QOTD??? In The News...

What's the craziest thing YOU ever brought to Disney??

A 24 pack of pudding that was supposed to last Dh, then boyfriend, and I all week but he loves pudding so it didn't.

He probably would say a bear with 1999 on it (the year) and an engagement ring!

So, as a QOTD, have you/would you plan a Disney trip without your kids? If so, did you/would you feel guilty? And, do your kids know where you are going?

I wouldn't go to Disney or any vacation with out my kids. Well except if they weren't young kids anymore, you know college age or older.

As little kids, I'd feel guilty. I could never leave them or even one behind. Even a baby who requires constant care.

I always felt like I was left out when my parents and 2 older sisters went to California/San Fran area and DL with out me. I frequently have to remind myself that I wasn't born yet and my mother wasn't pregnant with me either at that point. Fast forward a few years and my parents took me on trips that either both or just one of my sisters didn't go on since they were older.

I can't imagine it. I would feel guilty the entire time. I think for us we are all such huge Disney lovers and it's something we all look forward to and plan together. They would be sad. I think my 16 yr old might understand but my 9 yr old would be hurt. It's just not a vacation I could take without them.

We went on a cruise without them once. I worried the whole time. It's not something I'll do again.

Ditto here!

I have taken many vacations without my kids and only ever feel slightly guilty :rotfl:, but I have never taken a Disney vacation without kids. My plans for 2014, however, are (hopefully now - I'm assuming I'll be back to running in a few weeks) to do the C2C challenge with Tink in January at DL and F&W in November at WDW. But both of these weekends will be quick trips and logistically easier to do sans kids. Oh, but the guilt!

I still haven't decided what to do about it. My kids do go to WDW for their senior year trip - DS17 will go in March, so it may be the year to introduce not all is equal and balanced, but I still haven't made up my minds.

My dad went to WDW to play golf one year. I'm pretty sure he never set foot in a park, but my mother forbade me to tell my (much younger) sisters where he was :rotfl2:.

I'd love to take any trip with my dh without the girls but seeing as they're so young still it would be difficult to get someone to watch them over a weekend let alone a week!

One day we'll look back to all the fun we've had together and remember it fondly. It's on my bucket list to go to Disney without them though lol!

I would love to, but I know my kids would be so mad at us! Maybe when they leave for college in 7 years?? Right now they still love going with us,and hopefully always will!

Going without kids:

Yep, that's what we're doing in August! :cool1: I've never been more excited for a Disney trip either; I'm much more excited than I am when going with the kids. this trip is all about ME, ME, ME, to do what I want, when I want, how I want. I may never want to go back with the kids again after this. :p

Hello my team August friends!

The past few months have been quite busy for me, as many of you know my mom had been in very poor health and unfortunately she was not able to recover. She was removed from life support and passed peacefully on the 23rd.

I realize more that ever that I really need this August trip. Since I am taking my sister for her first ever trip, my mom was overjoyed that her girls were going to have a vacation together. So now it's time to put myself back into planning and catch up on everything I've missed. It's going to take me a few days to catch up on everything but I'll definitely have everything updated.

Thanks to everyone for your concern while I was away!! :grouphug:

This thread is moving fast! I had an unexpected visit to the hospital yesterday for excruciating abdominal pain. It felt like something was about to rupture, and it turned out be a kidney stone. One day away, and I come back to five pages?!? Has anyone had a kidney stone before? I hope I never get one again!

 Here's hoping you are on the mend! My dad suffered from kidney stones many times during his life, and I remember how awful they were for him. Not fun!

Had them when I was pregnant with DS...NOT fun at all. I have a high pain tolerance, but THAT was the worst ever.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss SenecaWolf. I've thought of you often. I hope you are able to find some comfort in here with us planning your vacation with your Disney friends:hug:
As a mom I too would be overjoyed if my kids could go and find joy together if I weren't able to be with them. I think your mom is smiling to know you guys have this bright spot to look forward to.

