Canadian Dollar is going to cancel our trip.

I have a Free Dining Bounce Back booked for September at Pop Century, booked during our Sept 2015 stay. The offer included included the Quick Service dining plan and I upgraded to the Disney Dining Plan. This is the 5th year in a row that we're going in September booked via a FD BB the previous year and always staying at Pop even though it's not been advertised as an option.

I should have gone last year... Never got a BB from when we stayed in 2014

Looking into staying at CBR actually originally was gonna be All star Sp but might like the space more since it was very tight with 4 adults last time

This is us, too, but here it's DW who says it's a no-go for this and next year. You know, I just don't know...we know too many people at our age (late 50s) who were waiting to go somewhere or do something and they never got the chance, for many different reasons. Some were health related (or the passing of a family member) so I'm beginning to feel that since DW and I are healthy and if we can go without sacrificing anything important in our lives, we should just go anyway, we can economize easily enough. We always have such a good time. She has a really stressful job and I think she needs a week away in a warm place during the winter just to stay sane.

I'm thinking of POP instead of our usual moderate resort, too. We usually get "free" dining in the fall but I'm coming to think it's a bit of a money waster with the mandatory tipping for TS meals. We can easily cut back to a few TS meals and stick with CS the rest of the time. We've found that carefully choosing a CS meal can easily feed the two of us comfortably. Ordering a bunch of healthy and portable snacks from GG would save a bit more, too. Lots of things to consider, for sure.

We booked ASSP on a BB with free quick service, they did not have anything but Royal at Port Orleans when we booked, so we figured we would probably just upgrade to the regular DDP, now with the exchange, I am thinking stick with the QS and save the extra $ and the tips.

I am booked for 2 weeks in July at Port Orleans Riverside. I have also considered cancelling because of the dollar. I have a 2 week timeshare in Mexico that I pay maintenance fees on in US dollars. I also have a son who attends university in the US....so the low Canadian dollar is very painful to me.
I try not to dwell too much on it but I am watching it very, very closely.

I so much agree with you. I have been travelling for so many years to Disneyland, Disneyworld with a couple of Disney Cruises as much as I could afford with my daughter since she was 5 years old (she's now 23). I have never regretted the many trips we have been on and now that she is older and working full time, I still travel on my own mostly to Disney - which I really enjoy. I always felt sad for those people who kept talking about going and doing trips with their children or planning to go in the future and not being able to achieve it because of circumstances. You just cannot get that time back. I always travel on a budget and stay in the least expensive accommodations, but I always have enjoyed my trips. But I realize my kind of travel does not work for everyone.

However, I will always have those memories and plan on getting more.

We're doing 2 weeks disneyland/Carlsbad in December. Thanks to westjet dollars and our timeshare we're able to make it work!

I'm finding lots of ways to bring the costs down as much as possible (couponing, USD bank account, Airmiles, bringing food, buying items before we leave) to make it possible! This will be our Christmas gift with all our extended family so I also get to skip gifts this year!

Even with all this though... It's going to be an $8000 hit CDN. Ouch!

Well we just cancelled the Universal leg of our trip in September, it's cheaper to just stay at Disney for the 3 extra days, especially if we can score Free Dining.

You should look at air transat hotel for you universal...I scored a great deal on hotel and it works out to less then par.

Unfortunately I booked too early for this deal. I already had booked Cabana Bay with my TA. The cost to cancel was more than the savings. It's a great deal.

Just wanted to add that this thread was created on Jan 20th when the dollar was at .69 - it has had a good run since then (knocking on all kinds of timber!) and is now at the same level it was back mid December. So we are considering paying for our hotel in advance as I have a sneaky feeling the dollar is likely going to do more ups and downs and who knows where it might be when we actually find ourselves checking out! I know a lot of packages have to be paid for in advance anyway but if there is a time to pay now might be a better one, especially if you have a no exchange fee credit card! Here's hoping things get better or at least they don't get much worse!

My problem with all this is I want to do my vacation how I LIKE to do my vacation -- deluxe resort/ club level/dining plan and park hopper tickets.... I am not willing to downgrade any of that to value/mod resort, giving up club level, buying snacks for my room and bringing in my own food for the park, to me that's not a vacation! I guess I will just have to suck it up and pay the extra to do it how I enjoy it. Might mean longer between trips, but I am not willing to compromise on the things that I enjoy and that make my trip amazing for me :) My next trip will be a cruise on the Fantasy in 2017 (still planning on concierge as that's how I like to cruise), and only doing a week at Disney after the cruise this time instead of both Disney and Universal. It'll still be pricey, but I'm saving for 2 yrs for it so I hope to make it doable, maybe the $ will have gone back up a little by then. Even a .83 dollar would make me feel better :)

This probably isn't the best time to do so, but if you like to always stay in a deluxe have you considered buying DVC? We have found it has saved us a ton of money from when we used to stay at moderates.

geergirl, how many of you are going and what level of resort are you staying at. I'm trying to figure out if this would be a possibility for me and a friend this coming December. The only way airmiles will tell you anything is if you call and ask and I'm not quite at that stage yet.

I just noticed this so sorry for the late reply. We got back yesterday! Four of us (two adults and two 4 year olds) went. We stayed at the Courtyard Theme Park Entrance in a room with two queens and a set of bunk beds. The hotel is on S Harbor just behind Mimi's. It was an easy walk to the gates for us and the kids loved the waterpark. Depending on price we would certainly stay there again.

My 29,000 and change airmiles equated to somewhere around $4200CAD towards a WestJet Vacations package. We had to pay the taxes and fees ($800 and some) and anything extra over that 4200 with a credit card at the time of booking. You do earn airmiles on the overage but not the taxes and fees. We had the flights from YEG to SNA, hotel from Friday to Saturday, 5 day park hoppers, and a character breakfast as part of the package.

That's great info thanks. Hope you had a great time/weather was good. I've got some more airmiles shopping to do if I'm going to do this.:thanks:

Unfortunately it was the tickets and the meals that made it so much more expensive. We're hoping to get free dining and adding extra days to our Disney tickets is $10 per day each whereas getting Universal tickets is $500 USD just for one day (for the 3 of us). I'm sad about missing Harry Potter but we'll have a lot more time to enjoy Disney this way so it's not a total loss.

It's so disappointing to think that many fellow Canadians have cancelled or are thinking of cancelling. I've booked a cruise a while back and I regret not having paid it in full back then because *silly me* thought the CAD dollar would be going up. :( Thankfully we had points for our airfare.

I keep checking the online promotions hoping to have one for Canucks with the dollar at par. Keeping my fingers crossed!:genie:

I haven't booked my cruise yet, but I have a place holder from our last cruise and I am looking at Fall 2017 dates to be released. DH and I fell in love with Cruising on the Fantasy, and there's no way I'm cancelling my cruise... .we are still going to book it and hope for the best. If it costs us 40% more, I guess that's just the cost of travel i'll have to live with :) but I am determined to use my placeholder/ On Board credit and my 10% discount and book that cruise!
