The Future of Epcot...

I personally think they never should have gotten rid of horizons. Mission Space doesn't hold up. Maybe they could use the Mission Space building, and make a ride with a horizons-like omnimover ride system with the screens , ending, and que, and have it be all about the future of space exploration and the possibility of living in space, and the other planet that is like earth, and mars having water etc. I think it would be fun, a new relic of the old style of EPCOT and maybe they could bring back the old Horizons theme......

It is frustrating there aren't more concrete plans for updating Future World beyond the Soarin' upgrade. Can't see anything happening till after all the updates to HS..so what's that? 10+ years at least before there's a possibility of improvements?
Likely looking at after 2021 for major updates but smaller things here and there are likely.

I see this comment that the WS countries are just homogenized versions of the real places so often. I can't see it being any other way. All of WDW is really that way if you think about. Everything is cleaned up and shiny and totally not representative of real life.

I enjoy these versions though. I like the representations (even if overly shiny) of real places and the shops and the CM's and even the food as Americanized as it is. I'm certainly aware that it's not the same as traveling to these places but it's still a slice of another place. I think that this is one reason that the changes in Norway struck such a sour note with me. Representing Norway with a fairy tale land is even more about fantasy and to me not welcome. But that's another topic.

I mostly mention the "shallow" aspect to counterbalance what I see as an overemphasis on the supposed educational aspects. I like visiting France in Epcot. The architecture is great, the food is nice, it's fun. It's not France.

World Showcase is commerce first, entertainment second and education third and shouldn't really be presented as anything else. But what more could you reasonably expect from a theme park?

I think MissionSpace holds up just fine. It could use a refurb in the next five years but it's a fun ride. One of my faves. There are other spots at EPCOT that deserve the attention of Imagineering way before MS.

I agree that there are other places that need work first but we can't all enjoy Mission Space. :crazy2:

I heard a rumor from 2 different people, one close to a Disney Exec., and the other has a partner that is an Imagineer. Epcot will be receiving 6 more countries and that Brazil is one of them.
Also from the same people, Hollywood Studios will get a Cars Land. No doubt about it.

Oh ya, well my uncles dad's stepmom works for Nintendo and told me that the Super Nintendo 5000 is coming out this Christmas, but they are only selling it at 7-Eleven in unmarked white boxes. You have to go in and say the code word to purchase it. If you are the first one you get to play as sonic the hedgehog.

I assume you're kidding. But two more countries would be welcome. I think you could get a country in the Outpost and I would replace the American Adventure with a foreign country. I would replace them with Brazil/Chile and India.
As for Future World, putting something in the closed Horizons Pavilion seems like the obvious first step. Then I'd change Universe of Energy to something a little more up to date. Finally, get rid of Captain EO and fire whoever decided to reopen it.

I think changing FW to a Star Wars expansion with a train to DS is about as likely as digging a tunnel through the center of the earth to connect the Japan Pavilion in WS with Tokyo Disneyland.

I'm not kidding. Heard it from two reliable people. One of which told me about Star Wars Land a year before any announcement.

Anybody and everybody knew Star Wars land was coming it was just a matter of when will it finally be announced.

Here's this from about a year before.

This came after intense teasing from Disney at D23 in 2013. I know better then to completely discount what you're saying, but be cautious when hearing rumors that involve new countries at Epcot. That's always a red flag.

Than again I could be wrong, we'll see. If so you should totally come back here and rub it in our faces for years to come. ;)

Here's my completely ridiculous, grossly expensive, and guaranteed to tick off a good deal of people, but also draw in tons more people idea:

Leave World Showcase as is, except maybe expand (if possible) to add a few more countries and restaurants. That's the easy part. Here comes the meat and potatoes. Be prepared to love or absolutely hate this idea.

Completely revamp the rest of Epcot into a massive extension of the Star Wars expansion at DHS. Redo Spaceship Earth into the Death Star. Turn the interior into a recreation of the hangar bay scene from A New Hope with vehicle props. Maybe have a section of the Millenium Falcon that you could go up into and tour around. Have a large cinematic screen where the hanger bay doors would be that would be able to play a loop of Imperial ships flying around outside to add to the atmosphere. Re-imagine Future World as Mos Eisley or Mos Espa, or a similar port with Star Wars themed shops and at least one big-draw Star Wars themed TS (or signature) restaurant and some CS options, and at least one bar/cantina with various animatronic and costumed aliens inhabiting some of the spots. Change Soarin' from a flight through California to a Snow Speeder flight through Hoth with some flying through the battles with the AT-ATs. Change Nemo to a ride on a bongo through the oceans and core of Naboo. Change Test Track to a speeder bike run through Endor. Add more character meets. Here's the big one: build a train that connects the Mos Espa in Epcot to Mos Eisley in Hollywood Studios. Have the train cars set up like the Harry Potter train at Universal, where each of the cars has enclosed areas that are mocked up like the cockpit of the Millenium Falcon, and the ride between the two parks is a cinematic adventure where you escape the port, outrun the Imperial fleet, jump into hyperspace, and eventually arrive at DHS in the Mos Eisley section of the Star Wars area. During the "flight" over, you're escorted by X-Wings and A-Wings that take out TIE Fighters and clear your departure and arrival points.

It would alienate a certain amount of people, to be sure. It would also drawn in a ton of Star Wars fans and become a mecca to all things Star Wars. The Falcon run between Epcot and DHS would potentially increase park hopper pass sales just for the access to that ride. Sometimes you gotta spend money to print money.
Might sound ridiculous to some but I think many of your ideas have a bunch of merit! I do realize that this is off the grid of what Walt had in mind but so is the current Epcot! I would love to see some fresh thinking in some of the new Immagineers!!! If you get on don't forget me!

While I'd love to have a bunch of new countries, I'd still be really surprised. At this point, even one country would shock me given how long it's been.

They need to take the ellens entergy building or captain eo and turn it into a large Frozen Restaurant. DHS would also be a great place for one!

Please, no more Frozen in Epcot. It is already going to have too big a presence in the World Showcase as it is. By all means, put one in DHS or MK, but it has nothing to do with the main themes of Epcot and would be the wrong place for it.

Captain EO does need to go though, it seems like wasted space at the moment. Not sure about Ellen's Energy Adventure, it can be a nice break from the heat in the summer months, even if it is a little on the long side.

Epcot...I know it was the best field trip to go on in elementary school, compared with the zoo, or the box factory. However, as a paying adult, I have only been one time with my family to see the new future world. Kids loved Nemo and the living seas. After that, I found the rest disappointing. Not a fan of TT, Soarin, or Mission to Mars. To me, I guess, there is not much they could do short of gutting the entire park and starting over. Leave Mexico, that's the most immersive country experience, IMO. The rest are bore fests. Put some rides in there! Use some current technology. Make kids interested. Make adults interested. Or drop the price to $60...Now I'm dreaming.
