“IT’S OUR MOTHER DAUGHTER TRIP!” Our Spontaneous Getaway - April 2011 COMPLETE 9/13

Okay, firstly, when I saw this title, I was laughing so hard for some reason. I don't know why. Maybe I was in a different mindset... moving on... :teeth: Probably Kristen would've beat me today, but whatevs, she isn't here so I beats her... alright, I need to get to the update--->

Okay... YAY! Magic Kingdom! I was nervous you were just going to skip over that. I can actually breathe now because of this TR update (:rotfl:) The M&G area for the new Magician Mickey meet is so nicely themed. I still haven't met classic Mickey or Minnie, so I definitely have to check this out. :thumbsup2

I see Splash in the distance :cloud9: I LOVE Splash Mountain! Well, doesn't everyone? Hahaha That's a great picture with you making the heart in front of Splash :thumbsup2 And what is with the PDA in a children's park? I mean, that's just rude and something you generally don't want to see. :sad2:

OMG, they seriously have those chocolates? I'm totally going to get one. From now on, I'll probably just say "Please Stand Clear of My Chocolate! Por Favor Mantenganse Alejado de Mi Chocolate!" when I go on the monorail Hahahaha But I'm going to find that chocolate :thumbsup2 Something to remind me of my first Monorail experience...

Awww... the Duck family is adorable! And I love your castle pictures! (: I've always wondered what type of camera you used? Seriously you've taken some very nice pictures, ones you generally see on Disney adverts. :goodvibes

That's nice you got to see Hall of Presidents again (: I've never seen it before, but I've heard it's a great chance to take a nap Hahaha Maybe, I'll have to use that as a way to rejuvenate halfway through a big Park Hopping day. ::yes::

Can't wait to read more! :mickeyjum

P.S. I just wanted to let you know, that throughout your TRs, some of the pictures you post in updates I can't see, like they are totally blanked out. I don't know why, but I wanted to let you know :)

Lol, love the title and I don't like anyone coming near my chocolate either! :rotfl: I read on further and realised the relevance of the title!

Yay on meeting Mickey and Minnie and lol I think I will be that little boy on our trip!

Great castle shots :thumbsup2

Love the Magic Kingdom pictures! :cloud9: I'm so excited to go to the new Mickey & Minnie meet and greet. A goal for this trip is to get a ton of character pictures.
I really like the one with you in focus and Splash Mountain in the back kinda blurry. I got a Nikon D3100 so I hope to get lots of pictures like that on my trip. :goodvibes
Also, those baby ducks are sooooooooooooooooo cute!!!!! Like unbelievably cute, that's how cute. :rotfl:

Can't wait for the next update. :thumbsup2

Those chocolates look awesome! I would've bought them just to keep the box. :rotfl:
I don't think I've seen the Hall of Presidents since I was 7 years old, and I probably would've rested my eyes, as well.
It looks like you guys had a relaxing and enjoyable MK morning. Strolling around and enjoying the castle is always fun!

I heart Tonga Toast!

ME TOO.

Great update. So nice to do a mother/daughter trip. What great memories you will have.

Thank you! It was lots of fun! I am so happy we got to do that together... we will definitely remember it forever! :goodvibes

Ah, gotta love naptime at shows in WDW.

I love all of the new candies that they have! I bought some on my last trip and it was really good!

And seriously, who wouldn't love monorail merchandise?

Ahh yes. They are refreshing, aren't they!
And oh my gosh me too! I need to buy some for myself!
And I TOTALLY agree. I mean, the chocolates, the shirts, the hats... it can't get much better than that! :wizard:

Love the new Mickey & Minnie greeting area! It's so adorable.
And that Mickey sandwich cutter is so cute. Mickey shaped food just always tastes better

I agree!
And aww I know, right? I want a Mickey PB&J right now!!

Love the monorail chocolates btw. I will definitely remember that next trip

Haha thanks! Good find, right? You'll have to pick those up next time!

You look so happy when you are greeting Mickey and Minnie!
Oh my word those monorail chocolates are adorable!!!!
I love your love of Splash Mountain!!! It is my favorite!!! And your <3 photo is too cute!!!

Hahaha I was :) I love those two.
And I know, right?! They are AWESOME!
Hahaha thank you! I love it too! And thank you! :goodvibes

I still act that way when I see Mickey & Minnie and I'm 26!

Good to hear! I'll probably still act that way when I'm 46... :rotfl2:

Awesome trip report! I am just joining in now!

