I believe those were Strand's cuff links that, in the prior episode, that particular guard had taken from him (along with his watch) in order to get the key. Strand was taking back what was his and was leaving the guy there to be eaten as a "screw you" for taking my stuff type of thing.
I really like this show and find it suspenseful, but is anyone else disappointed that they've not shown the fall of civilization much? When this show was announced, I think many people were under the impression it would show what went on while Rick on TWD was in a coma. It would show everything caving in, people realizing what was happening, etc. It's shown bits and pieces of it but it seems it has escalated to the point where they are in survival mode now. Kind of in conjunction with where they are in TWD. No one is questioning much, no one is batting an eye about killing zombies or people who have been bitten. I liked in the beginning how Madison and Travis tried talking to the zombies, not understanding what they were. But that's all gone out the window. I think there would still be some emotional conflict and people not comprehending. Not seeing a lot of that. But I like the show regardless!
Right. That's exactly what I was thinking too. And, initially, that's what it was... the unexplained absences, the viral video of the walker being shot, the riots & looting, the military trying to contain neighborhoods... but, then, suddenly, it went to "every man for himself" & the characters suddenly knowing how to kill the walkers & that, if you're bitten, someone needs to kill you.
What I didn't understand w/ Liza is how quickly they were ready to shoot her. I found that hard to believe actually. You don't go from not being able to shoot an actual walker that was someone you didn't even know (the waitress Kimberly) through a scope yards away to suddenly being able to just shoot your ex-wife at close-range who is still alive (&, at this point, exhibiting no symptoms).
Even, in TWD, w/ Bob, they let him die naturally & then they put something through his brain.
Yeah, I really wasn't expecting the breakdown of society to happen so fast, since as others have said, that's what this show was supposed to be about. It's like they blew through all of that in a couple episodes and now we're already trudging into TWD territory, and what's the point of that?
I actually think the breakdown of society would happen very fast which is what makes it so scary.
But even the family has seemingly quickly gone from the initial shock to the military is setting up shop to we're killing zombies & we're killing our family members who were bit even though this is supposed to be days old and we don't know much about it (I think that's the timeline?). I though we'd get some initial character development episodes, hear some things about this new contagious disease, see the Mayor or President step in. That kind of stuff. It pretty much went from intro of the virus to full blow kill or be killed, and I guess that's my only gripe.
I agree that people in that situation would be ruthless about protecting their own family. But I would have liked to have seen them get that way over time. If this were "real life", I think people would still be turning to police or military for help rather than taking matters into their own hands. Even some of the characters seem "in the know" about the virus, like Daniel and the doctor. How did they get so familiar with it if this is all brand new.
There was a scene that showed their cars driving away from the city, & they pass under the highway which shows all the cars abandoned - like the scenes from Atlanta, & I thought to myself, "Why couldn't they have shown THAT scene - the events which made everyone suddenly abandon their cars. That's what we wanted to see."
And, when they were in the middle of downtown LA hiding in Daniel's store while the rioting & looting were going on outside, I wanted to see what was happening on the streets. Can you imagine? The more people that are killed, the more walkers that are created.
And, also, there have been a couple of times in TWD, when the characters have run into walkers which are in FEMA suits or riot gear - like when Shane & the other dude went to the school to get the equipment for Carl. I wanted to see what happened at the disaster relief stations & at the prisons & other places.
Or, when the electricity kept going on & off... what was happening on a national scale at the very beginning... when things went from "we have it under control" to "no, we don't."
