OP here, and I just wanted to say thanks again for the ideas! I am completely finished so I thought I'd post what we decided to buy. Maybe it will help someone else (or not)!

The strangest thing we bought her: the Lambie Doc McStuffins doll that you work on. Very strange request but she went head over hills for it when she saw it at Target. Whatever works .

DD will be 10 in a couple of weeks. She is into Littlest Pet Shop and My Little Pony. She has asked for the Canterlot Castle, so we will get her that. Grandparents are getting her LPS stuff. She is also getting books 1-6 of the Warrior Cats series. We might get her roller skates for her birthday. We are price-comparing those.
Last year she got two AG dolls and a bunch of clothes. This year she is no longer interested in them.

We're trying to focus on experiences this year instead of toys that they won't play with. Our oldest will be 9 in January. As a family, we're getting tickets to Lion King on Broadway and Sic Flags season passes. I might also buy day tickets to a local indoor water park.

As for physical gifts, I got her Disney sheet music for the flute and for the piano. She's into computer programming, so we got her a Raspberry Pi. I'm not even sure what it is, butch says it's a computer that he can build with her. Ok, honey. Whatever you say lol.