How very special for you and your mom to get away together. I cannot wait for me and my DD4 to have our special times together.

Now, I'm heading over to check out your other active report!

I'm so glad you are here! It's never too late to join in on the fun!
Aww thank you! It was really a memorable experience for both of us... I'm sure it will be great for you and your daughter someday!
And hooray! I hope you enjoy that one too!

Okay, firstly, when I saw this title, I was laughing so hard for some reason. I don't know why. Maybe I was in a different mindset... moving on... Probably Kristen would've beat me today, but whatevs, she isn't here so I beats her... alright, I need to get to the update--->

Hahaha don't you love when you read things and you just start laughing at them? I do that sometimes... and I just amuse myself.
And LOL DON'T WORRY! Magic Kingdom is my favorite. I don't think I could go to Disney without visiting it! And on this trip, I went the first day! Why the heck not!
That Meet and Greet is great! I hope you will be able to go there on your next trip!
Aww thanks about the Splash Mountain pictures!
And I know, right? How rude!
Hahaha those chocolates are fantastic. Seriously. Smart Move, Disney.
I love those ducks! And thanks!
I use a Canon D3100. My Dad got it for me for Christmas this past year and I LOVE IT! It takes fantastic pictures. I still feel like I don't know how to use it completely, but I know enough to take pretty good pictures! It's definitely my Disney Camera! And aww thank you so much! That's so nice!
Haha Hall of Presidents is a nice relaxing attraction. It is a nice place to get out of the sun, too!

And PS oh no, really?? :( They're all there for me... I wonder if this happens to other people. Do you have any examples of where that happens?

Lol, love the title and I don't like anyone coming near my chocolate either! :rotfl: I read on further and realised the relevance of the title!

Yay on meeting Mickey and Minnie and lol I think I will be that little boy on our trip!

Great castle shots :thumbsup2

Hahaha thank you. I'm glad you liked it
And aww I love that! I know, right? MICKEY!!
And thank you!

Thank you! That's a great goal, I bet you can do it! I love meeting characters!
And haha thank you! My Mom took that one! I have no idea how to focus it like that (and neither does she) but sometimes it just happens that way! It might have been on the portrait setting.
I HAVE THE SAME CAMERA AS YOU! That's exactly it. Enjoy it, because you get some awesome quality photos!
And aww aren't they? :)
And thank you! I'll update soon, I'm sure!

Those chocolates look awesome! I would've bought them just to keep the box. :rotfl:

Hahaha I really should buy them next time I'm there. That box is priceless.
And LOL yup that's what happens in the Good 'Ol Hall of Presidents!
Ahh that was a wonderful morning and it was lots of fun!

Hahaha don't you love when you read things and you just start laughing at them? I do that sometimes... and I just amuse myself.

Then, there are reactions to those just sitting around you. So confused :lmao:

Oh that's a nice one! Canons are usually very good cameras. I really wish my camera would work as good. :teeth:

And PS oh no, really?? :( They're all there for me... I wonder if this happens to other people. Do you have any examples of where that happens?

It may be because of the darn parental controls on my computer that just blocks anything that sounds even remotely suspicious, when it isn't :sad2: But an example would be the picture of the Umbrella for Kristen and the Sandwich cutter, too.

Hahaha that's the best part ;)
WAIT I lied to you. I meant Nikon. I don't know why I wrote Canon :rotfl: I am a frump, sorry. Nikon D3100.
And oh, maybe :( I don't know. They work for me... so I don't know what the difference is. Strange stuff. Computers are weird. :confused3

It is a sad day when you realize you've been so busy you didn't notice another trip report!! Great unexpected find this morning. Browsed the entire thread. Sounds like a great start to another Disney trip. My family was all about spontaneous trips when I was growing up!! Love them! Looking forward to the rest of your report.

Oh, you have a Nikon too! Mine's a Coolpix, so it's more for just regular photos, not very nice photos. I try my best with it, but not all the photos come out good :/

And oh, maybe :( I don't know. They work for me... so I don't know what the difference is. Strange stuff. Computers are weird. :confused3

Just don't worry about it. Maybe I'm able to see it on my other computer :thumbsup2

Oh no! Well I'm glad you found this one and I hope you enjoy it! It was a lot of fun! Aren't spontaneous trips the best?! SO FUN! :yay: I'm excited to share the rest with you all!

Aww well, at least it's something!
And yeah, you should check and see if it's the computer or if it's the files.

