Former Comcast internet help desk person here and I know just how awful poor service can be - that Economy Plus speed is "Up To" 3MPS. Basically you're getting a little bit more than dial up. It won't be fast enough for streaming properly or phone connection (or worse, using phone and streaming at the same time). Please get the most speed you possibly can, it will greatly enhance your viewing. How much is Comcast charging you for internet only? After going round and round with them for a few rounds I got them to mark mine down to $39.95 for Economy Plus internet. I think the download speed is 3MPS.
I think including taxes it's around $47.$39.95 inclusive of all taxes??? I must be getting ripped off. I'll have to start shopping around and demand they lower my price. Thanks for the info.

You are very definitely getting ripped of. I looked up comcast's prices and found this: http://www.xfinity.com/internet-service.html
Are there any other ISPs in your area?

If you aren't planning to use netflix or hulu or any of the other internet-based programming on your tv, and don't need an internet phone connection, and aren't doing any online gaming, then you might be OK with what you have. Or you could call Comcast and tell them you want to cancel your service because other people have much higher speeds than you do for about the same price, and see if they offer you something faster.I would rather have a faster speed but I told them I refuse to pay them more than $40 per month. I would get streaming video, but isn't that another $10 per month? I don't watch enough TV to pay that much. Seems high.
I have never had a problem getting my rate reduced back to the introductory rate. The problem with most of them is that they are more than willing to give you a lower introductory price to get you to sign up but then proceed to jack up the rate in 6 months or a year.
They let you stream *some* of their shows, some full episodes, some recaps but never full seasons and rarely the most current for free. If you truly want to watch a current show, beginning to end you need to sign in with your cable ID. Meaning, you have to be paying for cable.all the major channels you can get on your laptop/computer/tablet. CBS, NBC, FOX, ABC all let you stream for Free most of their shows.
We use Netflix for the kids.
Here, Cox will now say, "when would you like us to shut off service" when you call and try force their hand.I have never had a problem getting my rate reduced back to the introductory rate.

Well, there's also the problem that for some there really isn't anywhere else to go and they know that. Most of them do that now, they don't care and why should they, they make plenty of money off of all the other suckers who never push back.

I've looked into cutting the cord many times but with a family of five with highly different tastes it would cost me as much, if not more to subscribe to the various streaming services and then supplement with season passes on stuff you just can't get any other way. I hate my cable bill, truly despise it but I admit, I'm spoiled and I like my TV. If I could truly watch the shows I wanted to with apps alone I'd do it in a heartbeat.
Just wanted add clarification so they know what they'd be working with.Yes that's true. I guess I just don't mind if I miss a couple episodes of shows and if I'm way behind instead of current. It's easy to check out which shows are offered though and if cutting costs is more important than missing a couple episodes then the OP might be able to get away with it.
