We are definitely of the "pack some underwear" in your carryon camp; and really in the "pack an outfit" in your carryon camp. We've only had one time where anyone had to have it mid-travel and that was when a Sprite exploded all over one of the boys in the Houston airport during a layover. Because he had a change of clothes, he was able to get cleaned up and not have to be wet and sticky for the rest of the trip.
That happened to my DD as well. She accidentally spilled the cup of sprite onto her lap. Thank goodness for the extra clothing in her carryon.
We started packing a change after a friend of ours was stuck in the middle seat and the old man next to him peed on himself and it got all over our friend - eeewwwwww.... and he didn't have a change with him AND his luggage didn't make it. Double-eewwwww...
eeewww!!!
I did pick up sunscreen and after-sun-soother for the trip because I've read a lot on cruise critic about being especially mindful of the Grecian sun.
A family friend, who grew up in Turkey and moved to California 15 years ago, cautioned our family to wear very light clothing (for example, linen shorts, dress, cotton clothing). She said that the sun is relentless.
We are also considering a Hawaiian cruise for next summer if we can get in at Aulani, so I've been reading up on them and the after-sun is something that is on nearly all of the packing tips I've seen. Hopefully it will be an "unused" item but at least we'll have it if we, or anyone we know, needs some.
We stayed at the Aulani when it first opened. It was so nice! Food is very expensive. We ate at each of the restaurants for experience, but the rest of the time, I just walked across to ABC market and purchase very inexpensive good meals. Then, brought it back. It saved my pocketbook.
Our FE's are done except for adding the cabin numbers for the GTYs that are getting their cabin assignments, so that will soon be checked off our list. I have a couple more name tags to do for the folks who have just signed on; I'll have these for everyone at the Meet/Greet on the first day - they just slip in your lanyard if you want. We got our door magnets done a few days ago, so I just need to take the ones off our front door that we want and add them to the "to be packed" box.
That's great! Thanks for making the nametags. This will be fun. The DDs are going to make their magnets ... they are old and I am curious as to what they will make.
whew - I feel like I have made progress
Gary and the boys just shake their heads when I say I don't want to wait til the last minute - they are like "but it's still over a month away" - they would wait til the day before we leave to even think about packing and that's when they'd find out they didn't have enough x, y, or z. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm working a full day the day before we leave and won't get home til about 7 PM and do NOT want to stay up til after midnight doing stuff that could have been done a couple of weeks in advance. And no last-minute-run to Walmart either.
That's ok. My DH thinks that I am too obsessive with the planning... but I am almost finished ...
just need to pack, print boarding passes, drop off our chocolate lab at my in-laws, and drive to the airport.
Yes, I know... it's not until June, but I do need a vacation. And yes, my DH and I have to work until the day before.
He's an architect and I am a recruiter.
