Are DVC folks still using the TIW cards? I see they are 150 now..

I am on the fence for our Oct. trip. We are going to be a mixed bag as far as adrs go. Right now it is 3 of us, possibly might just be 2 if hubby can't go. :( We are joining our son and his gf for a meal or two so then it will be worth it. I figure to break even we need to spend 750. We have a few adr's but nothing crazy. What are others thoughts on the TIW since it is now so much more. Thanks. :)

We are still using it - our trips are usually just the 2 of us and our pattern is 3 trips per AP/TiW year. Will be thinking long and hard about purchasing it again, though.

A 20% discount for Club Villian was offered when we were there in September, so now we are @ $158 saved. We bought it in July. I noted it's only good for 12 months, you don't get the extra time you used to. We have trips in December, January, March and May, so we are OK.

Still, it is not the bargain it once was, that's for sure.

I bought mine 8/1/2016 and it expires 9/30/2017.

If you eat $750 worth of food, (isn't that the number now?) you will break even. We plan our trips to get at least 2 vacations during the 13 months of use.

I just called the TIW number and was told it is valid for 1 year.

The last one we bought was in May and it expires end of June 2017, so as far as I am aware they are still good for the 13+ month period. Whenever you call them, they have always told you they are good for a year, so I assume nothing has changed. We still get it because we do exceed by a lot the $750 break even point over a year's time, as we go three times a year, and we have anywhere from 3 to 9 persons depending on trip.

What is the expiration date on the card? in the past, no mater when you purchased during a month, it was always good until the end of the next month a year later, e.g., purchase anytime in July and it would have an expiration date of August 31 a year later.

There are just two of us on our WDW trips. At $50 the TIW card was great. At $100 it was marginal. At $150 it doesn't work for us so we no longer have the card.

We've cut back on table service meals because without the TIW discount, those restaurants are not worth the price to us, particularly since some of our favorite places have disappointed us recently. For our next trip, for the first time ever we have not booked any ADRs. We'll eat at a few counter services places and fix some dinners in the room and see how it goes!

Bought on July 2 and it expires on July 2....but...
I just called again, and explained that I spoke to friends who had the different experience. This new CM told me that I probably had gotten a new CM originally who made a mistake. I will be receiving a new card with an expiration date of August 31, 2017!

Thank you Disboard folks, for helping me get what I should!!

We still use it, we travel with 9, sometimes 10 twice a year for 8 nights each trip. It pays for itself about 2/3 of the way through the first trip.

I'm at the tipping point.

We bought it in March this year. We had a 12 night trip, of which we had 1 TS per night 4 of them Signatures and we did save but not a fortune. Once we took DVC discount into account and black out days we were way over $1000 before we saved.

But worse we got really fed up of disney dining. We had 2 really memorable meals The Boathouse and the Wave, 2 poor meals at Jiko and Narcooses and the rest were just ok. We have decided next trip to do more offsite dining, more take out cook more in the room and only do 3 or 4 TS while at Disney so eating out feels like a treat than the chore it felt like last trip.

We tend to have a week long trip with 7-10 people, plus two trips of 3-5 people. It's worked out great for us. My card expires at the end of the month, so we might take a break before we get the next one.

I always thought that the break even point was always skewed in the past.

What I mean is this, If you factor in that at some/most of the places you eat at have a 10% ( DVC/AP ) discount already w/ no additional purchase, that would push the break even point even higher, Right?

I realize you're not able to use it at all TS, & also doesn't include alcohol, but without paying the extra $150 , there still can be some savings to be had.:confused3

With all that said, We are heading down in Nov. for Jersey week, and are probably upgrading to an AP, so we might bite the bullet and buy it as well...I still have to crunch some #'s though..

It is so hard to decide. WE do not eat a TS meal every single day of trip, but several days for sure. We also don't eat at a lot of the buffets anymore or the fancier ones I should say. We have a few faves but DISNEY DINING IS NOT LIKE IT USED TO BE that is for sure. We used to do a ton of the character meals and buffets but it is a hard pill to swallow for some of those prices for for what you actually get. We don't go to Disney for dining...it is not our priority but we do enjoy a few faves.
