What is your not so normal item to pack, which is helpful while at WDW ?

Okay so.. statistically speaking, how often ARE bedbugs found in WDW hotels? I (ignorantly) thought they only existed in your seedier hotels and motels and have never even once thought to check for bedbugs, or take precautions against them, in a hotel I was staying in. Apparently, I was lucky. :confused3

Unfortunately bed bug cases are on the rise, as the chemical that was so good at killing them has been banned. It was pretty toxic for humans too, turns out. It is not an indication on how clean a resort is, as they can hitch-hike in the luggage holds on airplanes, or be brought into a resort any number of ways.

The best thing to do is to quickly inspect your room before you bring your luggage in. Look at the seams on the mattress, for anything that looks like little brown or black specks. Look at the headboard too. And to be on the safe side once you get back home leave your luggage outside of your house for a few days, especially if it is hot. Extreme heat will kill the little buggers.

What is the name of the product that you use for waterproof coating the mascara?

It's called waterproof mascara top coat by Urban Retreat. I got mine in the UK so not sure if that particular one is available internationally.

My friend and her Mom stayed at the Yacht club and they had to move rooms and have all their belongings treated with high heat because of evidence of bed bugs. Disney paid for new clothes as they weren't allowed to take anything, and I mean anything, out of the room or suitcases. In fact, they werent allowed back in the room at all.

I only read half the pages but didn't see this listed: a bunch of plastic grocery bags. I use fabric reusable ones at the grocer, but the plastic (disposable) are great for packing. I wrap my shoes shoes in them. They take up little space for us flyers, weigh nothing, cost nothing, and keep shoes from snagging or dirtying clothes, and they work well to put dirty clothes in later. I pack a bunch of extra ones too.

As for a snack in the park, we carry beef or turkey jerky. It provides protein, wont crumble to pieces, and won't spoil!

We also carry the crystal lite packets as well as propel packets to flavor water. You have to stay hydrated and these help cover the local flavors in the water at the parks.

I bring m&m tubes for same reason! :).

I also bring ziplock for everything. And a clear plastic envelop with snap on it for paper momentous to keep them flat and clean

AWESOME tip! For anyone collecting the smashed pennies, the Mentos Gum containers are just the right size to put them in. You can get a LOT of them in a container and you can peel the labels off and glue on a piece of paper with each child's name on it if you have more than one kiddo collecting them. Also keeps Mom or Dad from having a bunch of loose, smashed pennies in their purse/pocket/pack at the end of the day and small collectors arguing over whose are whose!

And on the Crystal Lite packets tip.... they make some that are labeled "Hydration" that will help replace the electrolytes you lose sweating in that toasty FL sunshine! Pedialyte also now makes a powdered mix packet.

I will never forget our first trip to Disney in 1999. Thank god we had rented a car because I made my husband drive to a supermarket for leave in conditioner after the second day. We live in the country and have well water so all the chlorine in the pools and showers etc. made my hair feel like straw after two days.

These are all wonderful ideas! I've started a list...now if I just remember where I put my list before I go in January 2013!

Never never never do this; these products don't work at all and they give you a false sense of security.:eek::eek: They can also be dangerous to yourself and others.

Infomercials and youtube commercials don't compare to actual hard evidence that nothing but heavy duty chemicals, extreme heat, or extreme cold kill bedbugs. Those chemicals are illegal for use in the US now because they are so toxic. If you buy stuff to "spray around" and kill bedbugs, you are just tossing money away. We actually sprayed a heavy duty bathroom cleaner with bleach on one bedbug and it didn't kill it.

Do a bedbug check of your room before moving in. Check all drawers and the floorboards, look in pillowcases and along the inside creases of the mattresses. Keep suitcases off the floor regardless; we don't even bring in our suitcases until we do a check.

Bedbugs are an epidemic at this point, and if there was something so unbelievably simple as a spray to kill them, you can bet there'd be no epidemic. Every hotel worth their salt would have stockpiles of the spray and it would be part of the sanitation of every room. As it is, there are still tons of bedbugs; they are EXTREMELY difficult to get rid of. No spray is gonna do it. Especially not once!

