut, casual, a pair of khakis and a polo shirt is common, on semi-formal it runs from that to a full suit, though not many, mostly slacks and a button-down shirt. Formal can run the same, but you might see a few boys in tuxes, but mostly slacks and button-down shirt and tie. I think if your son has a suit and will wear it he will fit in, but I certainly would not go out and buy a suit for the trip if he doesn't have anywhere else to wear it!
Pirate night, some kids (and not a few adults) go all out in pirate gear, others have a hat and sword, and they give everyone bandannas at dinner! So there is no NORM, per se, it's what does he want to wear (and what do you want to buy! ;) )

VA Nana Tink - I have the same info, just added a bit more about the menu changes based on the Passporter (don't hold me accountable if it's wrong!). :goodvibes

Casual (Departure)
Casual (Key West)
Formal - Prince & Princess Menu (Sea Day)
Casual (Grand Cayman)
Pirate (Cozumel)
Semi-formal - Captain's Gala (Sea Day)
Casual (Castaway Cay)

As for the dress 'code', Annabel - you will see everything. From tuxes and long gowns on formal night, to people who aren't quite as formal on the same night. The only enforced dress code is at Palo where you will be turned away to change if you are in jeans (and potentially shorts - that one seems to vary from other threads).

We aren't going full formal here. I have no long gowns and am not going to purchase one either. I will wear a long-ish black dress, DD has a sparkly purple dress already, and DS and DH will wear pants, shirt, tie. Don't know that we will be packing a jacket for DH and I'm not buying one for DS that he will never wear again.

For the other nights, I'm sure DD will be wearing dresses all nights (she loves to dress up) or dressy capris. I will be in capris all other nights. My suggestion is to bring pants/capris/skirts that you can mix & match with multiple tops. You aren't in your dinner clothes for that long, so that can help save suitcase space.

Hope that helps...it's a beautiful weekend here in CT. Sunny (finally) with a light breeze. Should be good for flag football and softball though! And tonight we are heading to the Wolfpack (American Hockey League team) game for opening night. Not sure where I'll fit in changing over the clothes...that may be what doesn't get done off my list!

Have a great weekend everyone.

Even Palo is all over the map sometimes. Last year, we encountered a couple in Jeans -- the husband had on one of those sweaters with patches on the elbows. I don't go all out anymore (I own a tux but it's a pain to travel with it) so even at Palo I just wear a dress shirt, khakis and a jacket - no tie. And sometimes I'm among the best dressed.

I'm afraid my friends & family might be getting a little tired of hearing my countdown ... but I figured you guys would completely understand!!!

7 weeks from TODAY ..... we will all be boarding The Magic!!!

That, plus the fact that we're now under 50 days ... seemed worthy of a shout-out! We started counting at 730 days, so we're all just a wee tad excited around here and doing a little happy dance! :dance3:

Can't wait to see you all having a good time on the ship!!!

:yay:

That's interesting that you have seen jeans at Palo, because there were several threads about people beging turned away to go change. Just goes to show that you can't be sure of anything with the dress code. :lmao:

Just got some dress shoes for DS for the cruise....a great bargain. Hush Puppies, paid $4.99 after my coupon and $10 rewards coupon!!!:banana:

What a great bargain! Those are the best!!! :thumbsup2

I've never seen jeans in Palos and have seen people turned away for having polo shirts and dress shorts and for wearing jeans.

WEll, I think I'm done with the kids' FE gifts, only the other thing for the Adults to put together...I better get busy!
:surfweb: (ok, after I read a few more trs)

Thank you all for your great wisdom!! :worship:

That made me feel MUCH better! Since I'm getting DS a pirate costume for Halloween, that'll kill 2 birds w/ that stone. :thumbsup2

I found some adorable sailor suits on eBay for uber cheap, so will get one a bit larger for DS for formal night. Hopefully, he'll be able to wear it again in the future ... maybe the next DCL cruise!! :rotfl:

Just want to make sure ... for the "cruise casual" nights, we are NOT allowed to wear shorts, correct?

