Everthing you wanted to know about Uber/Lyft at WDW

Are Uber or Lyft possible to download onto a good regular cell phone that can connect to the internet (not a smartphone)? Would like to know. I don't see anything on my main menu saying apps but could it be possible? If so, would it have to be online all the time or could I just connect when wanting a ride?

We're going to try uber and lyft this trip for the first time, I'm kind of excited as I've never felt comfortable in traditional taxis. And we're going to attempt the hotel shuttle method for an uber pickup from airport instead of the shared shuttle that I had planned on. After doing a bit more research online it sounds like this is a common method people use at airports across the country that have this type of policy so I feel less nervous now. I'm thinking the extra step of hotel shuttle will be worth the direct trip to our hotel while not being crammed in next to strangers- I'll get enough of that on my flight lol! Thanks for all the info here.

I'm pretty sure you would need a smartphone - you need to be able to download the app from Google Play or the App Store. There is no ability to request an Uber from the website, unfortunately.

What is the latest on Uber at Food and Wine for pickup and dropoff? The first post in this thread says one should use boardwalk inn as pickup and dropoff point, but other posts seem to indicate you have to have an ADR to get past the guard (is there a difference between the boardwalk and the boardwalk inn drop-off?)

Great Question!

Pickup and drop off remain the same as always. Youll end up in either Amaze or Journey in the parking lot right near the front.

For pickups only, the Boardwalk is a great option to end your evening. Theres alot to do over there and you can get a car from the Inn im about a minute (the front of Epcot takes awhile for cars to get around to)

I'm planning a tour of the Reedy Creek FD on our August 2016 trip. Could we use Uber and go from the Poly to Reedy Creek? :firefight

Coming back from Universal , Is it easier to be dropped off at Downtown Disney or Epcot? I've read Downtown Disney is still a mess but that it's closer. We will be on the dining plan and want to grab dinner.

Yes, Downtown Disney/Disney Springs is closer to Universal than Epcot. It is easier to be dropped off there now than before because the I-4 exit ramp is open. People driving there via I-4 don't have to deal with the traffic they used to deal with. Plus, you don't have to drive through parking toll plazas to get to Disney Springs. :)

Hi there, I tried reading all the previous comments so forgive me if I'm asking repetitive questions:

1. I noticed you listed pick up locations at Disney and Universal but I was wondering if you can tell me about pick ups and drop offs at SeaWorld? Can you get right to the front of the parking lot? Will Uber pick me up?

2. My resort is only about a mile and a half away from the park. It's that too short?

3. I live in a suburban area so I only see about two or three cars around at one time. About how many Ubers do you think are around at one time?

And on another note, I was thinking about starting a thread where people can list their Uber fares as well as where they traveled to and from, so people can get an idea of what they might be paying in similar situations. Would anyone be interested in that? Is that allowed in the forums?

1. An Uber driver can definitely pick up and drop off at SeaWorld. They will do this at the taxi/bus pick up & drop off area. It's also where the I-Drive trolley and the Aquatica & Discovery Cove shuttles do pick ups and drop offs.
2. It is not too short. The Uber driver won't get a big fare, but they can certainly do this trip.
3. The way you can check to see if Uber drivers are around is to go to the app and search for a pick up location. You'll see the cars circling around the area. The number of Uber drivers around at a particular location varies.

I am not sure if that would be allowed or not. The Uber app can tell you what the fare estimate would be from pick up to drop off as well.

Hope this helps! :)

Thanks so much! This was the exact information that I was looking for. We will head to Wolfgang Puck express then!

Reporting back that we used Uber several times on our trip 10/15-10/20:

-10/15 BVP to Hollywood Studios and Hollywood Studios to BVP was pretty painless
-10/16 BVP to TTC worked out well for an 8:00am BOG reservation
-10/17 BVP to Epcot was great, Epcot to BVP was fine once we located our driver (he was turned away from the pickup lot)
-10/19 We got hit with surge pricing on the way back to BVP from Animal Kingdom (5:00pm on a Monday) after getting a notification that surge pricing was no longer in effect so that was a bummer. But our ride was great.

Thanks everyone for all of your tips!

We used it 4 times on our trip last week too.
We had mixed results.

Trip 1 - BC to AK - driver came quickly to the resort, he misread our destination, started for MK, had to turn around at MK gates and then head the right way. He admitted it was the 2nd time that day he'd done the same thing. He said he'd been driving for a while. At least he did know his way around very well
Trip 2 - wanted to go from AK to AKL Kidani, requested ride, showed 10 min approx arrival. Watched driver turn in circles, not moving at all for 5 min. Finally got going towards us and 30 min later, she still had not made it to the park. No clue what she was doing or where she was at (I think she went to AKL but didn't admit it). We could watch the car go back and forth down the same section of road over and over. She called and we explained where we were (same place as driver dropped us on our arrival to AK) and she said ok and we watched the car turn to head the wrong direction. Had to cancel the ride as we were already 15 min late for our reservation. We walked over and took traditional cab instead
Trip 3 - AKL Kidani to BC - got a brand new driver. We were his very first fare ever. It was ok. He got a bit mixed up picking us up, he went to Jambo house first but he figured it out fast enough.
Trip 4 - BC to MCO - this one went ok. The driver went to YC first but he sent a text and when we told him he was at YC instead of BC he figured out where he went wrong. trip to the airport went great.

I reported the issues with the driver and the delays we had with the pick up on trip 2. Not for any reason other than someone needs to stress to the drivers to read the locations of pick up and drop off better. I realize Disney is very complicated to drive around. And I realize the guests probably are not always clear on where they are being picked up from. But don't make it extra complicated by not reading clearly on where the request is coming from. I wish there was some way the drivers had instructions on where pick up was for each park/resort. When we set our pickup location we entered the specific resort name in the app, not just letting it go by where we were standing when we selected the pick up. For BC we entered Disney's Beach Club Resort. For AKL I entered Animal Kingdom Lodge - Kidani Village. For the park we entered Disney's Animal Kingdom. Somehow they need to communicate to the drivers when they have a pick up at Animal Kingdom where they are supposed to go. Then the driver can tell the guest exactly where they'll be arriving.

And something random that came to me while waiting for our first pick up, why doesn't Uber include in the car description the color of the car picking you up? That would make it much easier to watch for your driver

Just got back from LA/Disneyland and used Uber the entire trip. Saved about $50 over renting a car. Stayed at LAX, uberX'ed to Anaheim as well as LA. With the rental, parking at hotel, we saved money. Would highly recommend using Uber!

This thread is great-thanks for starting it! but now it's so long I can't possibly read the entire thing....:rotfl2: so here's my question- would we be able to use Uber from the Dolphin to the airport? We are going to need a ride, and I would like to try it out vs. the shuttle we booked last time....

We took Uber from BC to MCO so sure, you could take one from Dolphin to MCO

Rob, thank you very much for all the wonderful info. But I would like to know if I can travel with my two kids (4 and 2) using uber to and from airport, parks, etc during our stay. We originally had plans on renting a car, but then seeing that Uber is super convenient, quick and awesome, we would prefer to use this service. Kindly confirm if this is possible?

Thanks so much!

Yup, @hsmamato2 - as AngiTN said, you can take an Uber from the Dolphin to MCO. :)

You can absolutely do that - except for when traveling from MCO (going to MCO is fine). :) However, if any passengers require a car seat, you would need to provide one, as Uber drivers do not provide them.
