Coolest Thing at WDW it took you several trips to find...

Being at AK at dusk and seeing all the birds fly in to nest in the trees along the river that surrounds the Island of Discovery. I think we were crossing the bridge from Africa at the time and it was such a cool sight!

Another note re Flights of Wonder - get there early and you may see a CM come outside of the theatre with a bird to do a little informative pre-show.

In the show, some of the birds will fly out over the audience, sometimes very low - on my first visit to the show, "Baby Elvis" flew from the back of the theatre to the stage right over my head! Whoosh! I was hooked. I've never volunteered for any of these, but there are points in the show where they will get volunteers in the audience to hold something for a bird to retrieve, or come on stage to photograph a bird in flight.

What are some of the hidden gems at WDW you have found that you didn't know existed until at least your second or third trip?

For instance, it wasn't until our third week long trip that we found the cool stream and wooden walkway that runs along the back of the Canada pavilion in EPCOT. It was very quiet and there was almost no one there. It offers a nice quiet escape from an otherwise crowded park day, with a pond and garden at one end, and a waterfall at the other. Now we spend some time back there on every trip!

Animation Studio in HS
I found out about it reading a trip report here.

We were lucky enough to have found this the first time ever in (then MGM). We have compiled over 30 drawings each over the years now. We often do back-to-back-to-back "classes" now if we can get into the one opening when we exit.

In case you ever find yourself without a rubber band, we discovered magic bands work great for holding the drawings!

The taco salad at Pecos Bills. Well, really, Pecos Bills in general. We've had APs for a few years, and just found/made time for it sometime last year. Also, in AK there is a little stone 'room' with some benches and a table in it next to the coffee shop. That is one of my favorite places in the World.
Fwiw, Pecos Bills no longer serves the Taco Salad :( It is still available for lunch at Tortuga. (Which turned out to be a nice place over Christmas, eating outside, a few little Palm trees nearby and the parade going in the background)

After several failed trips worth of intending to find them, last time at WDW I finally found both the "Singing in the Rain" umbrella at DHS and the terracotta warriors exhibit in China.

You had me at 'Terracotta warriors'. Def checking that out! I was so bummed I missed the exhibit when the real ones were in NYC back in 2012. Epcot China's terracotta warriors are close enough. ;-)

We love the kidkot game in Epcot - kids (and adults) can color a duffy bear or agent P and take it to a castmember station at each of the world showcase pavilions and get it stamped from their country. My 3 yo LOVES this, and it keeps him engaged enough that I can enjoy world showcase without him getting bored. It quickly made Epcot go from our least favorite park to one of our favorites! We're headed down in a couple of weeks, and I can't wait to try the passport they have for the flower and garden festival!

I feel stupid saying mine, but on our last trip we discovered the path from Barnstormer to Space Mountain. Can't begin to count the number of times we took the long way around.

tbia - no need to feel stupid. It took us a couple of trips to figure that one out as well. And I'm pretty sure there are plenty of others that do not know about it as well, as the path is usually pretty quiet, which is why we like it.

It also took us a while to learn about all the behind the scene tours you can take. Most are a bit expensive but we have never been disappointed.

I seem to recall a talking water fountain that we stumbled upon at Epcot years ago. Not sure if it's still there, but it was a fun little surprise.

Waking up Tink in the store off the castle was a cute find, but unfortunately I don't think they do that anymore.

I never really noticed the Citizens of Hollywood at DHS until recently, mostly because we were too busy trying to get from one ride/show to the next. But now we stop and take a break in the middle of the day to watch the improv and I love how they interact with guests.

I know :( We were so disappointed in November when they told us that. I did hear a rumor that they brought it back though.
As a side note, we've also only managed to catch Tortuga open once or twice. We go at off times, and I'm pretty sure that I'm destined to never have the french fries at the Outpost.

We did the Behind the Seeds tour on the last trip and really enjoyed it. Definitely worth the price - it was only about $65 for 4 people with the Disney Visa discount.
Animation Academy for sure!
Truly exploring not only your own hotel property but also those you visit for a meal! We wander the savannahs at AK, listen to the piano/orchestra at GF, laugh with Yehaa Bob at POR, played some ping pong at the pool at CS.
This last trip we hit a bunch of new rides that we had previously passed up, like the Jungle Cruise and Carousel of Progress. I am sure tons of people don't find them new, but I think we all skip things to make time for the big ticket items and then discover those "small" attractions make just as big of a memory.

Its so empty and looks like "employees only". So don't feel stupid.

I love that

I love that little spot! We bought one if the amazing cupcakes at Kusafari (elephant) and shared it there I can't wait to do it again

I'd like to add something off piste. The best thing I discovered before I even went. We were at a friend's BBQ in 1994 and his brother heard we were off to WDW and he advised me to buy annual passes. I didn't even know they existed. At the time the only thing we in the UK could buy were 7 day passes. He said that once we'd been, we would want to go back, so I bought them. It was the best advice I'd been given and the best decision I ever made.

Not sure this counts, but:

I would've never believed in the value of "pool time" before I went with a 20-year-old who insisted on a few hours lounging in the sun each day. The Hippy Dippy pool at Pop became as much a part of our trip as the parks, and I honestly loved it. There are games and skits run by the CMs at that pool, so it was both relaxing and entertaining. I now miss the Hippy Dippy pool just as often as I miss other attractions.
