Just my 8 yr old niece and me...so we maybe took less advantage of the options than others may have!

-Resort - GF
-Upgraded from: Garden View
-Upgraded to: Water View
-Special occasion (if any): none

In both cases, my only request was to be on the top floor. Love that Mickey Magic! :tink:

Resort: Port Orleans Riverside
Booked: Standard View
Upgraded to: Water View
Reason/Celebrations: We were assigned a room, but when we went to the room it still had other people's luggage in there. I was glad it happened to us because we are honest and the people had left what looked like a good bit of cash laying on the table. We went back to the front desk and told them about the room being occupied. Apparently the family had extended their stay that morning, but it hadn't gotten updated in the computer system correctly. We were upgraded because of the confusion.

Resort: Polynesian
Booked: Garden View
Upgraded to: Garden View Concierge Level
Reason/Celebrations: We weren't celebrating anything, just happy to be at WDW. It was totally random. :)

Never asked for an upgrade. I never make room requests. I  Disney!

I have that theory too about making room requests! I am so torn as to whether to make them on my next trip, but I've always lucked out with a great room, even if I don't get upgraded, without a request.
We have that theory too! Not that people who request don't get pixie dust too, but I have wondered if maybe they work to give those that make requests exactly what they ask for and then the pixie dust goes to someone who didn't specify anything. We've always gotten great rooms and had a magical time!

-Resort: CR
-Upgraded from: Standard
-Upgraded to: CL Castle View 12th Floor
-Special occasion (if any): no special occasion

Had no idea we were being upgraded until we went to our room. I do not know why it happened but was so glad it did!

Oh my goodness! I'm staying at CR next month and I would be in heaven if I received this upgrade! :cloud9: I know it's unlikely, but you never know. I just hope I didn't hurt my chances by making room requests :confused3

GREAT thread by the way! I hope I'll have something to add to it!

Resort: CSR
Upgraded From: Standard View
Upgraded To: Water View-lake. Corner room (two windows!)
Occasion: Nothing noted on ressie. Mentioned it was kids's first visit during check-in.

My upgrade might not sound like much, but I was THRILLED! :woohoo:

when you check in do they say you have been up graded or do you find out when you go to your room and it's nicer then you were expecting it to be? This is my 7th trip (staying on at WDW) I'm hoping it's lucky #7 for an up grade.
I will be on the plane 3 weeks from right now!!:cool1:

-Resort: BC/July 2009
-Upgraded from: Standard
-Upgraded to: Club Level/Water View

We didn't even make it to the front desk when we were pulled aside and told to wait a few minutes. We were then escorted up to CL where we learned we had been upgraded. It was an amazing suprise!

Some of both. :) We were told both times that we were upgraded, but I've heard many stories of people that didn't know until they walked into their room.

-Resort: Contemporary
-Upgraded from: Garden Wing
-Upgraded to: Tower, Bay Lake View
-Special occasion (if any): none

We were scheduled to spend one night at CR before moving to AKL. When we checked in at CR, they told us about the surprise upgrade! Pixie dust was all around that day and night, and we loved CR so much, DH called that night to find out if we could spend the rest of our week there instead of AKL. No luck, they were totally booked.

When he went downstairs to ask again the next morning (so I wouldn't know) they not only had been able to find us a room but it was the same room (no moving) AND they gave it to us at the AKL price!

That entire trip was full of pixie dust from dinner reservations coming open to interactions with characters to magical moments everywhere we looked. I'm almost afraid to stay at CR again because I don't think anything can ever top that romantic getaway!

Wow!!!!! Some great upgrades!!!! Congrats!!!!! I always enjoy reading all of the magic!!!

Just maybe a pinch of pixie dust for us! ;) If not, I am totaly happy to be going to Disney 2 weeks from today!!!!!:lovestruc Hoping my DD's health hangs in there!!!!:goodvibes

It was a dream upgrade! You can read about it and see the gorgeous view in my TR.

-Resort: Grand Floridian
-Upgraded from: Lagoon view
-Upgraded to:Club Level-Royal Palm Club (Main Building), TPV
-Special occasion (if any): None. My 30th birthday was a few weeks later, though!

Booked a March trip in January for lagoon view at Grand Floridian, 5 days/4 nights. Heard on DisBoards a few weeks later that you could call and ask if there was a pin in your name. First time I tried, no pin. Called back a few days later, there WAS a pin this time, but all the lagoon views were sold out with that discount. :sad1:

However, the guy said instead of taking 40% off my room, he could take 20% off the room, and give me a free upgrade to RPC, with a direct view of the castle. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

It was amazing. It was my partner's first trip to WDW, and now he thinks that every room is like that one!

CSR standard view
Upgraded to water view once
Upgraded to waterview corner room once....
FW not a room but still an upgrade.... regular site to premium site on the "best " loop , one of my favorite WDW trips ever....

Resort: Grand Floridian

Upgraded to: club level, lagoon view room in the main building (one of the tower rooms!)
Special occasion: Honeymoon (and it was the YOAMD)

Bump!

when you check in do they say you have been up graded or do you find out when you go to your room and it's nicer then you were expecting it to be?

For the most part, we've found out when we got to our room. I think thats the best because you aren't expecting it at all!

On our HM, we were told partly, which was a good thing because they tried to give us a king. We needed doubles because we had friends coming later in the trip (it was a follow up to Hawaii- so we were ok getting company at that point, haha.) She told us that she'd like to give us a king room and comp. the parking fee. Then, we were surprised when we got to the room and it was a balcony overlooking the ToT- my favorite ride!! The manager also brought up champagne later in our stay.

We have had both. Most of our upgrades they would begin to show us on the map and I would know what we were just given. Others have said, "oh, you have been upgraded". I have also been given a standard room and just really wanted a different standard location and they would upgrade us to give us more of what we want. Like at AKL I really wanted a standard view on the wing of the pool side and they gave us SV on the wing with the pool.

Hope this helps. One thing I have noticed is people that get upgrades don't put in requests. I think they may look at it like they requested that room/ buliding/section for a reason and they don't want to be in another area.
