our first DREAM cruise....does this mean we're pirates?

Hi Lori! I'm following along on your PTR popcorn::
We did this exact same cruise this past September, almost your exact same dates! Ours was the 4 night sailing on Sept. 20 and we absolutely loved it! Feel free to ask me any questions you may have!

Just a couple of things..
No Avengers Academy on the Dream but the kids clubs are fantastic
We opted to do the harbor cruise in Nassau and it was fine but next time we will stay on the Ship, there is so much to do your 4 days will fly by!
Lots of people dress up for Halloween night as well as Pirate Night ( I'm assuming your on a Halloween on the High Seas cruise)
Character meets on the ship are so much more low key than in the parks, but you can line up 10-15 minutes before their scheduled time, check your daily navigator or the boards posted in the main atrium for times
We stayed 3 nights at AoA resort pre-cruise and rented a car in Orlando and turned it in at the rental car place close to the cruise terminal. There are a couple of rental companies that don't charge extra for "one way" rentals. Coming off the ship we went back to rental car company and drove to Miami and turned the car back in 4 hours later, for us it was a more affordable option then a shuttle or the DCL bus.

Again, feel free to ask anything! You're going to love it!!! BTW don't you love the DCL countdown app??? So cool!

Hi, Lori! I'm onboard! (Ship humor! Love it!) :cutie:

What's your nightly budget for a hotel room (or two)? I have quite a few that I am familiar with in the Orlando area (travel agent, remember?), but if you can give me a budget, I can throw some ideas and maybe even booking links out there for ya. :goodvibes

Hooray for booking airfare!

Love your play list! I got a second job just to pay for Disney and all I listen to when I'm working there is Disney songs, so I remember what I am doing it for. It makes it so much more enjoyable!

Wow, the horn tunes are so cool! How fun!

That Aquaduck looks like a blast, the clear tubes and looking out into the water is so neat!

Ooh Legoland, that sounds awesome!

Looking forward to sewing pictures :)

So I've been away from this for a bit (sorry) so quite a few posts to comment on

Love the pirate wraps! Such a smart idea and definitely something you could use after the cruise as well. I like your pirate shirt too - like you said, fits the theme but is still simple

I love you play list and very cool that you found the steel drum version of the Disney songs. I recently got a CD from Los Lobos doing Disney songs. Not quite Caribbean, but a bit south of the border feel to them as well:

As far as your phone, just put it on airplane mode and then everything else should work fine - if you want to take pictures, check the time, play music, play games, etc. - as long as the specific app doesn't require an internet connection you should be fine.

So i just stole two of your songs for our playlist!
thanks! HA HA! I do love your list think it will be awesome for your drive!!!

awesome!! which ones did you like?

That's cool about making a playlist! I know that helps add to the excitement as it is! :) I SO can't wait until we are planning another trip.. Looks like it will be close to 2017 for us with a new baby though! :(

I have some strange fascination with making playlists for everything. life needs a soundtrack, right? :rockband: well, a baby is a pretty good trade off! :D

:welcome: and thanks for all the tips! I LOVE that countdown app!

yay! i'm so glad you made it over! and you know I love some ship humor!!

so, a budget for the hotel....i'm ok with $125ish, a little more, a little less. I think the nickelodeon hotel was $140 a night, which I was fine with. what I really want for this trip is convenience, that's why I was looking at the airport hyatt (or whatever it is, drawing a blank right now). that seems so easy--when we get to the airport, we're there, easy to get a rental car, easy to meet the van to port. BUT--since you are the travel agent pro, if you have any better (money saving) ideas, i'm all ears! thanks for any advice!

Hooray for booking airfare!

I just love a Disney playlist! if you have any suggestions, i'd love to hear them!

I can't wait for that aquaduck! and LEGOLAND! I wish we could go now!!!!

So I've been away from this for a bit (sorry) so quite a few posts to comment on

thanks for the tips on the phone. I am sadly addicted to my phone.....darn you, technology!

oh my gosh! I LOVE that video clip! and so did the kids! we might have to get a new CD!

sorry for the long absence. I promise I didn't fall overboard! just wanted to have something to show you all before I got on again. it's really a lot different planning a cruise vs planning a WDW trip. there just isn't a lot to do before you pay everything off and get to the date where you can make plans.

While I've been out, I did pick up some things for our Castaway Cay day. I thought these would be ok since they won't take up a lot of luggage space on the way down. I think we'll probably bring them home, but if they have to be sacrificed for souvenir space, I won't be that upset either. I got the girls rings to float in, a beach ball, and a nemo wannabe toy. I keep seeing sand toys that I think would be fun, but hate the thought of lugging them down.

I have been up to some crafty stuff to help pass the time.

First, I made some shoes for Mrs. X. Cinderella is her favorite princess, so I thought she needed some custom footwear for the trip. These are the first shoes I have painted. They turned out pretty good, but I don't think I'll attempt any others. Painting is not my thing and painting shoes is way harder then I thought it would be.

I also made a couple of maxi skirts. so excited to wear these! they are so comfy, I don't know why I didn't make some sooner! The black one is for whenever. The striped one is for our arrival day. I'm making matching shirts for the X's and us to wear.

