Could the Dream Turn the Grump into a Believer? Charleston Update 10/13

Continued from the previous post

It was really hot out and the boys were dying to go swimming, so back to the hotel we went. They changed while Don and I grabbed a drink and met them at the pool.

There was a lot of splashing going on! Thank goodness there weren't many people in the pool for them to bother :thumbsup2

We saw this from our 2nd floor perch where the pool was, I thought it might be fun to take a carriage ride, but we never did

While the boys swam Don and I talked about what we wanted to do the next day. I was leaning towards going to both the Georgia Aquarium and World of Coke before going to the Braves game later that night. Don was going all cheap on me and said he thought they were both too expensive and we shouldn't do either. :headache: I'm not gonna lie, an argument ensued - what the heck did we come for if we weren't going to do anything? Did he just want to sit at the hotel all day until game time? I sure didn't! I told him we were on vacation and to quit being a cheapskate, then I let it go, I'd see how he felt in the morning - I didn't want to push too much or he'd just shut down.

Instead we lured the boys out of the water with talk of food. I had read about a place called Max's pizza that was just a couple of blocks from our hotel, so that is where we decided to go. Sorry, no pics, I haven't gotten comfortable enough to take food porn pictures outside of Disney yet. But I can tell you that our meal was very good! We all left stuffed and instead of rolling ourselves back to the room, we decided to head over to the park to walk off our meal. Another fountain show was going on as we arrived so we stopped to watch a bit of it

Then we just strolled around

I think we got back to the room a little after 10. I took a night time shot of our view

And then crawled into a very inviting bed, I was beat! I think it was this night that I got a call from Anita (wigdoutdismom) right about the time that I laid down, or it might have been the next, I'm not 100% certain. They were at Universal's City Walk and having a great time! We didn't talk long, but it was fun to hear from her. :goodvibes

I drifted off to sleep, still wondering what we were going to be doing the next day.......

YAY! You started your trip!!! I am going to enjoy reading this one for the next few days!!!! :) I have never seen any of the Olympic facilities in Atlanta. I was in Greece the year after the olympics there, and that was really cool to see too. :thumbsup2 Great shots! Looking forward to hearing how the next day pans out! And the photo you have the close up of your sons is really nice! And Don does look like he is enjoying himself!

You had me cracking up describing your drive down! :lmao: I feel the same way. I hate long road trips! And I am just like you... the big rigs make me so nervous and frustrated. Heck almost everyone else on the road makes me frustrated. I love the ones that ride your tail, then pass you, then get in front of you and slow down so that you have to break your cruise control! :headache: Oh now you have me wondering if I should be flying down in October! Btw, why didn't you guys fly?

Looks like you had a great time in Atlanta and the Grump is smiling in every picture, so this is a good sign! ;) All your pictures are really good too! Love the fountains and waterfalls. Did you use the new camera for all your pictures or just when you were around water?

I am the same exact way about road trips. Even the five-hour drive to Tybee about did me in. I am just too anxious to get where we are headed.

You had a gorgeous view of Centennial Olympic Park both during the day and at night!!! How neat that you were able to stroll around and see all of it. Confession Time: We have not been since the Olympics. However, during the Olympics we went down there several times. It is a really great place!

When you were driving into the city did you see the Georgia State University Buildings on the side of I-75? They were the Olympic Village for the athletes during the games, and then the university bought them to use as dorms afterwards.

I hope Don decided to do the World of Coke and the Georgia Aquarium the next day!

Hey, Michelle, my name is Tina. I have enjoying reading your TR! After seeing the pics of your kids, I just HAD to tell you how absolutely handsome your boys are! I can't believe how well your oldest son takes pictures! Most boys his age make the silliest faces or don't smile at all.

As for the road trips, I totally agree with you! I hate the drive from Louisiana to WDW and DCL, but we prefer to save money by driving. :thumbsup2

I agree the drive from Little Rock to Memphis on I-40, is not a fun drive. Getting through Memphis is an adventure also. Of course nothing beats I-285 around Atlanta for adventurous drivers. I-75 through Atlanta is not that bad, there is not as many trucks.

I look forward to your next update, to see if you made it to the Aquarium and The World of Coke. DH sister and family visited this weekend and we did both yesterday. I do not believe I could have then gone to a Braves game last night. I was exhausted just going to the Aquarium and world of coke.

Laughed out loud at your road trip journey!! Oh no at forgetting your contacts case - am glad you managed to buy one later.

Love the view of the park and all the pics! Wow there sure were a lot of people at the fountain show. Looking forward to hearing what you actually decided to do the next day.

Sounds like your first day in Atlanta was really lovely! The night pictures of the fountain are fantastic!
I would have been right with you girl-- why would you spend the two days in Atlanta if you weren't going to enjoy what the city has to offer?? I hope you got your way! ;)

I am interested to see if you went to the World of Coke. I have only been to Alanta oncce for a day that was either right before the Alanta olympics or right after...but we saw the World of Coke, the Olympic Park and I remember some underground mall or something??

We drove that route back from WDW. I think Marc said the exact same thing about the drive from Memphis to Little Rock. The truckers seemed to hold everyone else hostage!

What a great hotel you picked in Atlanta! The view was amazing!!!
As usual great photographs!
The boys look so happy in the pool, I sure miss their smiles!

Can't wait for the next update!

I think you made the road trip very interesting! I am exactly like you -- I HATE road trips!!! I'm not that fond of flying, but I'd much rather take the 2 1/2 hour flight than the 20 hour drive to Florida!

The views at the park were sooo pretty!!! I especially like the water falls & the rocks! You really took some beautiful pictures, both day & night!

