:mickeybarAny foods you've given up for health reasons? This could include anything from deadly allergies to perceived intolerance to simply stuff that "doesn't agree" with you. (Not really talking about foods you just don't like though - that's what the original thread was about.)

I've got wicked-bad acid reflux :scared: - it takes daily prescription meds and lots of OTC stuff to keep it in check, no matter what I eat. Certain things are simply unbearable though. I put myself through torture (and an inevitable sleepless night) if I eat anything deep-fried. Gawd I miss doughnuts! Anything heavy on cinnamon is also a problem and weirdly anything with chili powder, although I can tolerate cumin, garlic, paprika and ground hot pepper all separately in reasonable quantities.

Over the last few years, I've become less and less able to tolerate anything fatty, or meaty. I can't eat a sirloin steak any more. And I can only tolerate so much of stuff like burgers, fries, mac and cheese, etc. It seems I mostly want just veggies and a little lean meat, like chicken breast.

But, it's probably because that little flap that sits between your stomach and your esophagus is congenitally malformed in me. It doesn't close all the way, and never has. I had wicked stomachaches as a kid, which everyone ignored (because who ever listens to a kid who is telling you their tummy hurts?). It wasn't until I was a young adult that my friends began to comment on how often I was laid up in pain and pushed me to see a doctor. After sticking a camera into me to look around, they put me on meds for about six months and then told me to eat low fat and don't try to lie down right away after eating.

So, I assume that this is just another side effect of that, since it feels very similar.

Also, I try to avoid anything with MSG, because it seems to trigger my migraines. But, I have no science to back that up. I just always seem to end up with a couple days of headache after eating chips or other similarly MSG-laden stuff.

ANY water dwelling creature: crawfish, alligator, all fish, shrimp, oysters, clams, calimari, scallops, lobster, crab, anchovies, sardines etc etc. For all of my life the smell alone brings on uncontrollable gagging fits. Trying to eat even a tiny piece of any of it is worse. Thus far, I can tolerate store bought Caesar dressing and that at chain restaurants. At places where it is homemade, it's a toss up if I can pick up the anchovy or not. Even fish paste is a no go.

Eating in seafood restaurants is a task. I usually have to put perfume on my nose and wear a higher necked shirt doused with it. If anyone in the house wants to cook it, it must be done while I'm on a multi-day trip so the house can air out. And forget me being sociable (or usually attending) a fish fry or shrimp boil.

It's not an allergy, so when people hear about it they just tell me to eat some and I'll get over it.....nope, doesn't work.

I have celiac so just gluten for me. Also can't eat large quantities of raw apples and raw almonds due to oral allergy syndrome, but I do it anyway because I love apples.

There is nothing I can't eat.
I have no food allergies nor does anything bother my stomach so much that I CAN'T eat it.

I can't eat scallops. I used to love them, but something in my system changed after I had DS, and they now make me violently ill. I assume it's an "intolerance" rather than an actual allergy (as the symptoms are all stomach-related, no throat closing) but I've definitely given them up.

I can't eat raw almonds, fresh peaches, cherries, plums, and nectarines. If they are processed, cooked, or canned I am fine!

I had to give up anthing heartburn inducing -
alcohol, caffiene, chocolate, garlic, onion, tomato, citrus, pineapple, spicy food, carbonated drinks, super fatty or fried foods

It totally sucks, and I have a little bit of the forbidden items here and there, but not at all like I used to. It especially sucks because you'd think I'd easily drop some pounds giving up the chocolate, alcohol, and fried stuff, but nope.

Jalepenos, and large quantities of other peppers. I end up with the worst stomach cramping and ibs problems for a day or so after them. Started a year or so ago. My mom had similar issues, and so do her sisters. It's more of an intolerance than an allergy. Dang I love some spicy Cheetos after a couple glasses of wine, but they don't love me!! Lol

The last 2 times I ate seafood, I was violently ill all night. People say, oh you should just try it prepared a different way. Nope. Ain't happening. I never was a big fan anyway. I guess it's an intolerance rather than an allergy.

Due to oral allergy syndrome I can't eat bananas or tomatoes. I am blood test confirmed allergic to both in their unprocessed forms. I avoid bananas altogether because of my reaction. Melons are 50/50 and sometimes blueberries give me a hard time.

Onions.

I have a taste/texture aversion. No idea where it comes from, but even thinking about eating onions starts to make me reflexively start gagging.

I love things cooked/flavored with onions. It's just the things themselves which are a problem.

I have a disease called interstitial cystitis that can be very food sensitive. Now, I have a mild form and have been able to add back quite a few things that others with the same disease can not. The big things I have to still stay away from:

Soy
Tomatoes (I can have a very small amount)
Citrus (again, I can have a very small amount)
Caffeine
Most booze
Anything super spicy (I can do jalapenos, but that's my limit)
Cured meats
Rye or sourdough breads

I have a tree nut allergy (throat closes, get itchy eyes and sneezing if they're in the same room) so that's all out.

I have a sensitive stomach so I'm very careful with what I eat. Definitely nothing spicy or weird LOL

Green peppers hate me. Red peppers are fine though. That makes no sense to me.

They're so ubiquitous - lots of dishes just simply wouldn't be "right" without them. There was a PP upthread that mentioned pureeing the things she doesn't like and adding them to recipes. That would totally work with onions.

I have a lengthy list of foods I cannot eat, since I have dysphagia and my mouth is sensitive from radiation treatments, because I had head and neck cancer. Cannot swallow much meat, so things like steak are out. Absolutely nothing with hot peppers or anything hot and spicy, because even black pepper hurts too much. Also salt bothers me, so no potato chips or salty snacks, too burny and have trouble swallowing most hard/crunchy things. I'd probably have an easier time listing things I can eat, since it's a way shorter list. Lol
