Oh no, quarantined!

Me too! My DS had a migraine that kept him out of school yesterday, vomiting and all. He usually has the migraine a couple of hours, throws up a few times, and feels better hours later. I have a feeling most health professionals would understand but want to quarantine "just in case"...as long as he doesn't get one right before we get on we should be good : )

I seem to recall somone with migraines posting that she was quarantined after she went to the ship's doctor seeking Zofran. It was only 24 hours and she was happy enough to sit in her room eating room service, watching movies and sitting on her veranda.

If you may need to check the yes on the medical form I would probably bring a note from the pediatrician explaining condition. It could just save a lot of questioning.

But as far as the quarantine question, from our experience, no they don't always quarantine you. Both my daughter and son caught something and began vomiting on day 3 of our cruise. It began mid-late afternoon and they both threw up overnight. By next morning it was over as fast as it started.

We obviously kept them in the room. But Disney knew they were sick because we had to call guest services in the middle of the night for new bedding when our 6 yr old didn't make it to the bathroom. We did get a follow up call the next day from guest services asking how everyone was feeling. Everyone was ok by then and that was all they said. So I think if you are taking care of keeping the sick ones to yourself, they won't do a mandatory quarantine.

My daughter was just confined to the stateroom for 24 hrs on the Fantasy last week. She picked up a GI thing and got sick at dinner (thank goodness we were traveling with friends who are very understanding). She slept through the night without issue but could not keep anything down the following morning. We visited the doctor and he gave her meds to stop the vomiting so she could keep down some fluids. She was already somewhat dehydrated. FYI- because it was a gastrointestinal virus, there was no charge for the doctor visit or the meds. Guest services told us to ask for anything we needed from room service, but no one was very intrusive. The medical office called the following morning to check on her and to advise that we could leave the ship (Castaway Cay day) at 10am.

Several years ago my son (3 at the time) got sick the first night in the dining room. Of course they came in full gear to clean it up which was quite a sight to see. They asked how he was and determined it was a combination of food and sea. He was never quarantined.

The cruise I posted about earlier, when the bug was passed around...we weren't quarantined then either. Of course we were way too sick to even leave the room and the CMs did know because we had to order some things from room service and have clean linens brought. It seems like those that are quarantined are ones that go to the medical center.

What a bummer for them! If they bought insurance they may be able to get some amount of refund. We travel with OTC meds. I understand the ship's doctor's position it to avoid spreading illness, but if it was simply something she ate that didn't agree with her it's a shame to make someone waste a day of vacation on quarantine. I hope she's feeling better and gets to enjoy CC!

Good idea, I never thought of OTC meds for the "runs", need to jot that down.

It makes sense to go to the medical center because you will need proof from them that you were quarantined in order to file a claim with your travel insurance. If you are sick enough to have to stay in your stateroom for a couple days, why not get reimbursed for those days?

Get RX before you go, wait till they get bill for Dr. Visit. That may end cruising.
Had patches and several medications that require RX with me.

They ask if you have been sick when you check in, do not answer yes. You will not go. Do not says you have a little cold, rehearse with your children. They have to go to counter to have picture taken. If you leave ship and come back your picture is checked in computer coming and going.

I am honestly appalled by this. It is absolutely infuriating. No one wants to miss out on a vacation they are looking up to, but you are so selfish that you would jeopardize other peoples vacation just so you don't miss yours? Put yourself on the other side. Would you want other people to do this and risk the health of you and your family and your vacation time? Very poor advice for others and horrible what you are teaching your children. :furious: :furious: :furious:

I get migraines, know my "cocktail" to get me out of it & all. (I see the ER once a year!) Do I need a letter from my Dr saying this so I don't get quarantined & not be able to leave the ship? Anyone know the best way about this?

they don't quarantine people for non-communicable problems, and as far as I know migraines aren't caught from others. Just because you go to the ship's doctor doesn't mean you will get quarantined.

If you know what medication you need, take it with you and save yourself a big bill.

Not that easy, what works for me has to be intravenously given. Can't exactly carry that around! Lol
So you don't think I will need some type of note? Vomiting & pain won't make them flag me no matter what I tell them?

I have no idea. How do you normally travel anywhere? Do they believe you?

I imagine that if you need intravenious drugs you are going to be pretty much in bed anyway, so quanantined or not, you aren't going anywhere.

Probably wouldn't hurt to take a note from your Dr. Something you can easily get and then you wouldn't have to worry if you do have an issue on board.

I don't travel a lot, no.
Around here the ER makes you do all these tests to make sure your not gaveling a stroke or anything, no matter if you tell them your history or not!
And yes, initially I will be in bed, but dont want to be stopped from leaving the ship the next day if Im better.
I just wondered if anyone else had a similar experience is all?!?

I think she was only confined to her cabin for 24 hours. Do a search when they put that feature back up.

Sorry to hear your mom was quarantined.

For those opposed to traveling with a RX- we did, it went very smoothly, and I am quite happy we did. My daughter had tubes placed in her ears (for recurring ear infections) and one has since fallen out. During the month of December (our cruise was in Jan) she had 2 ear aches- one resulting in another burst ear drum. She had already been on meds for 3 days when it burst. Needless to say, I wasn't comfortable traveling for 2 weeks in a different country knowing my daughters history. Our family doctor prescribed an antibiotic and the pharmacist gave us the meds and a separate bottle with the correct amount of distilled water in it. She showed us the best way to mix it, and off we went. I could not imagine flying with an ear infection! Thankfully, we didn't need them! However, if at any point she started complaining about her ears, I would not have hesitated to start the meds. We also saw her specialist just before we left to make sure her ears were ok prior to flying.

Lying and putting other passengers at risk is not a good idea to spread.

The questionaire specifically asks if you had any symptoms such as diaharrea, cough, sneezing, body aches, etc, AND fever within the last 24 hours.

If you did, you better stay off the ship. That's what insurance is for...

If it is going to require them giving you a specific medication, definitely have something with you to let them know what has to be done from your doctor. I would actually call DCL and try to contact the medical group to confirm that they will have what you need.

Even if you have a note, how would DCL medical staff know that the vomiting is caused by migraines and not by a virus without testing? Dr. not or not, you can get a stomach virus...

If it makes you more comfortable to have a note from your doctor, then by all means bring it. However, if your own local ER repeatedly puts you through tests before administering IV med for migraine - and assuming you have a "history" there - then I wouldn't expect anything different onboard the ship. As to whether or not they might quarantine...nobody can guarantee yes or no; if they can are able to decisively determine it is a migraine, then no reason to quarantine because they would then be certain you weren't going to transmit illness to anyone else. If there are other variables in play and it's not a clear-cut migraine issue - you might be quarantined but likely only for a day to see if you are better. I also suffer migraines so I literally understand your concern, however it's just a risk. Can you take anything oral? (I can't.) Do you know your triggers? Do your best to avoid them and hope for an uneventful cruise - in my experience stressing over it would only serve to bring on a migraine.

Enjoy your cruise!
