Leaving WDW today, Pirates does need refurb. (boats taking on a lot of water, dark areas, some animatronics not working). Needs some Love!!!I keep hearing from various websites that the boats are taking on a significant amount of water throughout the ride. Thus, creating a slippery situation making entry/exiting the boats dangerous.
Rteetz - Are you hearing the same thing, and is there anything more to this? I know some of the effects (i.e. the projector w/ fog at the beginning of the ride) are also very unreliable.
No and they shouldn't be because this ride could use a 6-8 month closure instead of the 4.5 it's getting. The ride is in bad shape people need to get that through their brains.I have heard that Disney is shortening the refurb of pirates. Has anybody else heard this news?

TDO has a problem with taking rides down for more than a week. They would rather run these rides to the ground than take them down. This is exactly what's happening with pirates, the ride is getting the 4.5 months that MK VP Phil Holmes wanted instead of the 6+ months that it needs to get in full working condition. There was a time when disney would shut down an attraction for one minor thing not working or at least fix it over night. Now they leave it.You would think (hope) there should be some kind of consequences from this ... take a quite reliable, older, but still extremely popular and high-capacity ride and somehow mess it up to the point where people find it uncomfortable, unsafe and unreliable ... and then you have to take it down completely for months? That's bad planning and sloppy execution.
Are all the supposedly really bright minds in Disney parks management now working at DVC and in IT advanced projects?
General Motors. GMAC. OnStar. Nuff said.
So it could be done by the end of August?Just saw the report that disney could be taking a whole month off the refurb schedule. This could mean they increased the refurb budget to get it done faster which is not usually something they do or it could be bad for pirates in the fact that not all the work that needs to get done gets done.
Nothing official until disney announces itSo it could be done by the end of August?
The refurb has been announced, disney won't officlally announce a reduction in the time it will just show up on the attraction calendar. When do you think Disney could announce the refurbishment?
Oh ok, Can anybody planning a trip to Disney soon check their fastpass + and see the farthest dates they can get a fastpass for Pirates? Thanks everybody! The refurb has been announced, disney won't officlally announce a reduction in the time it will just show up on the attraction calendar.
There are plenty of sponsors, just look around at all the Magic Bands and the annual price increases! Let me be the first to thank you for your sponsorship! It makes me sad to hear Disney is putting band aids on problems. If they would go back to obtaining sponsors for attractions and putting money into the park guest wouldn't be disappointed,
just checked for June 3 and not in system yet...or ?? already out?-although that is doubtful-lots of stuff still availableOh ok, Can anybody planning a trip to Disney soon check their fastpass + and see the farthest dates they can get a fastpass for Pirates? Thanks everybody!
Exactly, the summer is one of the busiest times of the year, it would have been smart to start in March and end in June.I agree with davish562; If they are going to shorten the schedule why not start the refurb earlier and finish earlier? Why keep a poorly performing ride open longer than it has to be?
But then you're in the Easter season not much better of a time either. For such a long refurb there is not really a good time.Exactly, the summer is one of the busiest times of the year, it would have been smart to start in March and end in June.
