So if I purchase our AP's tomorrow and activate in November, they will expire a year from tomorrow or a year from November?
Forgive me, but the special $199, 3 day park hoppers are only good until May 28th, right? Or is that just the purchase deadline. TIA
I already bought 3 day park hoppers and paid for our hotel for our trip at the end of August. We were planning on upgrading to APs, with 5 nights in hotel and 4 days in park. Now that prices are going up we'll need more money than originally thought and idk what we're going to do. So stressful!
Yes. I've done this myself several times to avoid price increases.
There are two questions unanswered right now because DL has recently changed its online AP system:
1. Are the regular APs sold online "pre-activated" (and thus expire a year from the date of purchase), or are they activated when you take them to the park? I don't know for sure, and for that reason I recommend buying the "gift voucher" option just to be safe. Then take the voucher to DL and exchange it for a new AP whenever you are ready to start using your new AP.
2. Most sources are telling me the AP vouchers can be exchanged for a year without paying an upcharge. One source says the upcharge applies after the end of the calendar year.
Both are fairly minor issues. If I had an AP expiring in August and definitely wanted to "renew" it, I would buy a "gift voucher" for a new pass now, before the price goes up. Losing the renewal discount is nothing compared with these AP price increases!

Well....
We did it!! I just bought the online passes. I did NOT buy vouchers. The terms and conditions said this:
5.A new Annual Passport expires 1-year from the first date of entry into a Disneyland® Resort Theme Park. A renewed Annual Passport expires on the anniversary date of the original Passport.
I've been checking the Dis daily in anticipation of news of this increase. I'm so glad I did.
and
Now I am stressed. I am getting of work at 1:30 tomorrow and we were going to drive 9 hours to DLR after. First day in the park is Sunday. I was going to upgrade my parkhopper to premium sometime that day. Now I HAVE to get to the ticket booth by midnight tomorrow or pay way way more. Ugh. Nothing can go wrong tomorrow.
Well,,,looks like this will be our last trip to Disneyland.
and please don't give me this,"It's sooo worth it". No it aint.
I guess after our July trip, we'll be sticking with WDW for a while.
Regarding the passports expiration dates:
I purchased my passes online on June 10, 2011 and did not use the passports until June 15/16. My passports expire on June 10, 2012.
I believed that the passports would not become "activated", until used, but for me that is not true.
I'm just stating my own experience, I'm not sure if this is an error.
I believe that even if you already own an AP, the idea is you purchase as a new passport, and it will just get activated as a new passport # letting your old one expire. All you lose is the $20 discount.
