Official 2016 5th Anniversary Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend!

Finally home from DW and my W&D adventure. Now I need some new running tights and yak trax for outside winter training.

Speaking of yak trax, is there a particular model you buy for snow running? I figure that will give me an excellent workout this winter, plus maybe I will still be able to use the rail trail; but don't know anything about YT other than the basic kind you buy for like $10-20

I'm going to be at a new holiday inn and suites they're building on Manchester. I think it opens in the next few weeks. I know it was an IHG property. Got it for a great rate.

Locals, this is an okay area for race morning, yes??

They make ones for running that are $40. I've done some research and those seem to be the ones that have gotten the best feedback so far. I'm just hoping winter isn't too bad this year. Last year we got dumped with feet of snow weekly through February. I can't do that again.

You'll have to take a shuttle/ART to get to the race start as well as for your return.

We were at the Fairfield on Harbor this week and as we headed back to the 5, we took Katella. The Holiday Inn is south of Katella and near the 5. Not within walking distance of the parks. Were you wanting to be close to the parks or race start?

You'll be fine if its the NEW Holiday inn they're still working on on Manchester. Address of 1411 S Manchester Ave. If you google maps the address you'll see that you're near the Quality Inn and Suites, also on Manchester. And you're very close to the Hojo's on Harbor. I've stayed at Hojo for Tink weekend and walked to the corrals just fine. Lots of others out there walking to the corrals with me. From Hojo it was a 20 minute walk in the morning (security check point to esplanade was still closed) and a 30 minute walk back after the race (security check point was open). The Holiday inn would only take you a couple more minutes as you'll pass Hojo when you turn on Manchester. In fact if I remember correctly the race should run right by your hotel around mile 11. And from your hotel you'll probably be about a 10-15 minute walk to the park gates. There is another Holiday inn on Manchester (1915 S Manchester) and that one is further away and would not be walking distance.

Has anyone noticed that they no longer have the sellout percentages on the runDisney page?
I noticed it for Tink first, but the percentages seem to not be there for all the race weekends. Interesting...

Not percentage related but I've heard a few radio spots and ad pop ups on my fb page for running w/ TNT for the races and I've never heard them advertise for rD events before up here before.

It is the brand new one at 1411 S Manchester. When I made the reservation, they were still in the final phases of construction. I think they open any day now (if not already) but the last time I called (some time in September) there was still not a working phone number to the front desk- or at least one that was manned. I wanted to call the hotel directly to see if I could get a better rate given that this is for the run and my status with IHG. Likely not, but anything beats not trying at all.

My goal was to be close to park gates as it'll also be my first time at DLR so I want to spend some time enjoying myself.

What training plan is everyone thinking about using? :)
I'm going to be doing Galloway. Perhaps not the run/walk method every time because many days I prefer to just run but I think the plan overall schedule and plan works well for me. Right now I'm doing one of the plans offered for free on runkeeper but I find four days a week every week is too much. I much prefer doing three days one week then four the next because that's pretty much running every other day.

10K training will be done with the Couch 2 10K app. It's the combination of Couch 2 5K and 5K to 10K programs - 18 weeks.

I've done Couch 2 5K before and found great success with it. Now I'm ready to break into 10K territory. After running the Avengers 5K this weekend I realized that I'm ready to upgrade to better running shirts and finisher medals.

I'm presently at a 14.5 minute mile and I'd like to get to around 12 mins for the race.

Right now I'm using the Galloway Rebel Challenge training plan for January. And I'm really happy that I'm following a good plan. But after SW I'm not sure what I'll do. I have a half (RnR SF) on April 2nd and then Tink Half on May 8. I'll probably look at the Galloway Tink plan and fool with it a bit to make it work for me.

I take Galloway and a program from a women's running mag and kind of blend them how I need them to go. One guides me on my intervals which I need or I'll be at a 1:1 forever. I really need to start pushing myself.

There is a great convo in the Dark Side thread about more advanced training and speed work.

So for me, I have Glass Slipper Challenge training, which starts the first week of December. I am using Hal Higdon's Novice 2 Half Marathon plan for that.

Once GSC is over then I am transitioning to marathon training. I have a local marathon on May 15 (the weekend after Tink weekend). For that I'm picking up Hal Higdon's Novice 1 Marathon plan (I think I'll pick it up at week 6), so Tink weekend will be my taper. :)

So that's 4 days each week of running - I used Galloway's plan for Dumbo, and while I did like it, I think I do better with 4 days of running. :confused3 Then I'm lifting 3 days each week and trying to get to yoga at least once each week...so I have 1 day each week that's lifting + running, and 1 day that is lifting + yoga. 1 rest day. :)

I make up my own plans for everything, which seems kinda crazy for someone who has only been running for a little over a year, but the way I see it ... I know myself, my schedule, and my potential better than anyone else. When I do need guidance, I consult the runDisney Galloway plans, mostly because they're the only ones I've found that are 3 days a week, and that's what works for me (I can't even think about running 4 days a week...).

I think that one of the great things about being a runner in the modern world is that we have access to so many different plans and resources, so everyone can find something that helps them.

I totally agree! Just trying to generate some discussion. :)

A little late in posting this, but we are officially inside the 6-month mark! :yay:

Yay! 6 months!!

I doing the Big Sur 21 miler (didn't get into the full ) a few weeks before Tink so I'll be doing that plan. I really want to not only PR Tink, but run the entire thing w/ no interval walk breaks so we'll see how that goes. I start back up running and the gym again tomorrow; took 2 weeks off after New York. Back to reality now. :goodvibes

I have a half (RnR SF) on April 2nd and then Tink Half on May 8.

I signed up for that one too! We'll have to try and do a meet up so we can finally meet each other! :rotfl2:

YES! I figure we have 3 chances in 2016...SW, Tink and now RnR :)
