I Paid Someone $5 for a Catchy Trip Report Title, and This is All I Got-Updated 12/29

Then they called all of the kids out for coconut/broom races. James and Marlene were in different heats. Lauren decided she was a little too old for that game.

Here’s James in action.

And Marlene.

Throughout all of the festivities, the pork and steak and shrimp were being delivered to our plates by the waiters carrying skewers. Now I hate food porn pictures of half-eaten plates of food, but under the ‘Ohana system of them filling your plate, that’s what we’ve got here. And I know you want to see what the meat looked like, so with my apologies for the appearance, here you are:

img_1310.jpg

Judy ate one shrimp and laid-off of those because they weren’t de-veined. I’d prefer them de-veined, but hey, if they’re not, I won’t let that stop me. They were good.

I walked over to the barbecuing area and took a picture.

img_1311.jpg

Then the entertainer came back out (I wish I remembered her name!) and announced that everybody who danced would get a lei. I can’t remember if we did the hula or what exactly. (Even if I did the hula, you would probably say, “I’m not sure if that’s the hula, or what exactly.”) :dogdance:

img_1313.jpg

I think Marlene took this picture of the bread pudding while I was shakin’ what my mama gave me. :dancer: I took one later, not knowing that she had taken this one, and the ice cream was all melty. Good job Marlene, looking out for my trip report!

img_1315.jpg

Then the mom of the cute little boy on the bus came over with him and told us that their waiter had dropped a whole tray of drinks on him and she had to change his clothes. Fortunately she had a change of clothes with her. Poor little guy. :charac2: He was upset, so she brought him over so my kids could help cheer him up. They loved it. I took some pictures and got her e-mail address so I could send them to her when I got back home. When I sent them, I figured she’d reply back, and I could ask her if it would be all right if I posted some on a trip report without any names or anything. She never replied. So, in light of that, please enjoy these pictures of my kids with random people at ‘Ohana. :rolleyes1

See, when I finally got around to taking a picture of dessert, it looked like this. Good thing Marlene was on the ball.

img_1327.jpg

Full of food and well-entertained, at around 8:00 we decided it was time to leave. Now, in my master-plan for the trip, I was thinking that we’d watch the fireworks from the Poly beach, and if you recall, Judy and I had even checked it out the night before. But at 8:00 we had lots of time to get over to the Magic Kingdom to watch the special July 3rd version of the 4th of July fireworks. Only James, my 9 ½ year old, thought that this was a bad idea. He was quite adamant that we should watch from the beach. But I thought it’d be better to get closer. Who was right on this decision? You’ll have to tune in next time.

One more photo before I wrap up this installment. Out at the Poly monorail stop I noticed all of the foliage and thought it would be a good backdrop for a family picture. I asked a guy who was walking by if he would take our picture with my camera. Here’s what he took. It’s my favorite family photo of the whole trip.

That is a great family picture!!!

Everyone looks so happy.:goodvibes

I agree with Judy on the non devained shrimp.......I can't eat it if I see that poop sack thing running through it...

I knew they lived in the Carolinas (the location on his profile says “Upstate SC”), and we had lived in Wilmington, NC back in the late nineties, so I asked about where they live. They’re in South Carolina now, but had also lived in North Carolina in the nineties. Comparing notes as to where exactly, resulted in us zeroing-down the location from region, to town, to area, to intersection. (Really? Us too. Oh yeah? Us too!) End result -- we lived a couple of miles from each other, although I think they moved away the same year we moved in. (No “there goes the neighborhood” jokes please!) Small world moment number two. Marvin’s son said something like, “if they say they lived on our street, I’m gonna die.”

It's a small world after all........It's a small world after all.....it's a small world after all, it's a small, small world!!!!! (Okay Glenn, try getting that song out of your head the rest of the day.... )

BTW, you have a great family too! I guess it was a little more like we had known each other forever for the two of us having chatted on here, but with all the outgoing personalities, I think it was a lot of fun for everyone. And I promise, the Real Estate agent didn't say anything about you guys moving nearby in Wilmington when we decided to leave the area.......... :rolleyes1 Actually, I thought I remembered there was a little overlap. We moved away in June of 1997.

Wow, after all the pictures I'm really hungry! We have done Ohana a couple times for character breakfasts, but never dinner. Might be on the list for next time. What type of chicken was that, it looks great? And I'm with Judy on the deveined shrimp, but hey, that's what they make the tines on forks for, right? And that pork and steak still looks good, even on a half-eaten plate. :rotfl2:

We must have been just ahead of you heading over to the MK. We were going to watch from Poly Beach too, but decided we had time and were willing to brave it. I should have checked my notes. I thought the fireworks were at 10, so when we got there and they routed us "backstage" into Tomorrowland, we decided to ride the race cars for fun since the line didn't look that long and it was something Andrew hadn't done before. We were just leaving on our ride when the fireworks started :sad2: We got back and headed over behind the castle without missing too much, so all was not lost. I credit it to a senior moment....

Thanks. We were/are....I'm a very lucky man.

It helps me to call it "de-veined", even though it's not technically a "vein" (I definitely avoid the term "poop sack"!). I know it's just semantics, but....mind over (fecal) matter, right?

Beautiful picture of a beautiful family! :thumbsup2

Glad to know you had a great time at 'Ohana! The food pictures are really yummy, and I don't mind the half-eaten plates... better than empty ones!

I'll just hum The Oak Ridge Boys' "Elvira" or Kenny Rogers' "Lucille".

Thanks. DIS-meets are great.

Okay, yes, about a year overlap.

Makin' me hungry too. I didn't exactly know what kind of chicken that was, that's why I just put "chicken" in my TR, I confess! According to the wdwinfo website, it says it's coriander chicken wings.

I don't know about using your fork to de-vein shrimp. I think that'd gross me out more than just eating the whole shrimp! :scared1:

I want to save most of my comments for the next installment, but yeah, I think I already alluded to the fact that it was, um, "busy".

We really enjoyed it. Of the restaurants at the Poly, I think I made the right choices -- Kona for date night, 'Ohana for family night.

I MUST eat at Ohana!!!!!!!!!!!

What a fabulous evening it looks like you had and I love your small world moments. Reminds me of the time I ran into a girl I went to middle school with...in the bathroom of a restaurant in Paris.

How adorable about the little boy.

Oh the food looks SOOOOOOOO good!

I love your last picture, it's Christmas Card material for sure!

That is a great family picture!!!

Oh dear, see I can do shrimp either way but wow, that image may have just killed it for me.

Bleh.

It's not a "must do" on each trip for us, but we definitely needed to try it and were glad we did. It's a great family meal.

Oh my gosh! You must have thought, "Is this my friend, or is it my friend's identical french twin?"

How adorable about the little boy.

As a guy it pains me to write it, but he was the cutest thing ever.

It was good. They should go with the bread from Kona though.

Thank you. I might do that.

Bleh.

Yeah, "poop sack" isn't helping. That's the whole reason Judy won't eat it.

Sounds like cheerleader week at Disney.

Was Pantene just shampoo? I say just, 'cause Kelly made it seem like so much more!
:lmao::lmao:
I just noticed that....

I guess potty talk is never far away..

I try to not think about it...butI just can't. But then I won't eat chicken off the bone either because of all the veins and stuff.

(If I had it to do over again, I’d make my DIS screenname “SomeGuyOnTheInternet”. That way people could say, “You should hear what SomeGuyOnTheInternet just said,” or “I can’t believe you want to have a DIS-meet with SomeGuyOnTheInternet”. Now somebody will take my idea  , or maybe they beat me to it anyway. I don’t know.)

:lmao:

hmmm...maybe Judy and I should have matching t-shirts that say

poop sack free

would she be freeked out by recieving that in the mail?:rotfl:

I'm just picturing myself trying to explain it.

And she'd be like, "You mean this was sent by SomeWomanOnTheInternet?!!"

I'm glad you did....it's a lotta work coming up with this material.

Potty talk seems to be on just about every thread I go to these days!

Bad enough that it's around daily in my house with the E's...

I can't escape it!

I know what you mean. James' two sisters try to keep him in line around here though.

This conversation remind me of this movie :confused3

There are some shorts of it in youtube.com, but I didn't want to link to them because of some posts in the comments section.
