My sister is a quilter and does some beautiful work so I know what a labor of love these things are. I just wanted you to know how very talented I think you are!

We just booked a last minute August trip. We were going to wait until next May but with some yard sale selling and military discount, we are going this August too!!!!

We are staying at Art of Animation (8/18-8/23) but thinking of adding an extra night to that on the end.---hoping for a Cars suite but with military discount they wont let you pick but we have it noted on our ressie.

It will be: me , DH , DD(10) , DS(7) , DS(1), DMIL and DFIL .

Plus it is DH's birthday on the 23rd!

No dining ressies yet. I am sure we will do mostly counter service since this trip will be on the cheap but I am hoping for somewhere nice for birthday night. Need to get on that ASAP!

We've always worn tennis shoes when touring, but in that August heat and rain I know we're going to want sandals! We've never put that much money into kid's shoes before, and I'm wondering what you Disney-In-August veterans like!

When my kids were younger they liked their crocs. Not the best support, but they were comfortable in them. Now as teens they like their flip flops - they have reefs and sanuks. I was thinking of getting them keens for this summer as a second shoe. We are doing the Wild Animal Trek and will need closed toed shoes for that. They could bring their sneakers, but the keens would be better if they get wet (which in August is pretty much a guarantee!).

That will be cool! My kids will be in matching customs each day. I hope to start a thread with what I am working on for them each day after I get some of my current orders out. I usually do 2 sets per day per kid but I am not sure if I will do as many this time but I might since I know a break in the day will be a must with the heat!

I'm the same way. I'm also weird in that my feet tend to get cold if they aren't well covered and the rest of me gets cold as a result. So I'm typically not a flip-flop/sandal person. I had the same thought though that I didn't want to have wet socks and shoes and/or horrifically sweaty feet after being in the August heat/humidity, rain and water rides. We went on the hunt for something that would be good for walking the thousands of miles in the parks and be able to handle water well. My wife settled on Vibram fivefingers and I got a pair of Keen Clearwater CNX water sandals. They have a closed toe and nothing that goes between the toes (which I've discovered I don't like) and so far on a few 2 mile+ walks haven't given any blisters. I tried the Tevas and while the bottom cushion on them was more comfortable, the upper felt like it would rub and generate blisters so I passed on those.

The kids tried on the fivefingers for kids and loved them. Of course, kids can be fickle and one minute they love something and the next they hate it, so getting shoes can be a challenge. I'd have them try on a few things and see what they like. Some swear by crocs. Others swear at them. All boils down to personal preference.

Yes, I am just a slacker! LOL It sounds like you had an amazing trip - so glad your boys still "get" the Disney magic... I am worried that my girls will be "too cool" for it this year, as they have already told me that I can't talk about the trip with them anymore. Kind of makes it hard to plan.

Awww... I miss FQ... So happy that we get to stay there again.

As Victoria and I were driving home from her choir concert last night - my air has recently gone out in my Edge, and I am awaiting the arrival of a part that had to be ordered to fix it... Anyways, I told V that "this is what is it going to be like in Florida on our trip"... Not sure how we are going to hanld the heat??? Really nervous about it.

Anyways - glad to be here, I will try to stop in a bit more frequently.

LOL, we stay in Villas so not cleaning is not a choice, not making the bed is not an option. I love to do laundry when on vacation. It's my down time, they are small loads and I go home with luggage full of clean clothes This trip we are in a 2 bedroom at WL so I will cook a lb of bacon and some sausage to use for the week. I hate getting the egg sandwich at Roaring Forks. I don't like it and by the time we are done it's about $40. We are bringing our 2 sons 23 and 17 so just an english muffin is not an option We won't eat dinner in the room. I plan on using garden grocer for our breakfast needs, snacks and drinks. To get through all of the work I like to think of it as a labor of love ....I am rather delusional.

QOTD: Do you do routine household stuff like laundry and cooking while you're on your trip or do you prefer that to be left at home since you're on vacation?

I think I'll do laundry at least once while I'm there. Traveling with a toddler and the fact that it will be early August will have us changing clothes frequently. We have two pool days planned so I will hopefully just use up a little bit of time to get it done.
We'll have milk, juice, fruit, cereal, etc in our room just in case but that's it as far as "cooking" goes.

I'm a binder girl . I have everything sectioned off with colour-coded and labelled tabs, from flight documentation to accomodation info to maps to coupons to park hours and EVERYTHING in between. I am a paperwork geek, yes its true.

It IS quiet here today!!! The Disney website is down--AGAIN--at least for me!! Haven't been able to get on since before lunch.

As for the QOTD:
I used to do the whole binder thing with color coding and everything. After about the 3rd time, I threw it out. I have my ADRs on my phone, along with my Reservation number. Other than that, we wing it from there!!

I am a binder girl...it helps me deal with my planning obsession...and keeps me busy so I don't change my mind about everything!! (Otherwise my resort changes and ADRs are changed on a regular basis!)

Busy end of year for me. Trying to get caught up on grading, etc. only 7 more days!! Then a week break before I teach summer school.