Whoops! I fell behind since (coincidentally) my family was out visiting us in Colorado (and confirming my thoughts on vacationing with my mother!). Wall of text time :)

My boyfriend's from Florida so he likes ~authentic~ Cuban food (I can't tell the difference). The bread and mango butter is from a restaurant in Orlando (and a few other cities) - Cuba Libre. We've been to the one in Philadelphia and the restaurant is all themed and reminds me of the San Angel Inn! So there may be a personal bias there.

I liked your view! Biased because my first apartment was right next to the parking lot so I had to get used to falling asleep to cars driving in or out and trash collection. Plus a balcony (sadly not included in my apartment)!

Yum Kona! We have a reservation for there in December and I can't wait! The juice sounds so delicious! I hope it's still available at dinner - we're all booked up for breakfast and couldn't give up a morning slot for Kona when there's so many other breakfast places we like.

I LOVE the posters and theme in the Town Hall meet and greet. We're not meet and greet people but I'm considering ducking in to take photos of the theming. And castle pictures! But it's so easy to get good shots of the castles and there's so many!

Never been on Splash Mountain because I tend to go in the cooler season (and I hate getting wet). We are going in Hall of Presidents in our next trip because I've never been and feel that I can't pass it up anymore!

Sandwich cutters and pancake molds are my favorite type of souvenirs if only because they're so useful after the trip. And involve food :lmao: Well, favorite next to things like food and candy!

Thank you! That's a great goal, I bet you can do it! I love meeting characters!
And haha thank you! My Mom took that one! I have no idea how to focus it like that (and neither does she) but sometimes it just happens that way! It might have been on the portrait setting.

And aww aren't they? :)
And thank you! I'll update soon, I'm sure!

No problem! :goodvibes And thanks! Whenever I see a character, I'm gonna run right in line.

Haha your mom did a good job! :thumbsup2 When my mom takes pictures with it she stands there going "Steph, I have no clue what I'm doing. What button do I press again?" and surprisingly she takes some pretty good pictures!

That's so cool we have the same camera! I actually found out about it on the Photography boards on here. I wanted a nice one to take to Disney. :lovestruc I bought it with my own money and everything, I just really needed an upgrade from my Nikon Coolpix (which I dropped in the sand and broke two weeks ago...but that's another story.) :rotfl:

I'll remember to put it in portrait mode. :) And I think to focus it you just have to hold down on the button a little (with some force but not enough to actually take the picture) and it will either get really blurry or really focused, depending on which you may have to press on it again! I've gotten some pretty nice pictures using that camera!

No problem! Vacation Planning is very important !! :yay:
Oooh San Angel Inn! I've never been there before! But I get the idea haha. That bread and mango butter sounds good though
Haha thanks! I liked it too! Parking lot view is good enough for me if I'm in Disney!
Haha I don't know if they still have it at dinner! Maybe if you ask they can give you some :) Kona for breakfast is my FAVORITE... if you can't squeeze it in this trip.. you must go there on the next!
That meet and greet is adorable.. I recommend at least taking a quick look in there!
You've never been on splash mountain?!?! You have to try it! Ask for a back seat if you don't like getting wet. It's a classic!
And hahaha I totally agree. Anything involving food makes it THAT much better :thumbsup2

No problem! :goodvibes And thanks! Whenever I see a character, I'm gonna run right in line.

Hahaha yeah, sometimes my Mom gets confused too. But I think she secretly loves using the fancy camera
Did you really!? It's a REALLY great camera.. I see people all of the time with it at the parks. That's awesome that you bought it yourself!! It's definitely an upgrade... that's for sure! And aww I'm sad it broke :( I still use my Sony Cybershot once in a while.. but it just doesn't do a justice anymore. I like my Nikon WAY better.
And ahh okay! Thank you! I will try doing that. I know what you're talking about.. I just haven't really connected two and two yet  (I should have by now LOL) Do you find it to be really annoying at night?? Because mine focuses NONSTOP and I never can get a picture taken :(

I love that box of chocolate:rotfl:

Me too :lovestruc So cute!!

Chapter 6 - The Plaza
April 8th, 2011

Our next stop was one of my all time favorites.. Splash Mountain!

dsc06113b.jpg

Before we went on, we watched people go down the big drop for a little while. It is so incredibly amusing... if you haven't done that it a while, I would recommend it. It's funny and gets you ready for your own adventure!

dsc06117li.jpg

dsc06118n.jpg

We were in the 3rd row. I haven't been able to get Mom on this ride in a couple years, but thankfully she went on! And she ended up really liking it! Hooray!

dsc06124ba.jpg

I love this little bunny!

dsc06114f.jpg

dsc06116gy.jpg

I LOVE this little ending:

dsc06119g.jpg

dsc06121mj.jpg

dsc06120zu.jpg

After our visit to the laughing place, we headed over to Tomorrowland to go on the PeopleMover. Unfortunately, it was not operating at the moment.

