April 2015 Car Rental Codes

Love the rate drops! We're heading to the Keys over April vacation, and we now have a convertible through Alamo, picking up & dropping off in Ft. Lauderdale, 4/10 - 4/19, for $333.55!

National prices have finally gone down (for April 4-11, at least). I couldn't get any of the coupons to work at MCO though ("capacity limit" or something like that).

I thought this was weird....We're flying in on a Friday night and staying in a hotel very near the airport (for just the first night). We were going to pick up a rental car on Saturday morning and just use the hotel courtesy shuttle on Friday night. But when I looked into picking up the car on Friday night it was nearly $40 CHEAPER. Overall, the reservation I made last night is $150 cheaper than what I booked about a month ago.

I'm still getting over $400 for those dates on the exec aisle - you did better than that?

Thank you everyone for posting about the price drops. I booked today with Budget.

4/19-4/24 out of MCO

full size for $135.04 including taxes and fees.

BCD: D464700
COUPON: MUGZ165
($35 off)

Found the coupons on retail me not.

I've been getting quotes like that on the Emerald Aisle for my dates in mid-April -- I mean, way above $400 for a mid-size car for a week. Unreal.

But when I look for quotes using different contract codes/coupons (without signing in with my EA number), the rates are often lower (though still too high). Odd, and bothersome.

I finally found a National weekly rate for $109 (all-in) picking up at Buena Vista Palace and dropping off at MCO. So we'll take ME to the hotel and just pick up the car the next day by taking the DTD boat down from POR.

So if you can be at all flexible on your pickup locations/times, you might find something better. Good luck.

Are there any specific eligibility requirements for that BCD? I see it referenced in many places, but never with an explanation of its origin.

I just checked again and I see the rate is back up. I must have got lucky when I was making my new reservation on Saturday.

If you're looking for a mini van, I think the prices are finally coming down. I just reserved one with Alamo (using Costco's website) for 6 days + 6 hours for $220. This is by far the best I've seen so far!

Now I just need to decide which reservation to keep, the $105 intermediate or the $220 minivan. Not sure if the extra space is worth twice the cost?!

How low did you get it. Its down to about 340 today but still way too high for me to consider with my existing 140 reservation through Dollar. Running out of time...

I got a midsize down to $305 with all taxes and fees. This was even beating what I could get from Budget (for a full-size). I keep checking my National reservation to make sure I didn't screw up my dates or something.

Just found a Verizon Wireless code for National (5901509). Cannot find any information on this code elsewhere. Anyone ever used this? Is this supposed to be limited to Verizon employees only (nowhere does it denote that - the code simply pops up as "Verizon Wireless" and we are Verizon Wireless customers).

Gets the Emerald Aisle down to 220 all in for 4/4 - 4/11. Might do that.

I believe the code is for VZW employees. I have a similar corporate code for my company that we are allowed to use for personal travel as well as work trips. At National, I have never been asked for proof of employment. I always use the aisle and skip the counter. YMMV. Keep in mind that if you use a code that you are not entitled to, and there is damage/an accident, you may run into trouble with insurance.

If you google National car rental codes there is a link to one of the saver blogs (dan's deals maybe?) that has a very long list of codes and some additional info for some of them.

ETA - if it is a corporate code, try selecting a few different car classes. Ours allows us to select full but we're charged for mid size. If you're going to use it you may as well get full advantage.

I was planning on reserving with my starwood amex, which covers my rental insurance - will there still be any issues?

Maybe you qualify for one of the other codes. Check out the slickdeals thread or mousesavers - some of the airline codes you only have to be a member of the frequent flyer programs to qualify. Also try the magicard code on Alamo from mousesavers. It was better than my corporate discount and better than the amex platinum code.

So far, my best rates for a minivan for April 12-18 have been through Car Rental Savers for Alamo. Is there any downside of renting through Car Rental Savers instead of renting directly with Alamo? Can I still use either the kiosk, or is there a way to skip the counter? I also got the same rate directly with Budget and am wondering if I should just use them?

I've been following this thread for a while....finally have something to post! Just booked minivan through Alamo for April 18 - 24, MCO, using Costco and $30 off coupon, $232 all in. Includes extra driver. Previous cost for me was $265 using Vroom Vroom code.
We are splitting the cost with another family so that makes it even lower for us. I will continue to check just in case but I'm happy with this rate!
