I'm at an Atlanta Airport hotel - first flight to MCO in the morning! :woohoo:

In case you haven't seen this yet, I found it on FB about an hour ago and got right on the phone and booked it for DH & myself (I've already done this once and loved it!) for one day during our August trip! :cloud9:

This is what was posted:

The total for 2 was $296.08!! :thumbsup2

No code needed - the CMs are aware of this offer and are already getting lots of calls! ;)

Thank you so much for the info!! I'd love to do this. :woohoo:

How many stairs and elevators are in the Giraffe Trail and where are they located at. I have looked at a map but only see 1 elevator. Do they only have 1 elevator ? We were wondering if it would be a lot walking to get out to the pool ? :confused3

I so wish we could do CL, but it's definitely not in the budget. $1500 more? I'm thinking not...

We have been contemplating doing this during our stay - is it really worth it though? We won't be at the resort all that much so I'm having trouble justifying snacks......am I missing something else?

I think it depends on a lot of factors, the biggest for us was what room you had booked (or planned to book) in the first place. For us, we had already booked Arusha, and with the PIN code, moving to CL was under $30 more per night. At that point, we figured that breakfast without having to rush out anywhere made it worth it even if we used no other amenities. Everything else, for us, is just gravy. We did our own ADRs, and aren't doing the safaris so it really is mostly snacks, space, and some peace and quiet this trip!

We are DVC studio savannah view in kidani - we are also on the deluxe dining plan this time too so lots of TS breakfasts. I'm thinking it won't be beneficial to us from what it sounds like. Maybe if no dining plan it would be for the breakfasts like you're doing.

There is only one elevator on that trail. Do you know that that is where your room is? In addition, the main elevator bank is just at the end of the trail.

If your room is on Giraffe Trail, consider yourself lucky in terms of getting to the pool. Rooms on Kudu Trail are a LOT more of a hike. :faint:

I've only stayed on Giraffe Trail once and it took less than a minute to get to the pool.

Perfectly said. It was the same thing with us, maybe even less of a difference between club and regular Arusha view. I think they apply bigger discounts to the club level at times, making the difference so small. It's not worth it (to us) for $100 or more per night.

I think the DVC club rooms book up really quickly. From your ticker, it looks like you're only four months away, I don't know if you would have the availability to switch anyway. Club level isn't something you can just add to a regular booking. Enjoy your trip!

I dont know if that is where our room would be or not but was going to book pool view and request Giraffe Trail. Thanks for the info. Cant believe they dont have stairs also.

You're welcome.
There are stairs too, fyi. We used them from 1st floor to go up to bus level (3).

Every time we've stayed, we've had a hike SOMEWHERE. Usually it's to do laundry. Ha.

But, we usually weigh the good vs the bad.

(note: if you're bad with directions, good luck. I got myself lost a few times last year.. should I be admitting that?!)

Just got back last night! First stay at AKL and LVOED it! We'd visited before, but that didn't do it justice.

We'd also attempted to purchase DVC 3 times int he past, but kept chaging our minds - we just couldn't justify it and each time we tried to take a tour we were never brought to Kidani to actually view the REAL place we just kept getting shuffled over to SSR - As Dh said, it just felt like we were talking to used car salesmen and looking at used cars. Not the way we want to spend $50k. BUT this trip was the last trip we could take to AKL with just 1 room next trip we'll be a family of 5 plus and infant. Soooo Now we're considering DVC again - and saying if we'd actually seen Kidani (and the pool) we'd never have changed our mind in the first place :rotfl2:

So when we arrived we were bone tired but had wired kids - we are escorted to the front desk where we were informed we were upgraded to Arusha view with bunk beds! :goodvibespixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:

PLus our DD got a special call from MIckey & Minnie for her birthday! She was so super excited about both! Each morning we rolled out of bed and the girls watched the giraffes and zebras while getting ready for the day. Then one afternoon went to the pool - which my DD6 had declared the best pool ever - only to have a kid throw up seconds after we got there - so we walked over to kidani to see that pool. Our DD who couldn't swim before and was terrified of water slides have now gone down the big slide roughly 50 times and is swimming like a fish! All 3 kids have now declared that pool their all time favourite and my oldest apologized for asking us to give back the DVC (she was devastated when we told them the news about DVC last year - b/c it meant no more poly, her then fav).

We enjoyed dinner at Mara a couple times and were quite happy with the gluten-free selection and the service we received - every time all CMs were great with making us feel welcome - unlike the service we'd received elsewhere at other resort QS. We also had dinner at Sanaa, but almost had a big problem there - both our DDs were brought out plates containing pasta and when we initially questioned it the waitress tried to tell us it was gluten-free - we insisted she talk to the chef - she took those plates away and brought new ones - also our DDs fruit tasted rather curryish - which shouldn't have happened. However the adult meals were fabulous.

Over all our stay was wonderful and we'll happily go back again.

i have requested Giraffe -Lobby level...I have a pool view so I hope I get my wish!

42 days!!!!

