From Disneycruiseline blog...The Disney Fantasy is having mechanical difficulties...port engine not operational.
They are steaming directly from their last port to Port Canaveral and skipping Castaway Cay tomorrow.
Passengers getting 20% off future cruise + $200 OB credit.
One thing that seems to be consistent with cruise ships is the crews and passingers never learn to put things away and tie them down as needed.
Saves alot of pick up after the storm

So did DCL (or anybody else) ever announce what the problem was and what was done to fix it? We're sailing on the Fantasy next month and I'm curious if the issue was truly fixed or if some sort of intermediate measure was taken and future repairs are planned.
Do you think they will be offered a $200 per room credit and %20 their next cruise???

Wow. Full refund plus 50% off future cruise for royal passengers, and it wasn't mechanical. That's customer service. Disney needs to take some lessons from their competitor.
But the cruise was cut short and they are returning to the home port early. That's a big difference from the Fantasy which completed the 7 day cruise, only missed one port, and had a nice day at sea versus having guests stuck in their staterooms for 8 hours without food.Wow. Yes there is a huge difference, but it was weather related, and they did not try to nickel and dime them with the compensation. They are giving them fifty percent off a future cruise- in addition to the full refund. I pay the dcl premium because I expect their ships to work (at a minimum!!). What if the fantasy had been in that storm without that motor or whatever it was? Disney is taking their customers for granted. Offering 20% that is not really 20% off once you think about the fine print and is subject to block out dates and only good for 24 months is offensive. Royal also is crediting to customers not by room. I am aware that people have other opinions on this. But I would not have walked off that ship feeling great about Disney as a company. I would walk off the Royal Caribbean ship feeling like Royal really valued me as a customer, really respected what little vacation time I have. There is a huge difference between what happened on the Fantasy and on the Anthem.

OK..........other reports said other things. In fact I think, one post on this thread as well. I was not there. It really isn't a issue in any case.
As I said she may have been going faster and slower a needed.

As I said, I know people have different opinions on this, but disney was even more liable because it was mechanical, not less (and yes I know you sign your life away in the contract so I know disney doesnt ever owe anyone anything). But as I said, I expect more from Disney, not less, because I am paying a premium. And the end result for me personally would have been a negative view of Dcl.The issue on the Fantasy wasn't weather related it was mechanical. The passengers missed one port, not the cruise, and were never in any danger. The Anthem's cruise was just getting started so they will miss everything. It only makes sense that the compensation package is vastly different.
And for those who don't know, every line has this same type of contract. Nobody can guarantee the weather, political unrest at ports, medical emergencies, etc. It is because of that that we book not only based on itinerary, but also with the thought that we could have a good time if we ended up just being stuck on the ship the whole time.In case anyone's interested - this is from the cruise contract that you agree to when you book a cruise (fairly standard across the lines):
RIGHT TO CHANGE ITINERARY/DETENTION
Disney Cruise Line may in its sole discretion and without prior notice change, substitute, postpone, cancel or deviate from any scheduled sailing, itinerary or call at any port, and may substitute another vessel for the ship, and shall not be liable for any loss or damage incurred by a Guest as a result of any such change, substitution, postponement, cancellation or deviation. The Guest shall pay any and all expenses incurred if a Guest is detained on board ship or elsewhere at any stage of a voyage because of quarantine, port regulations, prevailing applicable law, illness or other cause.

I am well aware that Disney has very good lawyers. But we are talking about doing what's right and making people whole for an adverised vacation experience. Royal took the high road. Mickey did not. And Royal did not cause the weather. DCL is responsible for the engine maintenance of its ships. In case anyone's interested - this is from the cruise contract that you agree to when you book a cruise (fairly standard across the lines):
