TIW price increase for DVC...

I was just coming here to post this, thank you for beating me to it :)!

I think that if you have two people and two trips per year, TIW is no longer worthwhile to consider. For four people or more and over two trips, maybe. Ugh.

Boo......need to recalculate and see if it is still worth it for 2 of us.
Maybe I just need to add more table service ;)

I completely agree! We were going to try it in November for two of us. Now I think we will pass :sad1:

So is it immediate or does it increase January 1? I will be there in December and was hoping to purchase it then.

Wow, huge increase. We were on the fence but decided recently to purchase next month. Will not be buying it now.

According to the email we received, it says that it is effective today, October 4th. I second the "Ugh." There are two of us, and even if we have up to three trips per year, it will now make more sense to just use the 10% DVC discount that we already get at most restaurants.

We should note, though, that this increase is not just for DVC members, so we are not being singled out. It looks like this is the price for everyone buying the program.

I had just decided to buy it in December. Normally we are at WDW right now for fall break but we decided to take a Christmas trip instead. What great timing I have!

Did the email come from TIW or DVC? I didn't get an email so I take it that it came from TIW since I'm not on their mailing list.

Well, this really stinks. Breakeven is now $750 and I don't think we can justify the cost any longer. I have found that we avoided off property restaurants because we wanted to take advantage of TIW. Also, we tended to splurge more on the more expensive places like California Grill because of the discounts. I think that all will end now :(

I got no e-mail from anyone, and I am a TIW cardholder, DVC member, AP holder. A 50% increase with no warning and not ability to react is ridiculous.
I agree. A 50% increase is ridiculous and outrageous really.
But they can obviously set what price they want. Will be interesting to see if it costs Disney on the long run.

What really angers me about this, is the vicious cycle it creates. Everyone will complain the card is not worth it now, and there will be a dip in sales. So how will Disney combat the problem? Raise meal prices, so TIW will be worth it again.
Sadly, I suspect your anger will be justified going forward. Add that increase to the new prices for APs that were just released, and there are two more reasons to scale back our visits to the World.

Funny just looking yesterday and trying to decide if when we get there in a few weeks to buy.... the answer now is a resounding NO! will just eat at a few non Disney restaurants were we can get 10% and eat off property where it is cheaper.... there are a bunch not that far away.

I think most people can understand occasional increases but this is excessive and comes across as a bit offensive. It is almost like they are signaling they plan to get rid of it and this is a big step in that direction.
