Ssshhhh This Time It's A Secret! Dec 2015 pre-trip report

I just ordered our lunch for Be Our Guest. Who knew that ordering lunch could make me so happy. I probably wouldn't be as excited if I ordered it there, so I really like this pre-order idea. I like even more that we will have a shorter wait.

Thanks for reminding me! Will have to get the family to make this decision on the weekend.

Well, today Hope got her scoliosis brace. She only had to wear it for two hours today. An hour after she put it on we had to take it off. The thing hurts her. You moms understand how much that hurts me.

She did her second hour while reading Kingdom Keepers. I'm really wondering if we just should have waited until after the trip to start with this. But it's too late to turn back now. What I need to focus on is getting her used to wearing it and build up to trying to get her to go for a long walk with it on.

In her first hour of wearing it, she asked me how she was going to be able to go on long car trips because we might go to Ohio next year. In 3 weeks she will be wearing it for the 11-12 hour drive to Orlando. All I can do is pray she adjusts quickly.

For autographs I am bringing Christmas ornaments and a pillowcase.

I've decided to sew Hope's pillowcase.

I've never sewn a pillowcase before, but I watched someone do it. I'll post pics of how it turns out. If it turns out bad, I'll go buy one. :faint:

Between Hope's dentist appointment and getting her brace we went to Hobby Lobby and I got a fabric pen. Yay a fabric pen. I know it's silly, but I love buying little things for the trip. Hope just thought it was a marker. I'm not sure why she didn't question the purchase since we have a bunch of black sharpies. I'm glad she didn't!

Is it possible to at this point just say we'll take a break from it while we are gone? Or even "Let's just try this again in a few weeks." (AkA When you get back)

I'm thinking about not telling her I have an ADR there (even after I tell her about the trip.) It's on our last day!

::yes::

Not really. It's super hard to get an appointment with the specialist she sees. We have an appointment with him on the 2nd and she should be wearing it full time by then. She has to get xrays with it on to see how much it's helping. The good news is she slept in it last night. I was concerned she would have trouble sleeping with it on. She's tough and she's been through a lot, so I'm pretty confident she can handle this.

I've decided that if walking around a lot, aka Disney, makes her hurt more/again then I will get her a GAC and she will sit somewhere and rest while we wait for it to be time for us to ride.

Good morning everyone! Today is my birthday! And we are on page 14 (which is the day of my birthday.) :bday:

Dave & Hope are gone all day to take a class. That means today I am heat pressing shirts and the pillowcase I made last night.

Also, I will pack our shirts, socks, underwear, pjs, toiletries & swim gear. :cool1:

I have to pack a small back for our first nights stay. And I'll probably put all the swim stuff in it's own bag. I can decide a couple of days before we go if I should take it. These deep south Louisiana people do not like to swim when it's cold. :scared:

So that's it, I'm off to get lots done while they are gone. On my birthday. Pixie Dust for me.

Here are some pics of the pillowcase I made.

This is after I sewed the trim.

This is the finished product (minus the vinyl.)

And here is a close up of the trim.

Hopefully it will look better one the vinyl is on and the wrinkles are out.

Here is the finished product.

The vinyl came out way bigger than I designed it. I'm not sure what happened, but it looks okay.

I also had shirt issues.

A letter on Dave's didn't stick to the shirt.

The shirt I made for me is too small.

Oh well, we're going to Disney!

Things are not going so well with the brace. It doesn't really hurt that much anymore and she doesn't complain about it, but my biggest fear looks like it's going to be a problem. She can't eat in the thing. She isn't hungry and her stomach hurts. She is already super thin and I can't afford for her to lose weight. She normally eats breakfast about 30 mins after getting out of bed, followed by a second breakfast. Sometimes she has a snack after breakfast and if she doesn't, she is ready for lunch around 10:30-11:00. On average I'd say she has 2 snacks between lunch and supper and then a snack after supper.

