Could the Dream Turn the Grump into a Believer? Charleston Update 10/13

On occasion it can be quite challenging living with a Disney resister, especially when the subject of family vacations comes up. When a Disney destination is mentioned the resister will roll his eyes and sigh. Sometimes the mentioning will be completely ignored, other times it is met with anger and frustration. Talks can be civil, at times, but they can also lead to tears. Yes, this is the life I lead as the wife of a Disney resister.

Hi, my name is Michelle, and while I live with this affliction, I must say that I often get my way, as was the case with our most recent adventure. The Resister did not want a Disney vacation this year, but somehow I was able to convince him that 2 nights at Animal Kingdom Lodge, followed by 4 nights on board the Disney Dream was a good idea - yay me! :cheer2:

Lets learn a little bit more about the cast, shall we? We'll start with yours truly. As I said before, my name is Michelle, and up until quite recently I was a stay at home mom to two boys. I have recently decided to go back to work and am using my love of Disney to do that. I have just become an Authorized Disney Destination Specialist - sounds fancy, huh? ;) It just means that I'm a travel agent specializing in Disney vacations, so far I'm really enjoying it! When I'm not learning about all things Disney, I spend my time hauling my boys around, watching their sporting events and volunteering at their schools.

The Resister has a name, Don, and as you have gathered, he never drank the Disney kool-aid. He doesn't hate it, he just doesn't love it. He wants to go someplace else, give his vacation money to someone else, do something else..... sigh. :sad1: He has a very demanding job, works many hours and travels a lot. I get his need to relax on vacation, and I understand how I have erred in the past by not making our Disney vacations very relaxing (I'm a doer, not a sitter), I was really hoping to correct that with this trip. Would I succeed???

Here is a photo of Don & I from this trip, taken at Jiko

We have two boys. Justin turned 15 in April and has already got a countdown going until he can get his driver's permit - I am sooooo not ready for that! He will be a sophomore in high school in the fall and plays both basketball and baseball. He is also a good student, especially in math, which is baffling to me because I hated math! He's a good kid and we are quite proud of him! Of course, he is a teenager, and he has his moments.....

The baby of the family is Jared, he is 10. He also loves sports, playing baseball, basketball and football. He's an 'A' student at school, but I am most proud of the fact that every year he has received the citizenship award for good behavior. He is a teacher's dream and I have had more than one tell me that. But, he can also drive us nuts, as good as he is at school, he is a talker at home. He talks, talks, talks, talks and he has a fearless streak that makes me very nervous - all the blond in my hair, yeah, that's covering up the gray that I'm sure can be attributed back to him.

So that is us in a nutshell, here is just a quick peak at our plans just in case you didn't read my PTR:

We decided to drive...........from Oklahoma...........it's a long way............

We had a 2 night stop over planned in Atlanta, followed by the Disney portion of our trip (2 nights at AKL and 4 nights on the Dream), then a day was planned for Kennedy Space Center before we started the long trek back home. Hope you'll stick around!

Joining in on the fun. Maybe I will learn a few tips on how to get my DH back to Disney soon. I promised him a year off.

Here! And first while riding on the monorail!!!

Show off! :lmao:

Yay! Anita's first :cheer2:

I suppose you were on the monorail too.......

Joining in on the fun. Maybe I will learn a few tips on how to get my DH back to Disney soon. I promised him a year off.

Thanks for joining in!! It's hard to think of a year with no Disney isn't it? I'm ready to book the next trip before I even leave Disney property!

Looking very forward to reading along! :cool1:

And I'm looking very forward to sharing it with you! Thanks for being here MeMom!

So thats what I need to call my DH. :rotfl: he sounds kind of like yours...we get the rolled eyes, sometime civila talk and then sometimes anger. Good thing I have a vute DD to help me persuade him.
And I'm a doer too, while my DH would like more resting.
I can't wait to read more. When we originally were planning to go in Dec on the Wonder, we had planned the night before at AKL, but then it all fell through and with no PIN for March, I couldn't justify the cost.

I'm in! As the wife of a Resister, I too am tired of the eye rolling!!!!! :lmao:

I think Don will realy like DCL. My DH did. It's got all the flair of Disney, but without the exhaustion. And doing a land/sea combo was a good compromise for us. Have a great time!!!!!

Okay, I'm in! I'm glad to get to join from the start!! Now, I shall actually read the first post!

Rub it in Wigd and Shocker, just rub it in...

Don looks pretty happy in that picture - he must have enjoyed Jiko a little bit!
Very handsome young men you have there too! What a lovely family!

Okay. Let's hear about this really long road trip from OK. I'll see if it compares to my really long road trip from MN!

Great start! I love that you call your DH a resister. :rotfl: Great way to put it. I'm a bit more lucky, as Ben likes Disney, just not to the level I do.

Can't wait to hear all about your adventure...I think a cruise it on the list to do in a few years....like 5-6.

I'm totally in! Can't wait to hear how this story ends. I want to know sooooo bad what he thought of the cruise, but I know I'll have to wait!

SoonerGirl, I'm already loving this report! I'd say our families are very similarly situated (except we have THREE boys - ages pre-school to pre-teen.) Our plan for August is similar to yours: two nights at BWI, 3-night Dream and one night at BC!

Can't wait to hear more!

Cool, I've been waiting for your TR. I'm subbing & now back to start reading!
Doris
Whose Tulsa GDs will be taking their first ever trip to WDW in Sept. with me!:cheer2:

Hey Michelle!!! I am here!!! YAY! :yay: Not first page but at least second!!! Can't wait to hear all about your fabulous cruise and all the fun you guys had!!!! Congrats on all your new fun with the TA work, and I LOVE your new photo bar, soo cute!!! I am sure you have some great stories... hopefully no stories about lounge chairs.. :lmao:

Unable to RESIST subbing in :goodvibes

Looking forward to seeing how "Resistance was Futile" for Don.

Subscribing to this TR...can't wait to read about how your trip was!!:goodvibes
