Okay this is my first report. I know already I'm gonna ramble on with useless details. I also know a day or so after I post something, I'll remember something I forgot to put in. LOL! We can't have internet at work due to security issues so I've been writing my trip report at work, printing it out and now I have to retype it. It's late, I need sleep but I want to get this started! I'm still playing catch up on everything at home and work since getting back from vacation.
The DF and I were in Disney from Sept. 9-16. He's 50, I'm 39. We went during this same week last year. We stayed at POFQ last year and this year. I've successfully converted him into a WDW nut like me. Well, he's not quite there yet, but he's hooked!!
Mission accomplished!
Here goes...
We took Southwest. We got to the airport around 8:00 a.m. for our 9:50 a.m. flight. I had my laptop with me, so to kill time while waiting in the airport and since they had wireless service, I sent some emails to friends and family members. It was finally time to board. The flight was okay, just a lot of turbulence. They kept the seatbelt light on the entire flight. When we landed, one of the male flight attendants sang a very funny song for us. We all got off the plane laughing telling him while it was very entertaining, he probably shouldn't quit his day job.
We were using the Magical Express service like we did last year but this year there was no CMs with a big Mickey hand waiting for us when we disembarked. We had to find the ME location ourselves. We get checked in with them and get into the POFQ bus line. They send us to board our bus and it isn't the ME bus like it was last year. For some reason they had us board a Disney Cruise Lines bus. :
I just noticed that this lady is wearing lime green! I wonder if she's one of us??!! (I didn't even notice when I took the picture) I also see a girl with a lime green hoodie on the bus stairs! I must not have had enough coffee when I took that picture!
I thought it was kind of tacky that each of the monitors on the bus had stickers that said "Gratuity appreciated" - I noticed when we disembarked at POFQ I was the only one to tip the driver. I also noticed on the ME bus back to the airport at the end of our trip, the stickers on the bus we were on had all been torn off.
We arrived at POFQ and got checked in. They told us at the desk that we had packages that arrived (our spring water from Staples!) I thought it was pretty cool that we didn't even have to inquire about it - they told us! They said the packages would be delivered to our room right away. While we were checking in, I asked if any of my requests were possible - such as being close to the pool or food court, first floor and corner room. We got building 6 (like we had last year) and first floor. He said they had no corner rooms and we started talking about corner rooms. I said we wanted it for the extra windows that provide more light - but the CM at the desk said the corner rooms have the same amount of windows as the other rooms. I knew he was blatantly wrong but I just let it go. It was too soon in the trip!
We go up to the room and the first thing I do is put the LGMHPCs in the window. I had to explain to the DF what it was all about. He thinks I'm crazy, but he does think that this whole LGMHPCs Dis board cult thing is kinda cool.
The spring water was delivered within 20 minutes and the really nice CM wouldn't take a tip from me. I asked if a lot of people have things delivered and he said sure they do - its his job to deliver the stuff and it keeps him busy.
I wanted to freshen up before going out to hit the parks but my makeup and perfume and stuff was in the luggage which took about 2 hours to be delivered to us via ME. Last year we got it within a half hour. I was spoiled! I found that all around, the ME service was much better last year. Which is kinda strange cuz you think things would improve with age (?) While I was waiting for the luggage, the DF went down to the store and picked up some alcoholic beverages for our fridge and then went and hung by Mardi Grogs for a little bit. He also stopped by the Concierge desk and booked some ADRs for us as we hadn't made any ADR's yet. He booked us in the Hoop Dee Doo, Mama Melroses, Crystal Palace and O'Hana's for dinner. He was even sure to mention that I was a vegetarian (I do eat a limited amount of fish) Since HDD was our first ADR, I rec'd. a message on the room voice mail giving a number to call the next morning and speaking with the chef about what my meal options were. How efficient!!
We (finally) left the room and got a bus to Epcot. Our destination was Mexico to the La Cantina for nachos and frozen Margaritas. It started to rain so we just took a bus back to the hotel. Our buddy Elliot Dyson who normally plays the Scat Cat Lounge Wed - Sat was out of town. He emailed us prior to our trip to let us know his schedule. The guy who was filling in for him (not sure of his name and the bartender wasn't sure either as this guy hardly ever fills in cuz Elliot is always there) was late going on. We asked why and it turns out his "tech" hadn't showed up to set up his equipment. It was already after 8:30 (show was supposed to start at 8:00) so we decided to walk over to POR and catch Bob Jackson. He was great - he must drink more coffee than me because he was incredibly hyper for that time of night. His show was good and all, but just a bit loud and rowdy for me for that time of night. I'd rather relax and unwind than get all hyper again. Due to the rain, he had a huge crowd and he does a lot of interaction with the audience. Lots of kids, too.
The DF and I sat at the bar and had beers. We were getting hungry so we ordered the crab cake bites appetizer. We had to laugh at the portion when it was brought out. It was so...well, lets just say "cute" for the price. It was like $9.49 or something.
They were very good, I just wish there was more of them. We were still hungry after we ate them so we walked back to our hotel and the DF got a bacon double cheeseburger with fries and I got a veggie burger with fries from our food court and took them back to our room to eat. I grabbed a coffee refill in the POFQ mugs we bought and I signed online and hung out until I was tired. So that was Day 1 of our trip.
