Ok...we all know two things about upgrades:
1. Don't ever expect one.
2. Don't ever ask for one.
3. They are the result of powerful pixie dust

Still, I love to read about the upgrades others have received. So, please tell!

It was so completely unexpected and meant the world. Made the trip very special. It was in October in the off season but during Food and Wine. I wonder if the time of year thus how crowded the hotel is has anything to do with it? Thoughts?

I'm not sure...sometimes there are upgrades during crowded times because they overbooked lower level rooms. I guess you're more likely to get an upgrade during a busy time because they have to give you one and you're more likely in a slow time because they want to give you one.

I have a theory that Dolphin gives more upgrades than Swan...thats why we switched, haha. I like the Swan more. Also, the Swan doesn't have the views like the Dolphin does.

I have that theory too about making room requests! I am so torn as to whether to make them on my next trip, but I've always lucked out with a great room, even if I don't get upgraded, without a request.

Had no idea we were being upgraded until we went to our room. I do not know why it happened but was so glad it did!

Occasion: Spring break.
SOG was booked, so we got an overflow rate at Coranado Springs. At check-in, we were asked if we would mind staying at the Yacht Club instead...heck no!
(heard when I got back that Marie Osmond and company showed up and needed a few rooms. )
However, now I am DYING to stay there at a time I can enjoy the pool, but can never justify $300 a night. Bummer!

Upgraded from: Atrium Club Standard room.
Upgraded to: Tower Club Standard room.

This upgraded happened in May 2000 and back then the Atrium Club was not a full time Club Level floor in terms of food offerings and total hours of service from the Cast Members the way it is today, so at the time this was a major upgrade and we were told about this at check-in.

Resort: Polynesian.
Upgraded from: Garden View Club Level.
Upgraded to: Lagoon View Club Level.

This upgrade hapened in December 2007 and we actually knew about it a few days before arriving, because WDW sent us a brand new room confirmation and when I viewed our reservation online it said the new room information. So when we checked in we didn't bring it up that we already knew and the Cast Member said we have been upgraded.

- standard view to best view there! full center view of bay from balcony - again did not know we were getting an upgrade until we arrived in the room
-occasion: I took my DS, DDIL, and DGD2 on their first trip to WDW - we were all dizzy with excitement

Resort: AKL
- standard view to savannah view - no special occasion.

I have been so incredibly lucky and received such Great pixie dust! Never asked for it. Have just been happy and excited to be there.

This is a 2-step upgrade. We originally were booked for courtyard and had an AP discount rate because no std. was avail. Then I rebooked down to a woods view when it became avail. Then I rebooked down to a std. view when it became avail. In the end, we ended up with the courtyard view and here it is:

and for those having an ahhhh moment looking at pics of WL, here's the view from the 3rd floor public balcony w/rocking chairs to sit and watch the ELP on the lake, just past the pool.
