BACKGROUND: Beaches & Cream was one of only a handful of non-character restaurants frequented by my family during our early trips to Disney World. The food there was both good and kid-friendly. It was also relatively inexpensive (for Disney World food), the '50s style decor was fun, and they served 8 different flavors of ice cream with about 10 different toppings to choose from. So, what more could you ask for, right???
Our First Visit to Beaches & Cream - July 2001
But then as the kids got older, I wanted to try more and more new places so some of the old stand-bys like Beaches & Cream seemed to have gotten lost somewhere in the shuffle. Consequently, we had not been there in more than 6 years.
Our Last Visit to Beaches & Cream - March 2006
As you can see, I still had my trusty, old fanny pack then, so my kids hadn't yet hidden it from me. I think it may have even been along for a few more trips after that, before it was forced into retirement by my sneaky children. Oh well, enough said about that I guess, moving on now to the more important topic of food, and more specifically Beaches & Cream food!
Anyway, my last few trips I had really wanted to return to Beaches & Cream, but just didn't have enough time to squeeze a visit there into our dining schedule...not even a quick stop for ice cream. So I was determined that on this trip we would have...
We had taken advantage of Extra Magic Hours at DHS the night before so had gotten to bed late. So I decided that this morning could be another sleep-in morning for the girls. I got them up and going just in time to get to B & C at opening time, 11:00 a.m. This, however, was not nearly late enough to be considered sleeping-in, according to my daughters.
Anyway, we were one of the first groups there and were seated in one of the few booths that they have along the wall. Which was new for us, as we had never gotten to sit in one of their booths before.
DD1 and I each had a Coke with Vanilla syrup added. DD2 had a Sprite with the more unusual flavor of Raspberry syrup added. All were "Very Good".
After a week of "fancy" food , this cheeseburger and fries really hit the spot and we both gave this a rating of "Very Good".
Now we specifically asked our server what the six cheeses were and I noted it somewhere, but for the life of me I can not find that note. I can tell you, however, that DD1 loved this and gave it a "Very Good" rating. Since that time, she has been experimenting with different cheese combinations in the Grilled Cheese sandwiches she makes at home.
I thought these were great and gave them a rating of "Very Good". DD1 thought they were a little too greasy and gave them only an "Okay". So the onion rings receive the average of our two ratings, which is "Good".
Actually, I'm just pulling your leg. This was on its way to the table behind us (that's why the picture is so blurry, since I had to take a quick shot of it) and I'm happy to report that the five of them managed to eat it all.
DD1 and I decided to share a dessert. While our choice was a wee bit smaller than the Kitchen Sink, it was still equally delicious.
No Way Jose (smaller version with only 2 scoops of ice cream)
Peanut Butter and Hot Fudge delight featuring Chocolate and Vanilla Ice Cream, Peanut Butter and Chocolate Morsels, Whipped Cream, & a Cherry. (We were charged the price of a Regular Two Scoop Sundae for this - $5.99)
I had never had this before, but had seen (and coveted) this delicious-looking ice cream treat in many of your pictures. Well, I'm happy to say that the No Way Jose does in fact taste as good as it has looked in all the pictures. I don't know who Jose is, but if I ever do meet him, I would definitely not tell him "No". So anyway, you can count DD1 and I among the members of the "No Way Jose" Fan Club, as we both gave this a rating of "Very Good".
Although she didn't like the fact that it was served this way, she still said it tasted "Very Good".
And so overall our rating for this meal was:
A Nearly Unanimous "Very Good" (with the only exception being the Onion Rings)

Anyway, we were one of the first groups there and were seated in one of the few booths that they have along the wall. Which was new for us, as we had never gotten to sit in one of their booths before.
We first chose our drinks from among these options:
Sodas flavored with syrup, which made them more Heavenly (just like the menu says)
DD1 and I each had a Coke with Vanilla syrup added. DD2 had a Sprite with the more unusual flavor of Raspberry syrup added. All were "Very Good".
Then we all ordered from the "Hot Off the Grill" section of the menu:
DD2 and I shared this...
Burger Heaven - A juicy Angus Beef Patty topped with Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato and Bacon added (for an extra $.99) served on a Fresh-baked Bun (baked fresh daily at the Yacht & Beach Club Resorts Bakery).
We had a choice of Fresh Fruit or French Fries for the side, and we chose French Fries.
This was already split in half for us and brought to our table on two plates.

DD1 doesn't like hamburgers, so she went a different route with this...
Grilled Cheese Sandwich and Tomato Bisque
Six-Cheese blend on Fresh-baked Sourdough Bread
She chose the Fresh Fruit for her side.

Onion Rings

And now it's time for dessert, so let's take a look at the menu...
And we chose this...
"The Famous" Kitchen Sink - Scoops of Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry, Coffee, and Mint Chocolate Chip smothered in Marshmallow, Strawberry, Pineapple, Peanut Butter, Hot Fudge, Caramel, Chocolate Syrup, Whipped Cream, Toasted Almonds, and Cherries.
Serves Four - $25.99

DD2 ordered a Single Scoop Ice Cream Cone, which she was expecting to be served in just a cone but instead was served this way...
Single Scoop Chocolate Ice Cream Cone served upside-down in a small bowl
Although she didn't like the fact that it was served this way, she still said it tasted "Very Good".
And so overall our rating for this meal was:
