Yes, the music is terrific! Zip-A-Dee-Do-Dah is a contender for "the" quintessential Disney song. :earsboy:

Agree and this perhaps explains why I hear that song as the "hold" music every single time I call DVC MS. I'm often left wondering how many of the other DVCers who are hearing while on hold it have no idea exactly what it is/where it is from but -- as you put it -- park it in their mind as something old and yes, quintessentially Disney.

Yikes! I would think most DVC members would know its origins, or at least that it's from Splash Mountain.

I just have joined the DMClub. What titles are most desired in a collection?

OK, I have the best memories of Song of the South--in a time when my family did not go to the movies at all, my mother promised to take me to see it in the theater when my father went on a business trip. It was such a special night, and I loved Zip-A-Dee-Do-Dah, sang it for weeks after and probably drove my mom crazy.

So I looked forward to sharing it with my DD and felt badly when I found out it wasn't coming out of the vault. Not sure I'd want it badly enough to follow alternative routes--the childhood me isn't always to be trusted in matters of taste--but following this thread lets me know I'm not alone in liking it.

I personally would like to see more Wonderful World of Disney episodes out there. Heck I would love to download them. TCM has been a great source for me. I tried to collect them when they were releasing them on Disney Treasures. The one with the Osmunds when the Haunted mansion opened and some of the Lets go on a tour of Disneyland. Also Bea Arthur and Betty White celebrating a brithday of Disney World. I would pay to own these. Some of them haven't aged as well. Still would like to have them,

Also may I throw in a request for the Original Mickey Mouse Club including the rest of Spin and Marty. I watched them as a kid in syndiction and would love to have them. They released some of the episodes of these on Disney Treasures DVD but not enough of them.

We have a copy of Song of the South and watched it with our kids not too long ago. They loved it! Now Splash Mountain has a whole new meaning for them!

I just scored a copy of "Child of Glass" off of Amazon and a copy of "Song of the South" from a vendor at my local county fair. A lot of the old classics are out there, you just have to be determined and willing to do the research.

IMDB has a number of the individual titles listed and can help with providing names of individual episodes. That'll help.

I wouldn't count on that...they've rather sterilized the ride from virtually any relationship with "the movie" in recent years, so most of gen-x and younger have no clue what the stories are about.

We just returned from DLR and rode Splash Mountain there a couple of times after not being on it for years...unfortunately, Zip is relegated to a small portion at the end of the ride. Not sure whether they've reworked the songs in the WDW ride (was closed for "refurbishment" last time we were there), but the DLR ride doesn't include any of the other music from the film in the first 2/3's of the ride (before the fall). Up until that point, all the music has been replaced by a continual repetition of a "Everyone Come Along, Get Along" tune that I don't remember from the movie, and rather backhandedly mocks the supporters of the original movie. I, for one, would be the first in line to get a copy of a re-released if not for fear of what the PC police has done with it.

Shame on Disney and TCM for getting our hopes up, they have had very few, 3?, nights of programming since they announced they would be teaming up. I believe there is one coming up at the end of this month, I think the 28th. These nights are too few and offer very little programming. Disney has their own channel, more than one, surely they could devote one to "classic" Disney, including stuff Walt himself did. Come on Disney, give us what we really want, or at the very least, give us the opportunity to buy back our childhood memories.

The whole "vault" thing is seriously outmoded. In a world with Amazon/Ebay/torrenting, Disney is losing money by not making everything available. If a particular piece doesn't warrant a physical release, they should be selling it via download.

Couldn't agree more. In this day and age, the vault is antiquated. You can simply go to eBay or Amazon, or less reputable sites and obtain the movies you want.
Certainly not easier than heading over to Wal-mart or Target to pick them up new, but Disney is losing money every time one of their DVDs is re-sold used.

It's actually more expensive than you might think to do re-releases (digital or otherwise). The older material generally requires some level of restoration and simply may not get enough sales to justify it. Which is why you mostly see the animated classics and may never see Condorman. Yes they could release unrestored versions (though even those would probably have to be digitized) but then they'd be heavily criticized for releasing something in poor quality.

Song of the South is a special case. There probably is enough demand for it, but it's an uncomfortable area for Disney and one they'd just rather avoid.

Why does Disney release some to the UK market and not in the US as well? I ordered both beauty and the beast and Aladdin blu-ray off amazon UK for only 20 bucks each.
Do the European copies work OK for you? I've heard that some of them are coded for different regions and may not work on US DVD Players.

I think you'll find that the imported dvds on Amazon will note U.S. compatibility in the details, and most of them seem to be ok for U.S. players.
