October 29, 2016 Disney Magic NY

We are happy to say that we will be joining you on this sailing. We also sailed from NYC in 2012 on the Magic's 8 night sailing and had a fantastic time. We were hesitant about taking the older DGS (15 yrs) out of school for a week but we think a Disney cruise is worth it. His younger brother who will be 9 at sailing loves Mickey and anything Disney. I am hoping that there will be a few older kids on this sailing and not all pre-school age. It will be nice talking and getting to know each other over the next year and a half.

:earsboy:I'm so excited we are booked too! This is our 2nd Disney cruise, I am super excited they are leaving out of NY we live about an hour from the port.

Hi Mawsmom,

Welcome aboard!

You will love sailing out of New York. My DW and I sailed out of New York to Canada on the Magic in 2012. We can't wait...only 507 days left.....

Just booked!
So excited to join the Disney Cruising family.
We are first-time Cruisers! Fingers crossed no one gets sea sick!
Any tips and tricks would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hello. I am super excited for this cruise. This is my first Disney cruise. I have two daughters who will be 5 and 22 months. I have cruised before but never Disney. Very excited! Can anyone please help explain to me the fish extenders and how it works? Thank you!! ::MinnieMo

Hi. I have never been on Disney but have cruised before. I never had issues with seasickness but out of ny the water is a little more choppy. I have heard of some braclets that work. But usually you don't feel it unless you are sitting and thinking about it I think you guys will be having too much fun to worry.

Hi All, my name is Amy
Another opening day booker here. I am so excited that this will be a Halloween on the High Seas! We have been to WDW for Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party three times, and we love it. I can't wait to see what Disney cooks up for our High Seas Halloween! I'm already researching costumes, and room and door decorations.
We previously sailed the Magic out of NYC in 2012 to Canada. We had such a great time we never left the ship when it was in port. We'll be off this ship though. Can't wait to get back to WDW, we were just there in December 2014. The kids know about the cruise, but I am going to try to keep the day at WDW a secret as long as possible. We've never been to Castaway Cay, since we sailed north last time.
Our family lives on Long Island in NY, and is DH and I, 3 DSs who will be 13, 12 and 9 at cruise time, and DD who will be 7. We booked adjoining cabins on 2. We will be sailing with my sister, BIL and niece, at least one co-worker and her family, and two school families. I'm trying to sell everyone I know on this. Maybe we can get a bus to drop us off at port....
I'm looking forward to participating in a FE exchange, we loved it last time. I'm already pinning ideas on Pinterest.
Hi. I'm interested in the fe exchange. Can you please give me more info on how it works as this is my first time in Disney cruise. I have done some reading on it and sounds like a great idea for the kids thanks :mickeyjum

We just got off a 2 week cruise on the Fantasy and booked this cruise while onboard!

Hello we booked this cruise on open day and so excited to be sailing out of New York this has been on my bucket list for 20 years!! We are from Northern Ireland and this will be our second Disney cruise and second time on the magic.

Wanted to know if Disney Magic Stateroom 6538 has a solid white wall or see thru railing on verandah?

HI! First Cruise EVER for us! Husband and I, Viola (7) and Julito (3). We are so excited, they LOVE Disney. Also, my daughters Birthday is Nov 1st so she gets a cruise on her Birthday!

Found this site and also the one on facebook for this cruise (https://www.facebook.com/groups/370414719832430/) I have also joined the FE (hope they go easy on the newbies) at (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...ykb954RkYZ7z_XyNSZFqTx93w/edit#gid=2031778988).

Hi. How can I join the fe group?

Hi. How can I join the fe group?
It appears there is no Fish Extender group here on DISboards. There may be FE groups on other sites, but they are not DISboards connected.

If anyone is interested in setting one up, maybe this will help:
SETTING UP A FE GROUP
There really are no “rules” as to how a FE program runs. Basically someone maintains the list of those who wish to participate. The group can decide on what information is necessary to produce FE gifts. A basic list may only have DISname/room number/number of people in the room. A more involved list could be first & last names/ages/room number/ favorite character/ favorite color/allergies/whatever is deemed necessary to know in order to create the gifts. Also a decision can be made as to size of FE group. Some groups break out the list(s) at 10-15 rooms max, so that there are multiple lists (and some people will participate in more than one list). Other groups just make one big list (upwards of 20-30 rooms).

The easiest, most private way to handle the information necessary to prepare the list (many people prefer not to put sensitive information on a public forum), is to use the “Conversation” feature here. There needs to be at least two people to start a conversation. Only the starter of the conversation (usually the organizer) can add additional people into the conversation (as long as they do NOT select “Allow anyone in the conversation to invite others” at the bottom of the reply window). Then when new people express a desire to join, usually by just saying “we want to join the FE”, the organizer can add them by clicking on the “Invite more” button in the “Conversation Participants” window (lower right of conversation page). Only those people participating in the conversation can see what’s posted there, and respond there. I will also note, to participate in conversations, everyone needs to have at least 10 posts. For those who wish to use this option for private conversations that don’t have 10 posts yet, head over to the Test Board to post and up your post count. http://www.disboards.com/forums/test-board.88/

Up to 20 people can participate in any given conversation.

At some point the list will “close”. Typically this happens 30-45 days out from the cruise, so that everyone participating has time to organize/prepare their gifts. Shortly before this time (about 2-3 weeks prior) the organizer will post the list, either directly on the Cruise Meet thread, OR via private conversation, or, possibility, via e-mails. This is to confirm everyone on the list is still participating. It’s important to make a statement about “anyone not confirming by XX date will be dropped” at this time. A little harsh, yes, but often there are people who will post on the cruise meet thread as soon as they reserve the cruise and say “I want to participate”, and are never heard from again.

Once the list closes, the organizer will post the final list. Also, a decision must be made as to whether to allow late additions. Sometimes there is a “pixie dust” list. That is, basically, a latecomers list that gets posted about a week out from the cruise that others may or may not add to their “final” list. Be sure the “pixie dust” list participants realize they may or may not get gifts from others, but are expected to provide gifts for the other FE participants anyway.

The other “biggie” is no other social media sites are allowed to be linked or search directions posted as to how to find that other site here on DISboards. Please read this: http://www.disboards.com/threads/im...uise-meet-and-fish-extender-programs.3353477/
