The Running Thread - 2016

Happy Mardi Gras to everyone. I know the QOTD have not been focused on running the last few days, so I apologize about that. I will get back to the running questions soon.

QOTD: What is something very unique to where you live that is not common in other parts of the country?

ATTQOTD: The food! Just a few items from where I grew up are boudin, cracklins, and crawfish. There is a reason Louisiana is overweight...

We don't have much that is unique that I can think of. We were the snowiest large (100k +) city in the country last year with 119+ inches. But, after giving the question some thought I recalled the smiley face was invented here:) Learned that when I chaperoned my sons 3rd grade field trip to the historical museum last year.

ATTQOTD: I live in Grand Rapids which has recently been named Beer City USA. We have so many micro-breweries it's hard to keep track of them all, but I try! My current favorite beer is Founders All Day IPA. In the past, my beer drinking has gotten in the way of my running and vice versa, but I think I've finally found a healthy balance! :)

Mmmmmmm ... Founders. A Breakfast Stout would be delicious right now!

ATTQOTD: My town has a very large, four day street festival, every October, that celebrates all things pumpkin. If it's a carnival food, we can make it with pumpkin--pumpkin burgers, pumpkin chili, pumpkin pancakes, pumpkin waffles, pumpkin fudge, pumpkin dumplings, pumpkin ice cream, etc.

We also grow large pumpkins...like 1900+ pound ones!

And, yes, there is a 5 mile race with the prizes being pumpkin pies, pumpkin donuts and pumpkin fudge!

Love Grand Rapids in the summer. I am there a few times/year on business. Wouldn't want to deal with your winters.

Michigan for me means Motown, lakes (more than 10,000 I am told) and food (the more meat and cheese the better, especially if it has extra cheese). Specific to Michigan is probably the pastie. Also people take their college sports serious here. You bleed green (Michigan State) or blue (University of Michigan). My neighbors fly a "house divided" flag with one half green and one half blue. During the annual MSU-U of M game on campus it is not uncommon for a student choosing the wrong color to wear to get booed out of class! As an alum of MSU it is clear to me that the proper color would be Green of coarse.

Come on, you have much more:
Warren Buffet
College World Series
Strategic Air Command (SAC)
Highest per capita of red cars/trucks
Well, yes.. yes we do! I forget those are unique...maybe not the red cars, well unless they have a HUSKER decal somewhere than yep that's probably true too, we area a little obsessed with football, as in drama every.single.season! So I guess that makes us unique, loose a lot of a games in the last few seconds....

I assume Omaha steaks is from Omaha too right?
oh yeah that's true too, but I don't eat meat so always forget that.
Guess we have more than I thought...ooops, but it is fun to just say "OMAHA"

Let's see 10 theme parks/destinations, 2 large bodies of water and more tourists than you could ever want within an hours drive... Welcome to central Florida!

Where I grew up? Easily one of the more gorgeous states with amazing national parks & mountains.. A very distinct religious culture (for better or worse) and fry sauce, funeral potatoes, jello and cafe rio...welcome to Utah!

Todays QOTD is more popular than I thought it would be. The answers are great!

Otis Redding (singer) died in a plane crash into Lake Monona on the way to a concert in Madison, WI in 1967. His song "(Sittin' on) The Dock of the Bay" was recorded a few days before his death and post-death became his 1st Billboard Number One Hit.

I enjoy his music very much.

Guess I need to find a marathon around that time of year and make a trip for the beer! Craft Brews!!! All Day IPA is one of my game day go to beers!

ATTQOTD: "OMAHA" - Peyton Manning - yep I think that's all we've got!

Omaha, LSU baseballs second home. Our fans travel well when we make it there, and some make the trip even when we don't. One day I will make the trip for the CWS.

And you would be mistaken. Everyone knows the proper color is blue, maize & blue to be precise.

Nothing like college sports to get people good and fired up. GEAUX TIGERS!
