ª"˜˜ª¤.¸Team August 2013 Thread! (Part 2)¸.¤ª˜˜"ª&#9733

Need advice from those with little ones who have been to WDW with August crowds. Our DS is VERY active and turns 2 this week. Many have told us to get a harness to keep him close. We keep a close eye on him so its not like we are neglecting parents. LOL. I just wonder if they are right and the crowds may be overwhelming and a harness would be for our peace of mind as well.

Will we look like the bad parents towing a toddler or is common place there?

I always swore I would never use a harness, that my kids would mind what I said and listen. But as we neared our December Disney trip last year I picked up a harness while out at Wal-Mart just in case. Our two year old likes to walk, but does not like to hold hands. He is active and headstrong. My husband made fun of me for buying it at first, but let me tell you that harness was a God send! We figured for 9 bucks we'd take it out of the packaging and throw it in the stroller. He ended up loving to wear it because of the freedom he gained from it. He's wearing it in all our pictures for the most part. We watch ours too, but he's learned how to unbuckle the strollers and this way we can grab the leash and keep track of him. We figured better safe than sorry! We actually use it at baseball games, the mall and some other places now too! Hopefully we're not traumatizing our child, but I think for the time being when he's so active and doesn't always listen as well as he can the peace of mind and safety factor make them worth every penny! Definitely one of the things we can't leave home without when going to Disney for the time being. I think ensuring your toddlers safety makes you a good parent so grab a harness and go!:thumbsup2

I don't think you'll look like bad parents. Anything for peace of mind and his safety!
My children will be wearing bracelets with my cell phone number on it. Maybe you could make him an ID tag and attach it to his shoe lace as an added precaution?

I just ordered a cake for the youngest's birthday to be delivered to our room! I'm so excited! I've never ordered a cake before, but really looking forward to seeing what his Peter Pan cake looks like.:cool1:

How many of you base the park you will visit by the crowd forecast on undercover tourist? I'm trying to finalize a schedule of park days and decide which adr's to keep or cancel. This is our first time in WDW during a peak time with kids... Are the calendars truly accurate or are all of the parks generally crowded in August it doesn't really make a difference? I love Disney, but we are such go with the flow people, I despise having to have all these plans made in advance!

Is there a TJ Maxx or Marshall's near you (or even a Burlington coat factory)? They have great deals on good luggage as long as you aren't looking for an entire matched set.

I noticed the bigger suitcase my two older boys just shared is looking very beat up. And I am not sure how "cool" it is to be using an old black suitcase when you are a teen lol. I think I am going to get them large rolling duffles. I was stalking the carousel belts trying to spot the perfect bag for a teen boy that will last and be appropriate into the college years. Anyone know of a good brand/type? Of course I really think I am just looking for more reasons to shop before this trip ;)

Thanks, yes we have all 3 near me. I never think of looking for luggage at those places for some reason. Duh! I will check them out. I don't need a matching set, just one extra suitcase. I was looking at the rolling duffels on Amazon last night, but I couldn't tell how big they were. I need to see them in person. As for brands or types I have no idea, maybe if you look them up on Amazon you can check the reviews (one of my favorite things to do) and then get one at one of the stores you mentioned.

Happy luggage shopping! Hopefully we'll both have good luck.

I use EasyWDW's crowd calendar to pick which park to go to each day, and it has never steered me wrong before.

We used touring plans our last trip and it didn't make a difference which park we went to. It would say something like epcot was the least crowded and mk was the park to avoid. We hopped, and couldn't tell a difference between crowds, although they weren't bad in either. I do the must do parks first (for us that's mk and epcot) and save hs and AK for the end, so if we finish early - a guarantee with AK - we can hop back to whichever park we enjoyed most.

Can't believe August begins this week, meaning there are several from this group that are actually going to be there this week. Have fun!

Do you think what the crowd calendars forecast actually ends up being opposite because of the recommendations?
Does anyone know how they make their predictions? undercover tourist and the easy wdw calendars are almost opposite of eachother?

This will be my firs trip using one of those sites. I'm going with EasyWDW because so many people on this site have so many good things to say AND he gives a break down of each day explaining how you should tour each park and why he recommends which parks. He also makes posts and shows what different recommended and not recommended days look like. And he's pretty funny :goodvibes

I really don't think crowd calendars have any effect on crowds - not enough people know to look. From what I've read, EasyWDW is more accurate (and free!). As long as it says overall crowd level is 5 or under, I'm good.

He is hilarious!

You know you're Disney obsessed when.....

Every website you visit with personalized advertisements is advertising a trip to Disney World.

It's going to be a sad reminder when we come back home and the internet wants me to go back!

 I got my Magicband!

Went out shopping this morning and when I got home DH had it opened and presented out for me.:goodvibes

I tried it on and at first it isn't very comfortable. So I found where I like it clipped for my size wrist. Took it off and then kept bending the band until is was more circle or oval like so it wouldn't rub one side more then anouther and give my wrist room to move around. It is so much nicer now that I worn it in. Guessing that is one reason they give it to you early so it is comfortable when you get to the parks. It is a nice soft plastic feel not like my watch which is harder. I'll try and post pics of it later if I can but photobucket hasn't been letting upload lately for me.

Seriously.....I recently downloaded DoNotTrackMe because I was getting tired of my personal interests being displayed on every website I visited. I love it. Now I don't have that annoying feeling of being watched wherever I go!

Does anyone have any good links or places to go for info on all of the parking fees in/around Disney? I found a better deal on a car that we could keep for the whole week instead of our one day rental to go to Tampa? Just wondering if this will actually save us any $ on taxis and such if we have to pay to park everywhere we go.

Just got a text from DH - his sergeant gave him the heads up that he probably won't have his leave approved and chewed him out for paying for a vacation without approved leave. I knew it was a gamble, but was hoping it would work. It wasn't in writing so there's still a chance he'll get to go - crossing my fingers!

Oh No!! Will you go without dh if his leave isn't approved?

Why would they wait until the last minute to tell you that? Don't most people pay for their vacations upfront? Ugh. So sorry you're going through that.