Your weekend sounds great. We enjoyed a trip to Ottowa for Canada Day two years ago - totally by accident as we were passing through and staying over night on a 16 day Canadian road trip. We just happened to hit Ottowa along with Will and Kate and a few million of the friendliest people! It was a great time. Do all the cities have big celebrations that weekend?

Most places (even some of the teeny weeniest communities) make a big deal about Canada Day in their own special way. But Ottawa, being our nation's capital, does it up the biggest. I generally try to avoid Ottawa as it just doesn't have the "vibe" that appeals to me (nothing against all my Ottawa friends here on the Dis :) ) but someday I would like to visit during the Canada Day celebrations to enjoy all the patriotic hooplah :goodvibes .

Definitely enjoy this trip with your sister to celebrate your mom's life! :grouphug:

Thanks. I couldn't even keep water down, due to all the narcotics they had me on. So getting over being dehydrated is my biggest issue right now. I have definitely been scared into drinking more water, less soda, and watching what I eat! They will be testing the stone to give us a better idea of what caused it and how to prevent it in the future.

Had them when I was pregnant with DS...NOT fun at all. I have a high pain tolerance, but THAT was the worst ever.
I couldn't even imagine having them while pregnant! And I agree, even a high level of pain tolerance can't fully prepare you for that. I had back labor with one my pregnancies, but this kidney stone was far worse!

I was thinking about you during this past week wondering how things were going. Sorry for the loss of your mother. I know I'm going to be a wreck when my mom goes.

QOTD??? In The News...

What's the craziest thing YOU ever brought to Disney??

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) — A Walt Disney World patron on a ride with her grandson found a loaded gun on her seat.
Officials said Wednesday that the woman found the pistol on the Dinosaur ride at Animal Kingdom. The woman gave the loaded weapon to a park attendant, who then contacted her manager and authorities.
The owner of the gun, Angelo Lista, told authorities that he discovered his firearm was missing several minutes after leaving the ride. He has a concealed weapons permit.
Lista told authorities he didn't know Disney World patrons weren't allowed to bring guns. He said he thought the security checkpoint at the entrance to the central Florida park was only so guards could check bags for bombs or explosives.
Disney World prohibits patrons from bringing weapons of any kind on its property.

Can't believe someone would be ignorant enough to bring a gun to Disney! What was he thinking? :confused3

For me personally I think the craziest thing was brought on the last trip. We drove so we had a lot more flexibility on what we could and couldn't bring. Since our room didn't have a coffee maker we brought along our Keurig *and* a bottle of Irish Cream Liqueur. That stuff is great with the hot chocolate that they serve at the food court at AoA. :thumbsup2

Ditto here!

So, as a QOTD, have you/would you plan a Disney trip without your kids? If so, did you/would you feel guilty? And, do your kids know where you are going?

We take trips routinely without our kids and our kids take trips without us as well. Since DD1 was about a year old, one or both of our kids have spent a week or two at a time with my wife's family out of state. Last summer they were gone for 7 weeks. :woohoo: We also enjoy going to Las Vegas for vacation and we're of the opinion that it's very much NOT a place for kids to be at, so the kids will typically stay with my mom when we go.

As for a kidfree Disney trip? We talked about it on the last trip during our first day when the kids were downright ornery. We thought that maybe an anniversary trip or a F&W trip might be fun. With the kids being the age they are though, and the magic still being real, we definitely would feel guilty about going to Disney without them. I think they would be very upset if we went without them too.

Now my ex wife's kids? We took them in 1999 and had a great trip. The next year we said we were going to go back and they didn't want to go! So my ex and I went to Universal instead and left them home. :)

Last Tuesday morning I had a TIA, which is a mini-stroke.

So my message to you is, if you ever have weird symptoms where you get light headed, dizzy, and just don't feel right, see a doctor, even if you think it's nothing.
I hope you are feeling better, and thanks for the reminder! It's true, how many times do any of us feel "off" and hope that it just passes? I'm glad you had someone there with you, and that you were able to get the help you needed!
