Confirmed MSEP to stop and move to DL Oct. 9th

End all the PtN speculation. It is not coming. In it's present form it does not "fit" the park and the backstage areas both from mobility and physical size.

Thanks for the info.

Why does everyone think it has to come from disneyland for WDW to get PTN or be exactly the same parade? PTN is a HK parade and disneyland got it's own version (very close to the original but not exactly the same). Another copy of the parade could be made for WDW.

I disagree on the size but i've never really closely looked at the parades so I don't really have anything to back that up. FoF is a beast of a parade though with it's size, length of floats and height and none of the ptn videos I've watched make it look larger but again I've never really compared so it's just my initial thought with no research behind the statement.

The whole parade doesn't have to be too big. But if one or two pieces are too big I could see that being a deal-breaker.

And I think people are just skeptical that Disney will build an all-out new parade for Disney World because they have been so heavily cost-cutting lately. Honestly, if they were going to build a new one why wasn't it ready to go for October 10th?

Given that 11290 has mentioned working parades in the Magic Kingdom previously I give their post a lot of credence.

PTN isn't coming to MK from Hong Kong either.

How can you disagree on size if you don't know specifics. Festival of Fantasy was built specifically for MK, PTN was not.

Also this is just my opinion but I'd much rather have a new parade than a 3rd PTN.

There are more considerations to parades than the physical size of float on the streets, of course when they won't make turns withing the safety constraints that is a problem. but one has to take into account that MK parade route is not flat. There are some significant grade changes (some in turns) that impact the way a float travels and turns (they don't have suspension systems). For example there is a "ramp effect" going to or from the Hub / Liberty Bridge, not to mention that to get to or from the PC it has to go over a hill at the steam train tracks. DLR is flat terrain.

There are multiple "safety critical" areas that are considered to keep the guests safe. One of the MVMCP floats is long and is very tight at Confectionary corner. An additional safety zone had to be added this year for the Dragon when it comes off of Liberty Bridge. From time to time it was trying to step on guests when it made the turn so a 5' or so safety zone was put in place in the HUB area at the end of the bridge.

Just some of many other considerations as to how a parade "fits", not to even mention how it fits into the backstage picture. What happens on the streets is just a small portion of what goes into how it works.

Personally, I'm moving on to other threads. This one has been beaten down enough.

The point of my post was it doesn't have to come from anywhere not that it was coming. I'm just saying if they did decide to bring ptn to wdw it doesnt' have to be another parks version of it to do it.

well fof wasn't either or it wouldn't have required moving some viewing sections for safety and storing it in a warehouse they didn't plan in needing. I'm all for a nice discussion but I haven't seen anything posted on why it wouldn't fit except people think it wouldnt, just like I think it would comparing the floats to others that have been used in mk. I would love to hear some details and specs, I prefer the engineering behind the parks ore than their content. I've made a lot of my living (and still do) with logistics of things like this. I don't have access to these details but perhaps someone else does.

I dont' disagree, PTN is getting old or I should say lighting is advancing really fast. I do find the song catchy so I would want it just because of the music but you can put other floats in the parade that light up for me :)[/QUOTE]

fair question, I do agree it was built to be a MK parade however i'm probably being too vague. What I'm referring to is I don't think anyone that designed the floats actually took into account if it would fit in MK. The reason I feel this is the different location than planned to store it, the redesign of main street holiday decorations, the removal of some viewing areas so it could safely operate in some tight spots and that all floats are classified for only their best and most experienced drivers to operate instead of a mix of sizes like others parades have.

I could be wrong in my thoughts, perhaps it was just another one part of the company didn't talk to another and the giant float parade ended up in existence. So when I hear the mostly smaller PTN wouldn't be able to operate in mk, I would like more concrete information on why it wouldn't. again, it doesn't mean I think it's coming, just curious why people think it wouldn't be able to be there.

If they didn't take into account how it would fit in MK they would have serious issues. You can't build a multi-million dollar parade without knowing the degree of the turns the floats have to make and the size of the streets and how close they can be to guests. That to me is just common sense.

I can't give you more concrete info because it simply doesn't exist to the public. Disney doesn't release float specifications nor do they have to.

It's a nice thought out list of complications of parade concerns and mk itself.. It's still just peoples thoughts. As rteetz says, the information needed isn't public and I can understand why someone that might know may not be able to say anything so it's all hypothetical from both sides. It is a topic that interests me and I am curious about the specifics of both mk, which 11290 nicely described some of it's challenges, and the parade floats which we can just speculate about unfortunately. I'll take my curiosity to some people that probably are in the know and explore it that direction. thanks for everyones time.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure 11290 works/has worked with parades in the MK.

It's just the thoughts of somebody who works parades in the Magic Kingdom. You are not likely to find better inside information here on the Disboards.

If you have better sources, honestly, I'm not even sure why you're asking here.

Maybe just because of how much I love PTN (the music is infectious and the float technology really cool)- but I would love if WDW got their own version of PTN ... so similar, and maybe a few same floats, but then some unique ones as well (a Zootopia float would be cool)

Whatever they do I hope it is top notch though ... even if that means waiting for the 50th for it

If what you're saying is that WDW could somehow logistically overcome the challenges, I doubt you're incorrect. Personally, even though I'm sure there are considerable challenges, this isn't simply a logistics issue imo. It's a budget cut.

And Anaheim has a lot more pull these days than of old. They've extricated themselves from Orlando management and had a wildly successful 2 years financially. All the while Orlando is paying down their magic tech. I think Anaheim fought for their parades, and had the financial goods to back themselves up.

I think everyone might be missing a point here.. I don't care if ptn comes, I'm not arguing that it could come. I've found myself very interested in the differences of parade routes and what would or couldn't work where and why. I was hoping someone had some more concrete info on why it wouldn't work in mk because nothing is really sticking out to me but some interesting info posted on the subject so I'm off to find more!

Huh? The discussion has evolved into PTN not going to MK. I added my opinion, on point and without regard to anyone's preferences. If you're only interested in the route challenges, that's fine. But don't be surprised if you find that isn't the only reason the parade stays in Anaheim. Or that posters add to the discussion, beyond the route.