I know what you mean about taking food porn pictures at places other than Disney! I've taken some at local restaurants & even at Target & I always get funny stares! :lmao:

I'm so glad you took the picture of the Olympics team monument! That was my absolute favorite women's team!!! I actually have all of the gymnastics from that year taped on VHS!!! :goodvibes

I probably say this everytime I post on your report, but I still can't believe how big your boys are now!!! It seems that they grow everytime you post pics of them!!!

I forgot to ask in my last post -- how's the job going so far??? :goodvibes

Yay you started! I feel the same way about driving and wasn't looking forward to spending 2 days in the car with my 2 little ones. :headache: We lucked out and got good price on a flight, so we are driving this time...

Beautiful fountain pictures!

joining in your trip report - great pictures of the Olympic Park - we haven't been to Atlanta for years, but next time will definitely visit that park. I remember reading your last trip report when you went to Disney at Christmas (I too have a very Disney resistant husband!) how did you persuade your DH to go on a Disney cruise -that's what I am trying to do now:rotfl:

Wow, you had a great view in Atlanta! Boy, the park is just beautiful. We only stayed one night in Atlanta a few years ago and you go me wishing we had seen more!

I know what you mean about long drives and truckers! It can be very frustrating sometimes.

Sure hope you got to at least do the Aquarium or World of Coke.

The photos of the park are beautiful! And I agree that it looks like Don is already relaxed. I just don't understand the hating on road trips.:lmao: I LOVE road trips!!!!:hippie: The only reason we ever fly is if we are short on time. I don't mind it, but do prefer the joys of the open road. Even traveling to Yellowstone last summer with a 5 and 7 year old didn't change my opinion.:rotfl2: They have become quite the little car trippers.

I hate road trips too Michelle! So long, so boring, such a huge time committment. Did you and Don at least alternate driving? We just bought a newer minivan and have an appointment to get two dvd players installed. I think they are invaluable! :thumbsup2

Don sounds so much like my husband. He'd rather veg at a hotel than go out and find something to do. Ugh, men. :rolleyes1

Cannot wait to read more! :goodvibes

Oh Michelle - you sound like me in the car. I can't take it. I am the most impatient person EVER when it comes to car trips! When ever Denny talks about driving to Florida I immediately veto it and then purchase airfare! "Guess what honey? I bought our plane tickets today". My longest drive ever was from my house to Nashville, and even then we had to stop. ;)
777 miles. That's a record for me. Swear!

However, I promise that when both of my kids are in college we are going to take two weeks to drive to Florida. No rush. Split it up. I seriously have never set foot in South Carolina or Georgia. But I plan to in October! :thumbsup2 I am actually looking forward to my first real drive to Florida - 2 years from now! :rolleyes1

I'll be back later to look at your pix cause I can't see them now.

Cool pictures. I especially love the night time pictures of the fountains and your view. Awesome view!

Nothing against Atlanta, but I think I'd trade a trip there for a trip to Greece, just sayin'.........

Don was away from work enjoying a beer by the pool, yep, he was pretty at that moment. It was when the next day's itinerary was mentioned that the happiness faded

You had me cracking up describing your drive down! :lmao: I feel the same way. I hate long road trips! And I am just like you... the big rigs make me so nervous and frustrated. The trip really evolved into something much shorter than we had originally planned. At first we were talking about really making a big deal of it, stopping in Nashville, Atlanta & Savannah on the way there (skipping Orlando completely) and then taking a different route home, stopping in Pensacola, New Orleans & Dallas on the way back. But, after really crunching it we decided it was just too much money, plus Don would have a hard time getting off work for that long. As high as airfare was at the time though, we decided to try driving and see how it worked for us. Not to mention, once the boys heard "Braves game" they were not going to be denied!

Looks like you had a great time in Atlanta and the Grump is smiling in every picture, so this is a good sign! ;) All your pictures are really good too! Love the fountains and waterfalls. Did you use the new camera for all your pictures or just when you were around water?

Just the pictures taken at the pool were with the new waterproof camera, the rest were from my DSLR. I've got lots more coming up from our pool time in Orlando and from Nassau & Castaway Cay so you'll get a better idea of the kind of photos it takes :thumbsup2

I am the same exact way about road trips. Even the five-hour drive to Tybee about did me in. I am just too anxious to get where we are headed.

I hope Don decided to do the World of Coke and the Georgia Aquarium the next day!

Our bellhop told us we had a great view and he wasn't kidding, I was very pleased!

Isn't it funny how we never visit the things in our own backyard? I had never visited the memorial from the Murrah Building bombing until just a few years ago, and then I went because we had family in town that wanted to see it.

No, I didn't notice the Georgia State buildings - I think by that time I was in a boredom induced haze :lmao:

Hi Tina, thanks for joining in!

Thank you for the compliment on my boys. My oldest has always been very photogenic - cost me a fortune buying pictures when he was younger because he never took a bad one and I had to buy them all. Now he can turn on the charm when he wants to, sometimes he's all pouty before and after a photo, but he's all smiles when the camera goes up

I think if I could get to WDW in a day I'd be willing to drive again, and I've learned to never say never, but I would prefer to never do 21 hours in the car again!

I agree the drive from Little Rock to Memphis on I-40, is not a fun drive. Getting through Memphis is an adventure also. Of course nothing beats I-285 around Atlanta for adventurous drivers. I-75 through Atlanta is not that bad, there is not as many trucks.

The one thing we really liked about I-75 in Georgia was that it was 6 lanes and trucks were not allowed in the left lane :yay: Seriously, we were so excited about that, tells you how much they had been getting on our nerves up until that point
