Are those new light weight tennis shoes good for Disney walking?

I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED all my lightweight sneakers! I had the Nike Free's (my fave) and several pairs of Skechers for work. I loved them all until the beginning of this year and started getting this pain in my foot...bad pain, like severe limping. I spent 6+ weeks in an aircast, had an MRI and...

Looking for new ideas to save

I've found that a great way to see where you can save money is to take a look at what you're throwing away. Paper plates, plastic utensils, ziplocs, paper towels, dryer sheets, small bottles of shampoo when larger bottles could be bought for less, store bought cleaners, etc.

    Debt Dumpers - 2013

I misread your post, sorry. I thought you had recurring credit card debt. I would still change your withholding and make sure you devise a plant to track your spending. Those 2 things could make an immediate impact.

    Debt Dumpers - 2013

this sentence shouldn't be overlooked. If you are getting large refunds every year and using them to pay off credit cards that indicates two problems. One - you're withholding rate is too high and you need to adjust it. This will help your cash flow right away. Two - if you're racking up...

Any place or way to purchase Disney Gift Cards at a Discount or with Rewards?

It doesn't have to be a CC, I have their debit card and still enjoy the discount. It comes directly out of my checking account the same way as if I had written a check or used my bank debit card.

    tax experts- giftcards as incentives

But, no matter how you slice it...you still paid less tax than the value of the gift card. In the example above, you paid $10 in tax for a $35 gift card leaving you with a net of $25. Think of it another way, would you turn down a $35 bonus if you knew taxes were going to be withdrawn...

    Traveling with Pets?

If you decide to leave them at home, I found this great site www.dogvacay.com. It's a listing of people who dogsit in their home. I found a GREAT dogsitter to watch my lil boy when we travel. She spoils him like crazy, he gets to play with her 3 little dogs and then they all sleep in her bed...

Is a tax preparer worth it?

Generically speaking, I agree with that. My bigger point is that you are ultimately responsible for what is filed with the IRS. Regardless of who prepares your return, you need to make sure that the information is accurate and defendable in the event of an audit. Just because a CPA does your...

Is a tax preparer worth it?

FWIW, my parents took their CRAZY simple return to H&R Block for years. They hit an extremely rough patch financially so I jumped in and took over. One of the first things I began doing was their tax returns. First year out I found that Block was missing a pretty big deduction and we ended up...

Is a tax preparer worth it?

I think it depends on the complexity of your situation, but for most people I would say that it's not worth the additional expense. I've done my taxes myself every year except one, and that's the one that the IRS has chosen to audit. I've gotten very little benefit from the $500 I paid this...

    Debt Dumpers - 2013

When I did our modified DR plan several years ago, we only adjusted our 401k contributions down to the company match. In your husband's case...wow, 12% match is huge! I know you're trying to pay down your debt, but you're leaving a 100% return just sit on the table. I would reinstate at least...

    Debt Dumpers - 2013

You mention that the principle isn't moving the way you want it to...are you marking the extra funds to be applied to principle? They may be applying it to your next payment obligation. The best way to pay extra on your principal is to write a separate check and send it with a note stating...

    Debt Dumpers - 2013

I'm not trying to take the thread off topic, but a good place to start is to look at your trash. What are you throwing away? Paper towels? Paper napkins? You can use cloth for both of these and eliminate the cost. Household cleaners often have alternative home made recipes that work just as...

    What to do

Buy the car outright...leasing is rarely a good idea. With the lease, you'll have a monthly payment. Buying a car outright keeps your monthly cash-flow neutral.

Do you have an air purifier?

Dust mites no...but it will help clean the air. Indoor air quality is usually worse than outdoor due to carpets, cleaning chemicals, etc.. Strong smells are a major trigger for me too. For dust mites, I've gotten covers for the mattresses and pillows and that seemed to help. I've been...

Crown Financial Ministries, Now thinking CareOne Debt Management?

My mom worked with Consumer Credit Counseling to have a similar service provided. Her accounts were flagged as "managed by credit management company" (or something similar) and that's what hurt the score. You can do this on your own. If you have them pay your debts (after you've paid them)...

Has anyone worked with a credit repair service?

I agree that saving the monthly fee is a good idea, but opening a new credit card right now would do more harm than good. Follow the other's advice, go to creditboards.com. Dispute any incorrect items on your credit report, send goodwill letters on others that have minor negative charges...