We had co op today and she wore the brace there. She ate her first breakfast and 1/6th of her lunch. Even an hour after she took the brace off she couldn't eat. I really do know what I'm going to do at Disney.

I'm hoping that this is just part of the adjustment period and once she gets used of wearing it things will get better. But I'm not really convinced of this. I've already decided to have her take it off for her 3 main meals at home. I guess we will be taking it off at Disney as well.

Tomorrow we will be home, so maybe it will be better.

Sorry to dump all of this here. I'm just worried about my baby and our trip.

Can you call the dr and talk to you them about it and advice for your trip?

How many hours a day is she supposed to wear the brace?

Love the pillow case, it's adorable!!!

So sorry to hear about the brace and all the issues it is bringing, that would really stress me out. Sending positive thoughts that it will all work out.

I'm sorry to hear she is having so much trouble with the brace. I agree that maybe a talk with the doc is in order it is stopping her from eating.

The orthotist said to give it a week before we make any sort of adjustments. We will see the orthotist and the doctor before the trip.

She just got it last Thursday and had to wear it 2 hours that day. We are suppose to increase each day until we get to 22 hours. It should take about 2 weeks to get to that point.

Thanks and thanks and thanks some more!

This to me would be a giant red flag even removing Disney from the equation. This sounds like you need to talk with the doctor and soon.

I think she overdid it yesterday. It was too much too soon. Today I took if off as soon as I woke and didn't put it back on until after breakfast (for a couple hours.) She is now wearing it again for 2-3 hours since it is after lunch time. We are also trying ensure/boost/protein shakes to make sure she gets what she needs. We have a friend (child, slightly older than Hope) that has been in the brace for 3 years and has lost 10 lbs.

Today is a much better day. I'm not sure what we will do when she has to wear it more, but hopefully her body will adjust. We can't have her not eating, but not wearing the brace will lead to back surgery and other issues. It's crazy trying to find the right balance.

I just want to thank you guys for your concern. It warms my heart. Today Hope easily ate 'first' breakfast and ate well for lunch. It's still less than her normal (because she didn't eat second breakfast or a snack), but a big improvement on yesterday. We will look into options for keeping her weight up as well as look for something that may help with her stomach issues.

After we see how things go in the next week (when she gets up to 22 hours) we will talk to the dr and then decide what we think is best. It may mean that she is not able to wear it the full prescribed amount of time and while that increases her chances of needing back surgery, we have to keep her healthy. She has been hospitalized twice with severe dehydration. The last time she was in renal failure and this was after less than 24 hours of being sick (vomiting.) It's my mission to make sure she does not lose weight while keeping her in the brace as close to 22 hours as I can.

Today I'm working on the Treasure Hunt Reveal Extravaganza. Mainly I'm trying to decide which order the clues should be in.

Oh, does anyone know the best glue for my flower pot? :confused3 I'm looking for something that will hold it together, dry quickly and not super glue because that's a disaster waiting to happen. :scared: :crutches: Unless I get Dave to do the gluing while she is running around the house finding more pieces. :teacher:

It's looking more and more like the weather will be warm this trip.:cheer2:Now I'll have to figure how where to squeeze in some pool time.:umbrella: And this is totally me...:mickeybar

Two weeks people, we have two weeks! This calls for a bit of dancing, but first some music to dance to. :rockband: :charac2: And now, we dance. :dogdance::banana::dance3::cool1: And maybe jump up and down. :jumping2::jumping1::jumping3:

Last night we had one of our last Disney Movie Nights before the trip. We watched Tomorrowland for the first time and had oreos. Hope didn't have any because she was still working on finishing supper and isn't all that big a fan of oreos.

Now if you haven't seen the movie yet, stop reading. I don't want to ruin anything for you.

I LOVED this movie from the beginning. Hearing the music from Carousel of Progress playing as Frank arrives at the World's Fair made me so happy. Seeing the original Small World was awesome. popcorn::

Okay, that is all.

I hope to get my clues all sorted and figured this weekend.
