Podcast Cruise 3.0 - 06/24/2012

I think that's a good question, Zzizzy. Unfortunately, I can't answer, as I'm a newbie to cruising as well. Will be interested to see the answer, tho. Thanks for asking.

To Wayne's question, while I'm not a fan of Nassau I will say that the DCL organized adventures you are contemplating would be safe.

The Department of State is being cautious with their warnings. You could make the same statements about many big cities in the US. Not to pick on NOLA, but its a good example of locations right here in the US where tourists need to be alert against
Pickpocketing and theft
. I wouldn't let that stop me from going though, just pack your street smarts. pirate:

Having said all that, I'm staying on the ship in Nassau. That's more because of the aggressiveness of the vendors than safety, but I all admit that safety does enter into my decision.

I guess I'm no help at all... popcorn::

Pickpocketing has long been a "tradition" in heavy tourist spots. It's not that unusual.

The last time I was in Nassau, I had no problems, I wandered around for a couple of hours on foot by myself

:)

I'm going to echo Jeff's comments here.
If you are doing a DCL excursion in Nassau or to Atlantis, I would say you should be OK.
It's more that the street vendors are aggressive and in your face with their offers of hair braiding, taxi rides, souvenirs, etc. The streets with the shops are crowded with other cruisers (DCL and often at least one more ship are docked) so it's a veritable smorgasbord for pick pockets.

We got off the ship in Nassau on our first cruise- just to say we were there- but we are staying on board this time. There's just too much on the Dream to keep us busy!

I think street smarts will work just fine if you plan to get out and see Nassau.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.

I am still deciding on what I want to do and being this is my first Disney cruise there is a balance between wanting to do everything (always a goal - never possible) and just taking things as they come. The Atlantis water park looks very fun to me, but then so does everything else. You almost need to go once to decide what you want to do. :beach:

Thanks again.

Good attitude Wayne. I'm sure its more difficult for you than many of us who can more easily do a DCL cruise from FL rather than having to fly from the west coast. Add to that the extra stuff that will be going on aboard the ship with all the DIS events and there isn't enough time to see/do everything.

I just booked our one way bus transfer using Dreams Unlimited from Animal Kingdom to the port. How do I get the link back so I can book our one way transfer from the port to Bay Lake Tower?

I will have a scooter and I think I marked that on the reservation but I received an error the first time I submitted so I am not sure if that the scooter remark is still showing.

Thank you for your help.

Carol
It's a great day to be alive!!!

Podcast Cruise 3.0 will be my very first Disney cruise:banana:We have reserved Palo for one night, and the walking and kayak nature adventure on Thursday morning at Castaway. I'm so excited I could just:yay:

A casino???? Where? What? I want to check this out :thumbsup2

I could be wrong, but my father told me that the casino at The Atlantis is the one thing you can enter into without paying for (except for actually getting there). Of the times he's been there I can't say he's ever won anything.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.

We have a similar situation. My problem is that we have 3 kids which makes a day at the Atlantis Waterpark pretty prohibitively expensive! My DH really wanted to do it until i told him the price. We have not yet booked any shore excursions....

If anyone is looking for me on Nassau day I can usually be found in the casino at Atlantis!!! I have actually not done too badly there!

The Atlantis Beach day through DCL is quite expensive, especially for larger families. I have had clients book a room (day rate) at either Atlantis or the Comfort Suites as it is less expensive and they offer access to the Atlantis facilities. These are not always available but may be an option.

You can check with the resort directly at www.atlantis.com (888-528-7155) or http://www.comfortsuites.com/hotel-nassau-bahamas-BS003 (800-330-8272)

Just a note I haven't done this personally but had heard from many that have.

I am glad Jeff and I booked our KSC VAB tour yesterday for the day the ship gets back. After the crew talked about it on show, I am sure the tours will fill up. For anyone one else interested, be booked the 10am tour. Christy and Val opted to go and keep EPCOT warm for us.
