Day 1, Part 1 - Look Out Mickey, Here We Come
Thanks for sticking with me everyone. I'm back on my feet (sort of) and life goes on, right?
When I left you last I was shutting down the computer and heading for bed anticipating a very, very early departure from home to head to the border.
Well....I was thinking I should be able to get about 6 hours of sleep which is quite a lot for me seeing as I am a very bad sleeper and I figured a good sleep would be the best way to start off a very busy holiday.
Remember that Disney commercial "I'm too excited to sleep!"?
Ya, that was me.
I set the alarm for 5am because we had to be on the road at 530am. I had already packed the truck and the girls were ready to jump into the clothes beside their beds. I just had to get up, get dressed, brush my teeth, have my coffee and jump into the truck with the girls.
Or I could still be awake at 415am.
Oh yes, I started my vacation on less then 45 mins of sleep and I had a long day ahead of me.
Time for an extra cup or 3 of coffee.
Anywho....got up, loaded up and headed for the border. We were lucky and there were only 4 cars ahead of us in the line up! Go us!
Got through and headed to Sonic for breakfast. Except none of us eat breakfast foods so we had cheese sticks, tots, burgers and slushies for breakfast. Don't judge me! lol!
Next stop - airport!
Parked, headed into the airport and got lectured by the guy at the check in counter. Apparently if you have to check bags you are not under any circumstances to check in online ahead of time. Who knew?
After I was finished being reamed out and our bags had been checked I got a coffee and we sat down to wait for a bit.
Stayed there for a few then went through security to wait by the gate.
I'm happy to announce that the airport has done some serious renos since I was there last. Used to be that you had to wait out in a portable out on the tarmac but not any more! Its quite lovely now.
Before we knew it, it was time to climb the ramp and board our plane. Love that about Bellingham - you actually walk outside onto the tarmac and get onto the plane out there just like in old movies! lol! Yes, I'm a geek.
Made the girls touch the outside of the plane as we got on. Its a long story - you can read about it in my previous trippie (link is in my siggie and yes, I'm still pimping that thing out). They rolled their eyes but humored me anyways.
We had an "incident" on the aircraft as everyone was boarding and no, it wasn't me.
The couple in front of me was having a "disagreement" with the flight attendant about the proper use of a car seat on an aircraft and they were not going to back down. Its a long and ugly story that resulted in the ramp crew having to come onboard to provide back up for the flight attendant. They were "escorted" off the plane complete with foul language and death threats towards everyone on the plane. I wanted to hug the poor flight attendant. She was so good during the whole thing. She was kind and listened to them and was explaining the reasoning behind the rules and was firm about following them all the while these 2 were just horrible to her.
After these 2 got the boot we were off! A wee bit late but that wasn't the crew's fault - it was these dumb, dumb's fault.
Girls on the plane
Tink and I on the plane
Just as soon as we got up in the air it seems that the early morning caught up with my girlies and this was the result
I was hoping to sleep as well but as anyone who knows me knows, I am NOT a good flier so that was out of the question.
Soon nap time was over and this ensued
Nah, they were just playing. They know better then to misbehave in public! lol!
Look! California mountains!
More to come....