I agree! I don't want bedbugs but I don't want to stay in a room that has been sprayed with chemicals...safe or not.

This is sad and we make fun of ourselves all the time (as does the rest of the family) but my mom and I grab those round Mickey stickers whenever we can. We are spillers. We WILL spill on our shirts and sometimes Shout wipes and Tide pens don't do the trick. So we whip out a Mickey sticker and cover the evidence. Sometimes we look silly, but an oddly placed Mickey sticker looks a lot better than a big stain!

And when I'm at home and I spill (which is all the time) DH just looks at me and shouts "Mickey sticker"!

That is a wonderful idea! Let others make fun...you are the ones HAVING fun!

In case it has not been mentioned, Thermacare heat wraps!

The items that I bring with me are not your normal travel items - I bring my own souvenirs! You can buy Disney items almost everywhere. I try to get all of our pre-vacation items on clearance. It's not that I'm cheap - I don't mind spending a small a fortune on those special souvenirs at the parks that have a purpose (watches, Christmas ornaments, etc). The real fun about shopping ahead of time is surprising my family when we get to the resort!

I start shopping once I begin planning our trip, and usually do so over a period of many months. As I mentioned, I do it secretly from my husband and daughter. My goal is to fill my daughter's "Magical Mystery Suitcase"! I always begin by purchasing Disney T-shirts for everyone at the Disney Outlet online, or if I see some at Target or in the Disney store on clearance. I buy them one for each day. It usually ends up costing a lot less than regular t-shirts because I try to shop clearance only. I tuck them aside where no one can find them!

For our trip when my daughter was five and a half, I began shopping early and accumulated a ton of Disney stickers, papers, pencils and scrapbook items. We spent a good half day in the park on our first day. My daughter was a little upset about having to leave the park...that was until told her we had a surprise for her at the room. We opened the Magical Mystery suitcase! She was surprised to see all of the character t-shirts, and her eyes lit up at all of the stickers! She was content to work on her sticker "scrapbook" each day during our down time. We saved all of our maps, receipts, napkins, paper coasters and assorted Disney trinkets each day, which she faithfully added to her scrapbook. There was no crying when we left the park all hot and tired - she was anxious to get to the room so she could add her treasures to her scrapbook.

We returned when she was ten - same deal with the t-shirts. I purchased trading pins on ebay. I got her a bunch of cheapie pins for her to trade with cast members, and I bought "special" pins that I held aside and disbursed throughout the week for specific events. I had planned a parasailing adventure for her at Sammy Duvall's Watersports behind the Contemporary. She didn't know until we checked in at the dock. I had a corresponding Minnie parasailing pin for the event! Same thing with horseback riding at Fort Wilderness - secret event and corresponding pin. I also got her a Port Orleans pin (our resort), a Polynesian pin (we had diner reservations there), well...you get the idea!

We're heading back at the end of August. She's 14 now. I bought the t-shirts already. I have pins for our events (dinner at Cinderella's Royal Table - staying at Wilderness Lodge, etc). I purchased 4 field books about Imagineering at the park (she's starting high school this year and is quite the math nerd), and a Hidden Mickey guide. Tickets go on sale this weekend for an event at the House of Blues during our trip. It's one of my husbands favorite artists. The event is appropriate for all ages so we're going as a family. I will be ordering "concert" shirts for both of them (shhh...don't tell).

The Magical Mystery suitcase has become a tradition. Other items that I have tucked in included personalized autograph books, mickey hair scrunchies, PJs, etc. I notice that we don't spend nearly as much time (or as much money) in the shops since we have all of our "new stuff" already. I enjoy all of the planning that goes into it! It adds something special to an already magical vacation!

LOVE the magical mystery suitcase. I told DH and we had to go to the Disney store today (over an hour) to start it. Lucked out with a huge sale! Plush Holley Stickwell for $3.99! This is going to save us a bundle at the parks and be fun while doing it!

My not so normal item to take: glucose tabs in case of low blood sugar (though will have to get dole whips instead) :) .. Also 2 lanyards DH got at various conferences: we put the photo pass where the name tag usually goes, credit card, kttw and some money in the zippered part. Its not a Disney lanyard, but I figure I can figure something out to disney-fy them ;)