I found this cute little Mickey that was made out of wood chips near the PeopleMover. Adorable!

dsc0764dl.jpg

So, we decided to go on the Carousel of Progress. We sat in the front on the right side, which was a very different view than normal!

dsc0766t.jpg

We usually sit up in the back. It sounds different up there! Like in the Valentine's Day scene, for example, the dialogue gets drowned out by the music when you sit up in the back. However, in the front, you can hear much better!

dsc0767cw.jpg

I Love Rover (:

dsc0768h.jpg

After exiting the ride, we saw more baby ducks!! A Cast Member was directing them away from the main pathway so they wouldn't get stuck in a crowd. How precious!

dsc0769m.jpg

Then it was time for our lunch reservations at 1:45 pm. We headed over to The Plaza! We were seated within a minute.

dsc0777k.jpg

This was our first time going to The Plaza, and I think it is a hidden gem in the Magic Kingdom! Everyone forgets about it, but it's so good!

dsc0774zl.jpg

Our waitress's name was Kendra, and she was very nice!

I ordered a Turkey Sandwich without the Bacon and Tomato:

dsc0772uq.jpg

And Mother got a Vegetarian Sandwich:

dsc0773t.jpg

This was the perfect lunch after our huge breakfast! I was able to eat it without feeling overly stuffed. Very good!

But of course, I had to eat as much as I possibly could fit in my stomach. :rotfl: So we got a banana split to share! The pineapple and banana were delicious!

dsc0776l.jpg

The Plaza is a very nice little spot, and it's pretty spread out even though it's small. I never felt crowded. It's very cute!

dsc0771pg.jpg

Overview of The Plaza Dining Experience
Food: Exactly what we needed. The portions were just right and it was so tasty and fresh! And I could substitute grapes for fries so it was nice and healthy! 5/5
Waitress: Kendra
Service: Kendra was very nice. She was not outstandingly memorable, but she was friendly and efficient! 4.5/5
Overall Experience: It was great! It was a perfect spot for a Mother-Daughter lunch. It had great food, cute detailing, and a relaxed atmosphere. 5/5

We headed out after our lunch and we went back to our resort. The bus took a little while to get there. There was only one other family on the bus besides us.

dsc06131e.jpg

We were sitting in those seats at the back of the bus where there are 2 seats facing forward and 2 seats facing backward. I was sitting on the outside, and I fell asleep on the way back... and I almost fell over! :lmao: I was really tired.

Mmmm the Plaza is one of my fave restaurants at WDW, it gets overlooked but it is so yummy and the desserts are huge!

I love the picture of the ducks, I always take pictures of ducks at disney.

Awesome pictures of Splash, and the carousel of Progress.

Can't wait for more:goodvibes

I agree! It's wonderful :goodvibes
Haha they're so cute... how can you not!?
And thank you! :wizard:

Oh, Splash Mountain <3 It totally is great just watching people go down before you. I always laugh at the ones who totally flip out and I just think to myself "Pffft... wimps" Hahaha I'm so mean :guilty: That's awesome you got your mom to go on. Splash Mountain is a must-do in Disney :goodvibes Love the little "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" notes at the end :)

The surprise Hidden Mickey near the PeopleMover is just so cute. I wonder who could've put it there. That is just so creative! I love the little sprinkles of pixie dust that you only see once. (: :thumbsup2 to riding Carousel of Progress, as Hagrid might say "Very misunderstood 'ride', very misunderstood", emphasis on the might ;)

I've never heard too much about to Plaza, but from what I've heard it's excellent, maybe I'll have to consider it. Those sandwiches look great! The Vegetarian one looks very enticing :goodvibes Even though I'm not a vegetarian, it looks nice.

Oh my gosh, there is like nobody ever on the AKL buses. I will never understand that :sad2: Though I'm glad that you don't have to worry about crowds for those buses (: And I see the frump in you came out on the ride home? Hehehehe ;)

Can't wait to read more! :mickeyjum

Bummer that the People Mover was closed, that's one of my disney favorites!

That banana split looks awesome, Im drooling looking at it.
