ª"˜˜ª¤.¸Team August 2013 Thread! (Part 2)¸.¤ª˜˜"ª&#9733

Congratulations on making the decision to stay home! I'm starting my third year at home and I love it. Yes, it was an adjustment, but the home really is better run and more peaceful like you said.

We also had insurance concerns. Fortunately for us timing was on our side. When I first left NY did not yet recognize same sex marriage and DW's employer did not offer it for DPs. But then the law passed and I could get insurance, but we still had the imputed tax. Now with the repeal of DOMA we will save the $432 a month in imputed taxes! The universe has a way of making these things work out for you, so I'm sure you will get used to the change soon! And you will also be surprised at how much money you will save in not needing "convenience" things that go along with working full time.

Thanks! I know we will get used to the change soon. Having time to plan meals better and be more frugal overall will help bring our monthly costs down. As for your chunk of change in savings, that sounds like extra Disney money to me! :thumbsup2

Thanks ladies :goodvibes .

My mom keeps reminding me "as long as its only the house and car stuff that's going wrong, and its nothing affecting the health and welfare of the people you love, then everything is surmountable". And I know she's right (Mom's usually are :scratchin). But Geez Louise. Enough already!

So true! We had a year like you are having last year, one house/car thing after another... good times!:rolleyes2
Truly is better than any health issues, though::yes::

Joshsmom - hopefully things are improving down there! "Just keep swimming..." *hugs* thoughts and prayers being sent your way!

What drives me bonkers is that if we had known about the really necessary stuff that was going to hit this summer, we wouldn't have done the cosmetic upgrades earlier in the year (like the doors and the flooring).

Apparently I need a new crystal ball! Mine has totally let me down :crazy2: .

Alas....onward and upward.

I became a SAHM once we moved last year, about a month before DH deployed and DS was born. It was a lot to get used to, but I love it and it's definitely taught us better money management. We were able to create a $10,000 emergency fund saving money during his deployment and I started doing once a month meals (one or two big cook days and all of your food is ready for the whole month) and it saves a ton of money!

just got my luggage tags and magical express info.......is that Mickey Mail?
38 days to go!

It sure is! Got mine today too :goodvibes. No luggage tags as we didn't book a package (I have an AP), but we got our ME stuff.

The funny thing is that we have no return flight info in our book - I know I gave all the info to them at the same time, so I guess that means we just don't come home and will have to stay at the Polynesian forever :cloud9:

That's good to know. I've read about cooking once for the whole month, but it seems overwhelming to me. The most I do now is cook once for two meals. Maybe I can work my way up! :goodvibes

A few years ago we were having dinner with some friends who were already having a rough year. They lost a car in a flood and then had a pipe burst while they were on vacation a couple months later, requiring all of the carpeting to be replaced on the first level of their home. During that dinner the wife mentioned she wanted to remodel their kitchen. A week later their home burned down, including the garage which had the replacement car in it and the brand new carpet that had just been finished the Friday before.

Nobody was hurt and they rebuilt their house but when we saw them after it happened we told the wife that there are much easier ways to remodel a kitchen!

Ha! Thank God no one was hurt. Things are replaceable and not important- I must tell myself a hundred times a day! So much easier said than lived though.....at least for me anyway *flawed*

Onceamonthmom. Com has meal plans by month, including a shopping list, and explains what order to cook everything to be the most efficient. Really helped me when I was getting started!

Made our countdown calendar tonight!

If we book a package don't we also get a booklet with our reservation information and vouchers/coupons, or is that sent separately from the magical express stuff. I just thought about this now.

First of all I have to say that I too want to see the Pigletto lights, but I'd also like to see her sneak in and decorate. Heck I'd probably help decorate too.

I hope you stay employed, too! It's never fun to be unemployed unexpectedly or have things go sour at work. Let us know how it goes!

This scenario has been on my mind for my job as well. My boss and the next senior-level employee I work with have been employed long enough to retire. One or both of their departures could negatively impact my position. That, coupled with many other reasons, is why I am trying to pre-empt this scenario by leaving first! My DH and I are currently planning my exit to become a full-time stay-at-home mom by the end of the year. This is one of the reasons our August vacation is on such a low budget--we are getting prepared for the transition! :scared1:

I became a stay at home mom more than 2 years ago now. As others have said, money is tighter, but it is so worth being around for your kids. It really was a great decision for us and I hope it works out well for you too.

I said yesterday that the website seemed to be much better yesterday. Today it's back to being all jacked up. Wonder what they are doing with it now...

:confused3

The website is wacky. Some days we all have multiple tickets, some only two of us have mulpiple tickets, some days only 2 of us have any tickets. It has been different every day. I have enjoyed just going on the website to see what the days wacky scenario will be. :) I know by the time we arrive everything will be fine.

Stay at home mom here too! Well sort of. I also do in home daycare. It's mostly before and after school. Most of my clients are neighbours and on different shifts so some weeks it's 6 kids for the day, another day it might be only after school kids.
I will say upfront it is tiring, but very much worth it for my family. My background is working with kids with disabilities and I worked in daycare facilities, camps and a school for years. But at some point I really really really hated leaving my own kids every day and giving all I had to other peoples children and being too exhausted to give much to my own at the end of the day. So this is the best of both worlds for us.
It's hectic at times and requires patience and love from all of our family but it's been 10 years now and we have it down to a science:goodvibes

I have never, not one moment, regretted being here for my kids all day. I love that they always had someone to play with and we've made lifelong friends with many families.
All of the children I watch will be school age next year and I will only do before and after school care. So what did I decide to do? Get a puppy to train:rotfl2:
Apparently I need a little chaos all the time;)

Thanks! I am feeling better about it after hearing everyone's comments, which makes me look more and more forward to this trip! I can't believe we are only 35 days away from leaving. Woohoo! :cool1:
