°o° °o° °o° 9/11/09 DCL Announcement Discussion Thread °o° °o° °o°

We are seriously considering the 6 day Repo from LA to Vancouver. With kids, how long would you suggest we need for Vancouver to tour? The day we get off the ship enough and fly home the next day from Seattle?

When will prices be released? Any guesses for the Repo (2 Cat 9's)?

I have heard the drive from Vancouver to Whistler is incredibly beautiful. Anyone from the area want to comment on that?

You can take a greyhound to Whistler or drive up there. It takes just over an hour. The road is a bit of a mess right now as they make final preparations for the Olympics, but it is a pretty drive.
It is NOT a drive I would do on the same day you are cruising at all, as there is only ONE road, and if there is an accident and it shuts down (and this seems to happen here and there), you can be stuck on that hiway for hours.

Whistler is a really pretty and VERY expensive place to visit!

I'll admit I haven't had the time to read the whole thread but I've tried to read a lot of it.

When is the DREAM up for booking for 2011? Is it the same day (Sept 28th) as the the Magic/Wonder?

Was there any more info about the Dream in that news conference? Seems like there wasn't much or anything.

Question for you experts.... We have a group wanting to book Alaska... We'll probably book 4 staterooms. It seems like it would be easiest to go through a TA so that they can process them all at once with everyone's different forms of payment and help us link our ressies, etc. Do TAs get an opportunity to "pre order" some staterooms at the tier 1 price, or are we only going to be able to get the "best deal" if we book directly through DCL on Sept 28th?

Cant answer that sorry...but if you are going through a TA than try DU(Dreams unlimited) on this board. They are very good and you will get a great OBC. You can also book your excursions on line and Palos without having to have the TA do it.

I always book with DCL than transfer my ressi....This way I always get the cabins I ant and I get to make the choice not the TA. Even when you give an area of what you want when you are booking 4 cabins doing it yourself you will have more options.

It's an incredibly beautiful drive, and Whistler is a great outdoor destination any time of the year. They run trams and certain chairlifts year round, and there is now a route from the top of Whistler mountain to the top of Blackcomb mountain. The view from that ride, thousands of feet above the valley floor, is absolutely incredible and not to be missed.

May I ask where you got that information?

Check post # 1 of this thread and you will see it at and the link to the yahoo news article with the official announcement of it from Disney.

We have a condo in Whistler and do the drive up from Vancouver often. They are almost finished redoing the Sea to Sky Highway up to Whistler for the Olympics next Feb and the drive is very enjoyable now. Whistler in the summertime is gorgeous. Lots to do..hiking, biking, golf, many lakes to enjoy, great restaurants and shopping too! If you don't want to drive there is a train that goes up from North Vancouver I believe. We have never done the train, but would like to one day. The link is

I appreciate that info and I'm not arguing with you (really!) but I swear I have read post #1 about 10 times and the yahoo article 3 times (and even did a word search on the yahoo article for the word "dream" and it was not found). I mean....where the heck are you seeing that?

Oct. 29th is my birthday though - so - I might be motivated to get myself a bday present....;):thumbsup2

Wrong yahoo article link that I was thinking of, BUT the 10/29 date is right above the yahoo link.
I've quoted the first post and hi-lited the info in red for you.
Plus it's been posted on this thread and a couple of other several times so I'm not the only one that has seen
it.

I see what you are saying but that isn't in regard to when the Dream's dates will go on sale.

They can't sell what's not available. Right now you can't see the 2011 cruises for the Dream. I just read on another thread that someone called DCL and asked them about the Dream's itineries and they were told they haven't been announced and only the dates that can be seen on DCL's website will be available for booking on the 9/28. So in that logic the Dream will be available to book sometime after the 10/29 announcement.

Agreed, but Selket's original question was "When is the DREAM up for booking for 2011? Is it the same day (Sept 28th) as the the Magic/Wonder?" so when you replied, "The Dream's info will be released on 10/29 at 4:15pm EST." I assumed you meant the day that the dates would go on sale.

I imagine we'll learn about the Dream sail dates and when they can be booked on Oct. 29th. If it's true that we'll learn to info at that time, then bookings would probably happen sometime early to mid November (just a guess).

Trimix, take a deep breath hun. I made an innocent mistake. That's what I thought I heard him say in his speech. At the time I posted my statement, the webcast wasn't available to review or I would have done so before I posted.

May I ask where you got that information?

There is a big announcement article in the current Castaway Club newsletter.

Quote:

At the D23 Expo on September 11, we unveiled the lobby character for the all-new Disney Dream .... Admiral Donald Duck! You'll find him sitting in the middle of the lobby, being the focal point of all who visit the new ship (Just like Donald wants it!). The all-new Disney Dream, scheduled to set sail in early 2011, will be unveiled live in New York City on October 29! Beginning at 4:15 pm EST, you can watch the streaming video of the unveil and be part of the action at disneycruise.com end of quote.

It is from the press release section of the website. It is interesting that at the very bottom it says:

All pricing reflects a category 11C standard inside stateroom, Government Taxes and Fees not included. To learn more about Disney Cruise Line, to book a vacation or for more detail on offer terms and conditions, guests can contact their travel agent, visit disneycruise.com or call Disney Cruise Line at 888/DCL-2500.

Do you think that was the old Cat 12's with the new classifications that were mentioned? I know many cruise lines have categories and then sub categories like A, B, C., etc.

I'm sure someone already answered this for you (I'm jumping on late) but these are the old CAT 12s. This is what I just read off the DCL website in the "staterooms" section under "standard inside stateroom":

Changes Effective 2011: For cruises sailing in 2011, Standard Inside Staterooms will be reclassified into 3 new categories: 11A, 11B, 11C. These room categories will remain located on Decks 5, 6, 7 and 2. 11C, located on Deck 2, sleeps only 3

Basically they've adapted this "A B C" for almost every category...probably another way for them to add tiered pricing. Reminds me of how RCCL prices their cruises, so that kinda disappoints me...I like it just simple, just give me one price for each category. Oh well...