These aren't quite finished but I thought i'd show them anyway. These are for the characters to sign. I liked doing pillowcases for our last trip and since we actually use them, I like them even more. I still need to add "SWEET DISNEY DREAMS 2015" along the anchor fabric.

Now for the most exciting picture! I finished our costumes for the Halloween party!!! i wanted something easy, but fun, so we're Monster's Inc! Rich and Hannah are CDA (child detection agency) agents. Hannah is 001 (Roz--i'm watching you, ALWAYS watching you) and Rich is agent number 111903. he wanted to know where i got the number from, so i reminded him it was the date he proposed! (i didn't remember the date either. i had to look it up on the pictures, but don't tell him! we got engaged at disney so i thought that was a good date to use!) Madison had to be Mike Wazowski (which she can't say and it's super cute to hear her try) WITH a tutu, so there ya go. I'm the monster George who comes through the door with a sock on his back. i really hope someone yells out "2319!"

we are so excited about this--maybe DH and me more then the girls! There is a pumpkin tree based on the one from the story by Ray Bradbury that Rich loves, and we both adore Halloween. i'm excited to see the ship all decorated and go to the party....if it's anything like Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween party that we did on our last trip, i'm gonna LOVE it! here are some pics of the party that I snagged from the interwebs.....

and did I mention that you get to meet jack and sally?!!? i'll try my hardest not to faint from excitement!

I just can't wait! only 141 more days!

I think you did a great job with the shoes! And you costumes are a great idea! Super creative but not too crazy/tons of special clothes to bring.

Trying to get back to reading all the tr/ptrs I'm following and I saw yours first!
You got a lot accopmlished! I love it h shoes! The Halloween costumes are super cute and perfect for traveling! I also really like your maxi skirts cute and comfortable... The perfect combo.

The cruise party pics look awesome. It's going to be fun!

What great outfits and costumes! I'm not crafty AT ALL, and I so admire people who are! And the Monsters Inc. choices are all so very clever! :thumbsup2

i made some pirate-y cover ups for Hannah, Maddie, C and L. i've never really appliqued before, so they're not perfect, but i think they turned out pretty well! Maddie and L will match and Hannah and C will match.

fronts....

backs....

with the hood down....

You MADE these?! They look so good!:goodvibes

and since i'm talking pool....here's the new swimsuit i got for the trip. i thought it was just too cute and so Minnie-ish! the white dots actually have a black ring around them too. (excuse the dog toy in the background....)

Disneybounding!!! Love it :goodvibes

Back again! Just couldn't resist sharing these pictures. We put up our countdown paper chain tonight! We used these that I got from thepurplepumpkinblog.co.uk for the last 50 days. She had villains, classic characters and princesses. The girls love them and I think they're super cute!

I've been on three cruises over the years but none of them Disney, I'm excited to read all about your plans and hope you also do a TR!

The shoes are so cute! I think they turned out really great! I admire you crafty folks!
If I remember correctly the Jack and Sally meet and greet is after the Nightmare Before Christmas sing and scream showing in the movie theater. Of course they could do things differently this year :scratchin. I didn't make it to the showing but my DH took our youngest and they had fun.
Love your Monsters costumes, of course anything with a tutu is A+ in my book!

I think you did a great job with the shoes! And you costumes are a great idea! Super creative but not too crazy/tons of special clothes to bring.

thanks! yes, I was going for something that would take up the least amount of suitcase space since i'm sure things will be tight! :crowded:

well, I guess I can forgive your lateness considering you're just DAYS away from your trip! :cool1:

I love doing playlists for parties and trips. I get some strange satisfaction from it.....

I will be doing a TR! we don't have another Disney trip planned until we go to WDW in January 2017 with my best friend since kindergarten and her family. i'll need to relive the magic for as long as possible!

The shoes are so cute! I think they turned out really great! I admire you crafty folks!

thanks! crafts (more sewing and crochet, but making anything really) is what helps me keep my sanity!

I think I read the same thing about jack and sally's meet. I hope they do it again--I love that movie and would LOVE to meet them (even if Jack's head is a little....different)

our youngest is definitely a girly girl. she was fine with going as a Monsters inc character as long as she could have a tutu. I get it though--i'd wear a tiara everyday if I could!

Just a question if any one knows--what nights are what parties? For instance, is pirate night usually on your day at sea? Is the Halloween party usually after your day at port? It doesn't really matter, I know, I was just curious and wondered. Thanks for any info!

On our cruise ( 4 nights) I believe Halloween party was the night we left from Nassau ( night 2) and the Pirate party was on Castaway Cay night (night 3)

Hi Lori! I'm joining in, or should I say.. Jumping On Board!

Love your PTR so far- I went on the Disney cruise when I was I think 10 with my Dad & the most I remember about it was all the kid areas where adults weren't allowed! I remember one night at them we made Flubber!

The towels you made are so great!

I didn't realize they do a Halloween party on them, your costumes ARE SO CUTE! Love the idea. You are very talented!

I also adore your bathing suit & maxi skirts!

I want to eventually go on the Disney Cruise, but it would just be me & my fiance so I don't know if we should wait to go with kids. We actually were thinking of going to the Bahamas for ~4 day for our honeymoon and then to WDW for the rest of it..so a Disney Cruise could possibly work for that too.

Look forward to reading more!