Thanks again!

Our last cruise people were turned away from Palo's if they weren't dressed properly, however the formal and semi-formal nights were all over the map. THere were folks that came in shorts and hawaiian shirts, some came dressed in tuxedos. I personally felt that a nice sun dress was fancy enough for me and I didn't feel out of place at all. For my boys, I just had them wear either a polo shirt with khakis or a dress shirt and tie with khakis. I figured no one would care if a little boy wasn't in a suit. Amazingly even in a sun dress I was still better dressed than many folks.

I figure you are on vacation, dress how you want, how you will be comfortable. However, I do feel that I need to dress a little better on the semi-formal and formal nights.

I just wish that they had someone coming around 1/2 way through dinner to take the kids away to the kids club. Wouldn't THAT be a great service? My young boys were a little too antsy to sit there for nearly 2 hours.

Is there anyone here still looking for Palo brunch reservations??? I have space for a couple more people on my group reservation. If you are not afraid to be around few other people who love Disney and are fun people to be around. Some are parents, some are grandparents - the group is sort of a hodge podge of generations, but overall a great group of folks. If you want to get into Palo's for brunch, we would love to have you. Please let me know soon.

I believe they now have a service where kids can eat and then be picked up by the kids club counselors. The servers bring the kids food out earlier so they can eat and run!

What time and what day is the brunch reservation for?

Ok, I just looked it up...it's called Dine and Play, for kids 3-12. I believe it might be for second seating only, though. Does anyone know for sure?

Cindy-that is too funny, when we cruised in 2008 we told them that they should offer that service so we didn't miss 20 min of dinner while taking them and dropping them off at kids club.

The Palo reservation is Day 6 which is an at sea day. 1030 am.

There's just 2 of us and we might be interested? I would have replied before, but I wasn't sure if we would feel wierd, as in "3rd wheel" with your group? :rotfl: But we are pretty friendly, no really bad table habits (that I know of) :lmao: Question: What's the dress code for Palo brunch? Let me know if you are still looking for someone (how many is your ressie for? LOL :scared1:)

Well...drumroll pllleaaaaaaaaaazee! My FE extravaganza is over (for today) :rotfl2::banana: I am NOT a crafty person, but decided to do something "somewhat" crafty....now I remember why I am NOT a crafty person!! :rotfl2: It will be a funny story over a drink (or 3)...that's for sure. I don't have everything completely ready to go, but I'm 90% there, so I'm happy. :dance3:

7 Weeks today sure sounds good doesn't it?? :woohoo: :cheer2:

Ha, DH and I have a 10:30 Palo Brunch on Day 6, the second sea day. So, I guess we will see you there.

For an earlier poster, I believe Dine and Play is second seating only. Thought they come at 9 to take the kids to the club. We will be pleased to use that service for sure. We will still have DD2 with us though, or will be running her to Flounders.

Have to done one more FE thing, no, two, then should be ready. The items go down in bulk though, for easier packing, and then my DD8 will help package and deliver - she loved that on our previous cruise. She also asked to go to the room all the time, turned out she just wanted to get the stuff from the FE for herself.

It is for 2nd seating only, unfortunately. I got that info directly from DCL. We currently have 2nd seating and are on the waitlist for 1st. If we are stuck w/ 2nd seating, we'll DEFINITELY be using the Dine and Play.

Whew! I finished printing the door magnets this evening! Just need to cut them out. I have one picture that is a black background, so sent that to Walgreen's for a photo and will add a magnet to the back of it.

All these little things keep me going because 7 weeks sounds sooooo far away still! :rotfl:

I noticed on the FE list that Rachel and Matt are directly opposite us on the 7th deck...should make it easy for everyone, up/down the aft elevators and we are right there on opposite sides of the ship! :thumbsup2

How's that....the 32-year veterans and the newlyweds!

Ok, I'm ready to go here! I can't even think about Thanksgiving...
