Ate at BOG today for lunch. Was NOT able to sub anything for a drink. Was only able to sub French onion soup for dessert. We had issues with our pre order and asked the drink sub to both the cashier and manager when he had to come over to assist with the issue. He said u can not sub soup for drink because the cost discepancy.

This makes no sense. " was NOT able to sub anything". " Was only able to sub French Onion Soup for a drink". Which is the case??

Which was it?

Are you able to substitute anything for your drink?

Are you able to substitute anything for your dessert? (irrelevant after 2016)

If they said the drink could not be exchanged .... I understand that, not exactly equal values there.

Soup $6.49 - Drink $3.29 so basically soup is double the cost of a drink.

Soup used to be about $3.99 when they opened and clearly snack price range.
I wonder now if we will see the loss of some snacks since their price has climbed so high.
Even the cupcakes there doubled in price since it opened.
Which I can certainly see being able to swap for soup.

I really hope you come back and clarify as your original post was pretty confusing.

So you could not sub anything?

Or was it that you could not replace a soup with a drink or a drink with a soup?

I would think the price difference would only be a problem if you wanted to sub your drink for a soup because obviously the soup costs more.

I imagine it was a typo - should have said "couldn't" sub soup for a drink. I am not surprised based on cost and the fact that anyone can go up and get a cup and a drink so a dishonest person could have both the soup and a drink.

I would love to hear if anyone else has been able to make this substitution. We drink ice water and would love to get soup for the drink. I realize that it is a big price jump between the two items, but I was under the impression that QS meals could sub out the drink for a 'snack credit/ side item' and you can use a snack credit for the soup, thus I thought this substitution could happen. Or perhaps is this a case of it happens 'sometimes'? I am going to BOG for lunch on August 30th, so I'd love to hear from others. I will try to do this and report back (if I remember:cutie:) to let you know what happens when we go to BOG.

This substitution is written into the brochure. I would definitely take this up with more than a manager if they say it can't be done whether it is because of the price difference or something else. BoG is a Disney owned restaurant. They set the prices. They set what is a snack credit. They wrote this substitution into the brochure. There's no reason this shouldn't be able to be done.

Pretty sure soup isn't a snack credit. I do know that you can substitute either potato leek or French onion soup for dessert, which I have done using the dining plan. If you do the pre-order, you can make the exchange right then and there, soup is listed in both the appetizer and dessert categories.

As @sharonabe noted, this is written into the DDP brochure, so I'm not sure how it is debatable by the manager unless there is no snack logo next to the soups anymore? The BOG lunch menu available on all ears (though only as of Jan 2016) still have the purple snack logo next to the soups, and the brochure clearly states any non-alcoholic beverage can be subbed for anything with a snack logo; this begs the question as to whether the purple snack logo is still there on the menu this month. Would be super helpful if anyone else who is there or has been recently can confirm! :)

Yes now that you mentioned it I do recall seeing that when I preordered for my upcoming trip.

Unless something has changed since May 2015, soup is a snack credit.

If it wasn't a snack credit, you wouldn't be able to sub the dessert entitlement for it, and it wouldn't be listed in the dessert section.

Ok, but now the onion soup is something like $6.49, are they really going to let you get it rather than the $3.29 drink? Seems unlikely, but what the heck, if they let you do it, that's good.