***WARNING - VERY LONG POST/REVIEW BELOW***

We returned from a quick 3-night/4-day trip to AKL Kidani Village last week and I wanted to drop a quick review since I know people who are planning (like I was a few months ago) love to read them :)

This ended up much longer than I had intended, so if you don't feel like reading it and want the short version - the place is awesome you should definitely stay there.

First, I cannot say enough about the concierge staff at this resort. In fact, the entire staff from top to bottom was outstanding and the best I've ever encountered on property.

We rented points from a friend of ours and had booked a studio with savanna view. I did online check-in and requested a room near the lobby on a low floor. Our room was ready at 11am when we arrived and check-in was a breeze. We were assigned a room on the 3rd floor in the 7813-7823 block. We walked to our room and it was beautiful...with one small problem...it was a handicapped accessible room. Now, if we didn't have a 3-year-old who still took baths, this would not have been a problem. We stayed in a handicap room back in 2007, and it was fine. I am not the type of person to "complain" about rooms and ask for changes but I figured what the hell, I don't know when we'll be back and I might as well try because this is our vacation and it never hurts to ask.

I went down to the front desk and a lovely woman over at concierge called me over. Donna. My new best friend Donna. Oh how I love Donna. I explained the situation and told her that if something else was available, that would be great but if not I understand. I let her know we were on our way to the parks so if something wasn't available right away that was fine too. Donna goes into the back room for a good 5 minutes and returns with her best poker face.

"Well Mr. X, I have some good news. We're going to upgrade you to a one bedroom."

Um, what?! I've never been upgraded before, are you serious?! Am I finally getting pixie dust?! This is the type of thing I read on DISBoards and get jealous over! And getting upgraded while staying on points?! That's unheard of! I was speechless. pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:

Donna apologized that the room wasn't ready yet, but that it was also a room on the lobby level and close to the lobby, so "I was able to meet all of your requests". Completely floored, I could barely contain my excitement. I'm pretty sure I floated back to our original room to tell my wife the news.

The Room
One bedroom villas here are unreal. We've never stayed in a room that nice and holy crap is it nice. Is it $700+/night nice? I dunno. But man is it gonna be hard to stay anywhere else after experiencing this. We were so excited that we didn't even notice the 2nd bathroom near the front door until about 15 minutes after we got in the room!

The master bath is amazing, the balcony is huuuuuge and goes from the living room to the bedroom with doors going to both rooms.

The washer and dryer was a great thing to have in the room, especially after coming home with some wet clothes thanks to the downpour on Sunday.

The bed is comfortable, and my daughter loved the sleeper-chair she used as a bed. There are plenty of outlets for all your electronics and plenty of space to put your luggage and all your clothes. I could ramble on and on about this room.

My 2 critiques about the room...I had read some people did not like the lighting they have in these rooms and I do agree it is a little low. There are plenty of lamps and overhead lights so it wasn't a big deal to me, but I do understand how it could be a problem to some. The toilet room in the master bath was especially low on light. Secondly, we found it difficult to maintain a comfortable temperature in the room. We were constantly fiddling with the thermostat. It was either a little too cold, or too hot, etc. Maybe it was just us. Not a huge deal though.

The Buses
Always a topic of conversation! We found them to be pretty good for the most part. We never waited more than 15 minutes for a park bus, and never more than 10 minutes coming back from a park. I loved being picked up before Jambo and always having a seat, which is especially nice with a little one. There were some times where the bus was completely packed. The length to get to the parks wasn't bad, but I knew it would average 20-25 minutes before going there so I was prepared. I didn't find the rides to be much longer than when we stayed anywhere else. It was nice that it only took about 5 minutes to get to AK once we left Jambo.

The Savannah View
Holy crap the view. Amazing. Simply amazing. However, I would NOT recommend spending the extra money on it if you spend all day at the parks. Animals were rarely out before 10am, and of course you can't see anything from your room at night. But when we came back during the afternoon it was awesome. Plenty of giraffes and other animals...the zebras were not on our side except for very early (7-8am) in the morning on our last day. Our daughter had a great time looking at the animals and so did we.

The Staff
Everyone was amazing. Bell services, check-in, concierge, mousekeeping, etc. I already mentioned Donna, but I also need to bring up Harold. I went down to purchase park tickets for our last day (we hadn't planned on doing anything but changed our minds last minute), and Harold over at concierge called me over to help. Everything was going just fine until he stopped and said he'd have to go talk to the manager. A few minutes later he came back out and explained that there was a systems error and he couldn't add tickets to our KTTW cards. So to apologize for the inconvenience, they were issuing us comps for the day. Excuse me? Seriously? MORE pixie dust? I never wanted to leave this place. pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:

In conclusion, I would absolutely recommend staying at Kidani. Unfortunately, we were only there for 4 days (3 and a 1/2 after flights) and we concentrated on parks, so I did not get to see the pool area (which I regret) and we did not eat at Sanaa. I did not get a chance to roam the resort and explore.

I'd be happy to answer any questions to the best of my ability, but if you're thinking about staying here, DO IT!!!
