What is the current news of the Pirates of the Carribean refurbishment? When will it take place? Can someone see how far out they can reserve a fasts for Pirates of the Carribean? Thanks!

It's a 4 month refurbishment and takes place over the majority of the summer. There are other threads regarding this much needed refurbishment. Also visit the dis refurbishments page for specific dates.

The refurb begins in mid-May, and runs through late September. I don't have the exact dates in front of me.

Yesterday I was booking our FPs for our May trip. I could book PotC for 5/10/15, but for 5/11/15 it shows up as down for refurbishing.

I keep hearing from various websites that the boats are taking on a significant amount of water throughout the ride. Thus, creating a slippery situation making entry/exiting the boats dangerous.

Rteetz - Are you hearing the same thing, and is there anything more to this? I know some of the effects (i.e. the projector w/ fog at the beginning of the ride) are also very unreliable.

Yes this is true. These boats were not actually supposed to be for WDW they were intended for DL. DL tested them and then said they didn't want them so of course WDW took them no problem. A lot of people come off the ride soaked. There is also a lot of effects problems like you said and animatronics that don't worm. Many insiders says this ride needs 6+ months but we are getting the bare minimum 4.5 months.

I can tell you that when i was there in Late November early December 2014, we rode that ride several times over the 2 weeks we were there. The Projector on the fog did not work at all, many of the animatronics were down, and even the cannon firing (and subsequent landings in the water) effects were not working right. You would hear the cannon fires but no "Landing" of the cannon balls. It was as if every shot was a miss and by A LOT.

We are going again in June of 2016 and I hope to see if they have it fixed and how much its improved (or not). We do like that ride even though it's not a "Thrill" ride, we still enjoy it.

It makes me sad to hear Disney is putting band aids on problems. If they would go back to obtaining sponsors for attractions and putting money into the park guest wouldn't be disappointed,

Trust me, if Disney could get a sponsor for every park bench in the parks, they would. The problem is companies aren't willing the shell out the money to sponsor rides as much as they once did.

We all know that unless a sponsor is going to put their name on a ride, Disney is going to drag their feet on a refurb as long as they can.

It needs it! Went twice, sitting on the right side, and got wet each time - this week. Not soaked all over, but my butt was, both times. We had third and fifth row. Was told by rest of party that the left side did not get wet. Seemed to correspond with the puddles before entering the boat. Stay aft and left...

To do this in the middle of the summer is nuts. August-November would be a better time. Much less traffic in the Parks.

You can go from mid august to first week of December and have the same amount of time for refurb. In years past Disney would never had closed a Marquis ride like pirates over the 3 busiest months of the year.

Disney doesn't want to close this ride anytime of the year. But when it comes down to it, it's becoming a safety concern. The ride closes due to problems daily. It needs to be done fast. If one ride makes your disney vacation then your doing disney wrong it's about the entire experience. Disney already is short cutting this refurb. The ride needs a good 6 months or longer and they are only giving it 4.5 months.

Sure sounds like Pirates needs the love!
