I just had a crazy thought.. and I know it's a longshot.
Do you think Disney has plans for their "Monstorous Summer" promotion that they think will bring in higher crowds the last 2 weeks of August?
Could that be one of the reasons that it was left out of free dining?

I am more likely to think that it's a combination of prebooking reasons that made it so they didn't have to offer it (bounceback, overall crowd increase last year, events etc) but... I started to wonder this morning if they have something really cool up their sleeve to end the Monstorous Summer promotion. They are kicking it off with a 24 hour day.

Probably just wishful thinking. Or not so wishful because I am not hoping for big crowds.

We are booked at AoA LM right now at rack rate. No FD or other discount at the moment. The rooms are sold out the week we are there too so a resort or room change would be required to get any sort of discount too.

I hadn't thought about walking to Epcot in the heat. That might be no bueno for the kids.

As a family that always stays at the BC (in August), I love the walk to Epcot. From the IG to Soarin is about the same walk as the front gate to Soarin, for comparison (and you need to walk from the buses to the front gate, which cancels out the walk from the resort). It's so nice to walk out of your hotel room and in less than five minutes be in Epcot, and after Illuminations, you can be back in your room or the pool by 9:30 if you want. We also almost always walk to HS, and walk back/take the boat back about 50-50. For us to not have to deal with bus transportation to two of the parks is a major reason we stay in that area. Plus SAB is awesome.

What was your wife's concern about transportation?

As for making the switch, only you can decide, but the dining built into your original price does make it a bigger than $50 difference. You could always take a walk over to the BC from Epcot one afternoon to see if it's something you'd like to try in the future if a deal like this comes out again, too.

Sent in my request for a quote from *** on Wednesday and still haven't heard back from them....hmmm..maybe I screwed up the request :confused3

I never heard back...and I tried twice...

I've been wondering if late-August travelers would be able to experience all the Monstrous Summer activities, since they haven't mentioned an exact timeframe. But, now, I could totally see them ending the event with a 24-hour day on Labor Day. That would completely fit into the special offer timelines we are seeing. One would question why they wouldn't have announced it at the same time, but perhaps they are driving sales for early summer by announcing the Memorial Day event first, and then perhaps announce a Labor Day event later in the summer.

I sent in my request at 9am yesterday and had a quote back by 9:30am. Check your spam folder, maybe it got filtered into there? Samantha was the one that got back to me, maybe try again and specifically request her?

We booked the GF for the same price as what we had booked at POFQ with the same park tickets. Chance to stay on the monorail at the same price as a Mod? Can't pass that up.

The deal is worth it, so I'd try again.

I already convinced my DH to switch from CR to AKL and it's not one of the resorts available for the dates we're there. He pretty much threatened divorce if I even thought about making any more changes. :-) I'm not going to push my luck...

Very silly, not at all on topic, QOTD:

If you could be chaperoned around the parks by any Disney character, who would you pick and why?

Mary Poppins because she's practically perfect in every way. We'd probably get to the front of the line for every attraction and dining reservation for sure! :)

I wonder if my timeframe, resort, etc is sold out? Thought I'd hear something about it though....oh well, I'm still hopeful that a room only discount will come out :thumbsup2

Tinkerbell! Because then we'd be sure to have plenty of pixie dust along the way. :-)

AoA LM all the way! IMHO Those rooms are sold out for a reason, ya know it's true - we got one of them that week. Plus Character Dinning means you don't have to wait on meet and greet lines in the parks. You will enjoy the upgrade, but the kids will like the LM room better by far. I'd wait until they are older and can appreciate the upgrade.

I had this thought this morning, that while my wife and I might appreciate the nicer & larger room at YC, the kids love staying at "Ariel's House" at AoA. Also, the character dining does get a lot of the autograph stuff out of the way.

The wife's concern about transportation was shared bussing with BC. I haven't told her about the boat to HS or walking to EP yet though.

The $50 difference is what we're paying for room & tix, with the difference being our current tix have 4 WP&M days on it and the *** tix have 1 WP&M day on them. We're paying $622 for the QSDP and if we upgrade (which I think we will) the DDP is $873 for our family.

Talking more in depth about the dining situation my wife said that part of why she doesn't want to do all CS is that she doesn't want to eat nothing but burgers, hot dogs and chicken the whole week. While I know there certainly are exceptions to that (BOG for one) Americana food is a bit of a theme through many of the CS places.

I think we likely will stay with AoA since we're already booked there, but in the future I will look at *** and possibly other travel agents (as well as the freaking BB!) for some other deals because it's obvious that there are some deals out there. I had always wondered how folks justified staying at the Deluxe resorts and my guess would be that some got deals like these and some just have too much money! :rotfl2:

Probably Tigger because he's so much fun!

Gotta be Mickey.

What can I say? I'm a Disney purist :thumbsup2 .

He is sweet and wonderful enough to appeal to me, but he's a guy and not so sweet that he would annoy the crap out of DH and DS :rotfl:. Mary Poppins, for example, would not go over well at all.

2nd choice? Buzz Lightyear.

Haha. My son would say Ariel. :-)

It would be either Piglet or Pumba. Piglet because I've always felt both pity and and a kinship with him over his obvious anxiety issues. I could slip him one of my leftover "Don't freak out on the plane!!!" pills and mellow him right out. The poor guy needs it:rotfl2:

And Pumba because he's hilarious and we could burst into song randomly "When I was a young warthaaaaawwwwwwgggggg!!!!":cool2:

And now I've got to sit and figure out why I have such an affinity for Disney Pigs.:confused3

:rotfl:

:rotfl: See, I would have to veto Ariel. No way I'm going to spend my day with two guys who couldn't keep their eyes off her....shells ;) .

:lmao:

You guys are awesome. Cheered me right up. I can always count on my DIS family to make me feel better.

I still can't decide which character I would choose...:worried:
