We've been during gay week before and other than it being a bit busier than normal, didn't notice! Not that it would have bothered me anyway
I don't think questioning the behavior of certain groups who've been known to act in distasteful ways is bigotry. If they had black panther day at Disney I wouldn't go near during that week. This doesn't make me racist because I find this particular groups actions sickening. Same with Gay Days. The ones who attend do not represent all gays. You wouldn't catch me dead at a gay pride parade nor would you find me at a Chippendale show with or without my children. One of our favorite places to eat right outside the Disney gates will no longer be on our list of must do's. Our waitress who we thought was female until he asked for our order in a skirt gave my children quite a shock. He wouldn't even look us in the eye and the whole experience was very disturbing. This is not family friendly to us as these are discussions that should not be forced upon 5 year olds. The only encounter I've had with this group was in the 90's and I did see things that bothered me. I only witnessed this outside the gates but still every family should be able to make their own judgements and not be called bigots.

Missy13d69 said:That's absolutely right. This is America, everyone should be able to be left to have their beliefs without persecution and harsh judgment. Just the same as all people should be able to express themselves and live their lives as who they are without being persecuted and judged. It would be a wonderful and perfect world if we were all tolerant, and treated everyone with common human decency and respect and taught our children to do the same. Gay Days shouldn't need to exist, but unfortunately it does because not everyone has the same beliefs I do. A transgendered waitress shouldn't be made to feel so uncomfortable by the reactions of guests that she can't make eye contact with them. It's really too bad that there are some people who don't think that all people are equal.
I agree, I think that article is from about 2005, so over 7 years old. Why doesn't Pete just have someone from the Disboards crew go to Gay Days each year and write a new/fresh/up-to-date blog post about the actual events/experiences? That would seem to make more sense than that old article getting recycled every year and rehashed on EVERY SINGLE Gay Days thread.Do you have any idea how old that article is? Every year someone drags up that same old, tired, self loathing article and says, "OH NOES! I don't want my kids to see teh gay!" Every. Single. Year. I think that article has been circulating as long as I have been on the DIS.
Listen to the people that have actually been there.
... and I have a 4 year old that knows what "gay" is. You underestimate your kids.
The saddest thing about this post, and there are many, is that you don't even know that you are a bigot and you are teaching bigotry to your children.I don't think questioning the behavior of certain groups who've been known to act in distasteful ways is bigotry. I respect people who come here to ask what to expect to see if they take their children to Disney during Gay Days. There are some articles out there that would call into question the timing of that visit when you are bringing youngsters on vacation. I also respect but do not understand the concern some people have if their children are "exposed" to people whose sexual orientation differs from their own. But my tolerance stops at that point. You get to decide what is appropriate in your own home. You get to determine how to parent your children. You should not get to decide that it is okay to make people who are simply working uncomfortable because of your own discomfort.
People who have been to Disney during Gay Days have stated every time this question comes up that there is no real reason to boycott Disney during that time frame. There is no real reason to expect behavior that is going to scar your children and make their eyes bleed.
Your example that compares gay families to Black Panthers is offensive. Kind of like comparing those Bikers who ride for charities Hell's Angels. That type of post tends to scream bigotry.

Lol, some are respectable AND normal? Who knew it was possible?
I'm still wondering where she is meeting all of the perfect heterosexuals!
