Skipper Canteen (Jungle Cruise themed restaurant) updates and ADR watch

With the new Jungle Book movie coming out in April, I would not be surprised to see characters from that at the restaurant.

I could definitely see this too! Although, atm, the movie trailer scares my little ones. Hopefully, the movie itself is not scary!

This place looks like so much fun! I'm thinking one room could be a take on the old Adventurer's Club at night! Or I could see them doing special after hours Adventurers Club parties there, like they are doing at AK! I just missed seeing AC by a couple of months when it closed down - I would definitely like to see that - and more boy type character venues for sure! There will be a new Pirates movie coming also, so adding Captain Jack sounds like a great move!

According to the Disney Parks Blog, it's Jungle Navigation Co., Ltd. Skipper Canteen.

Canteen, not Cantina.

Skipper, not Skipper's.

But here on DIS, it seems that people want to call it Skipper's Cantina.

Sounds good to me. I think a RustyScupper commemorative restaurant is certainly in order. I figure they can give us food grades for each menu item direct on the menu just to save our taste buds some time ; )

You've lost me on this. What is confusing? Canteen is a fairly common term when referring to a restaurant, bar, etc. I think a lot of us keep saying "cantina" because of the Star Wars Mos Eisley Cantina (a version of which is scheduled to go into DHS as part of the refurb).

The official name per the announcement is Jungle Navigation Co., Ltd. Skipper Canteen. What would you like them to change it to that would be more creative? People started to post about it long before anyone knew what the name officially was going to be which is why there have been so man different spellings out there. Maybe we should just start calling it Jungle Navigation Co. Who knows what it's going to be listed as under Disney Dining? I can assure you whatever they do it will get mangled on these message boards, ie Tucker House, Be My Guest, etc.

Skipper Canteen doesn't flow very well. I will likely have to constantly stop myself from saying Skipper's Canteen. Or Scupper's as the case may be.

I agree. I've seen different versions of it as well and keep mixing it up myself. i don't know why, but it's not a name that just rolls off the tongue. My sister keeps calling it Skipper Jack's, lol! I have no idea where she got Jack from. She knows it's not right, but keeps calling it that because she can't remember the real name.

. . . the total rehab WILL NOT be done on time (11/20/2105)
. . . but, there will be enough finished to open about 1-week ahead of time (approx 11/15/2105)

. . . SERVERS and other staff have been told to be available - they have been deployed elsewhere
. . . no dates for when ADR's can be called-up and set
. . . it is possible that ADR may open as late as 1-2 weeks ahead of opening date
. . . no info as to when the companion eatery, Skipper Canteen will open (they share the same kitchen)

NOTE: This is NOT an official announcement. This info came from SERVERS who were in a follow-up meeting with managers. The work schedules for CM's come out basically two weeks in advance, so we will know more as the dates approach. Once we see the CM's scheduled, we know things are happening for real.

People also talk about "Bippity Boppity Boutique." It's not really a flaw with Disney's naming, it's just people being sloppy with the details. (Which isn't really a big deal to me, but it is on the end user, not Disney.)

Talking to a "seasoned" CM on Friday who said he works at the Jungle Cruise and will be working in the restaurant. He said they were told they would "have their occupancy on November 8th to begin getting ready to open and for sure would be open by December." Occupancy for the 8th would give them a week before Mr. Scupper's date to open, makes sense.

I said from the outside it looks like it's got a ways to go as you can see framing with no sheet rock, add to finishing the decorating it seems a stretch but hey, a lot can happen in a month. He said there is lots more done than it seems - I guess what you can really see is new construction, they could have the existing space already finished.

My experience watching my house be rebuilt after a fire was that once you get to sheet rock it goes really fast. I imagine Disney has this down to a science.
