MAY 2015 Car Rentals

Dollar is about $10 cheaper than Alamo (with the Costco code) but we have an 8 passenger van we'd like to keep with Alamo. We don't really need it, but it would save on parking (2 versus 3 vehicles). For now, I'm holding on to alamo I guess.

I had a few plan changes. I was worried modifying my current reservation would cost a lot since I haven't been able to find any lower prices yet.

Our original plan was to drop it off at the airport after our Disney leg and shuttle to our Universal stop. We didn't want to pay for parking at Universal when we won't really be using the car. Luckily, I was able to modify the drop off point, closer to universal, and add a couple of hours with only $21 in extra costs for the two of us, $167 for May 2-10 through Alamo. We still require a shuttle back but the overall cost is about the same without the extra time added by the airport trip.

If you have a good deal, don't be afraid to modify if you need to.

Alamo prices went down on the Fullsize Crossover and Standard SUV. Saved another $40 using the Costco code and the VISA coupon. :cool1:

I'm still keeping track of prices for Alamo for the second half of May. Right now minivans are cheaper than economy, compact, etc. For anyone who has been looking for a minivan, its showing a two week rental (5/15-5/28) 7-passenger minivan for $478 (without discounts yet).

I used the Passholder rate and Visa $30 coupon on Alamo and got a small SUV for $269 for May 8-19. Pumped because I was going to attempt E-Z Rent a car for the first time at $263 for a compact and was getting nervous about that!

That's a great rate considering what I've been seeing. I'm there a little later in the month and hopeful mine will come down too.

Well, I spoke too soon! I just checked again today, and the rental price for the mid-sized SUV is down to $190 from Saturday through the following Sunday. It dropped by $50 just in the last few days. I used my Costco discount plus the Visa Coupon.

Just made my rental reservation for May trip. 5/21-5/26. Dollar midsize using Dollar express and AAA rate. $161.12 (Comes up as a weekly rental). Plenty of time for price changes between now and then.

Dollar rates for my dates have dropped like a stone this morning. My 8 day rental of a full size May 1st to 8th inclusive is now $147.66 taxes in.

My boss's dates.....May 3rd to 10th, virtually identical pick up and drop off times....still way, way high.

Interestingly enough, I can book the Dollar rates via the RBC Rewards site for even less.....$146.19, and that's in CANADIAN funds (which will save me about 28%, or an additional $40+ in exchange). I have temporarily booked via Dollar US site, but might pull the trigger on the rental via the RBC site later tonight. I just want to confirm with DH that he wants to stick with the full size and not upgrade to an SUV (it would only be $218 CDN).

Glad yours went down. Mine is the same...

Well, I bit. Fullsize, with Dollar, 8 days, $113.94 Canadian (via RBC Rewards website, and using $32 in RBC Rewards points). I can't imagine it is going to get any better than that.

I am now on the hunt for a similarly awesome price for my boss's trip!

what an amazing price Gina! I'm still seeing $171 with dollar. hoping my dates drop in another week or so too

btw, what is "RBC"?

Royal Bank (of Canada). One of the "big 5" banks up here in the Great White North.

Gotcha!

ran the WDW AP code for Alamo & saw mid size for $123 (131 w/SWA rewards) for my dates. Now need to decide if the standard (full size) is worth it for price I have booked currently @ $159.

We would have much preferred Alamo, but their prices were WAY higher than Dollar. Much as I love being able to pick our own car, the Dollar price was too good to let go.

Alamo better not drop their prices now or I'll be totaly annoyed!! lol

Just booked today.....April 30the to May 10th for $165.00 with dollar don't think I'll get any better than that!! Anyone looking I got that rate at www carrentalsavers com!

Decided to try it out to see if we could save anything. Saw a mid-size for $235 for the entire length of our trip(May 2-16) through Dollar. We weren't going to do a full trip rental but even with the universal parking fee it's a pretty good deal.

Thanks!

Are you using some particular code with Dollar? I plugged both of these trip dates into carentalsavers and got these prices:
May 2-16 $374 compact versus $235
April 30 - May 10 $192 compact versus $165

both were for compact cars pickup and drop off at noon which was the least expensive car for both trips through Dollar but the prices I'm getting are significantly more

Renting May 1-9 from Tampa (TPA). Minivan prices came down a little w Alamo (Costco discount includes extra driver). Down to $264. Also have a full size w Alamo $156. We don't really need a minivan but like the extra space for the luggage. How is the selection on the full size aisle at TPA compared to MCO? Last year in May we were lucky and found a minivan on the full size aisle, but that was Orlando. Have never flown into TPA.

I didn't do a code but I checked again this morning and prices do look like they have gone up. Compact and economy were 233 when I was checking the first time and it doesn't even look like economy is available anymore( and compact is 371).

Hopefully you find another drop.
